There's Still Much To Play For This Season

We started yesterday’s post with a comment by Tommy Tuberville on the trouble the team was having putting the LSU loss behind them. You can certainly understand it taking an extra day or so to get past that one.
By now it’s a safe bet that Tuberville has gotten his team over the hump. A couple of physical, hard hitting practices have a way of moving kids on.
As fans, we should do the same – minus the hard hitting.
I believe all fans have struggled some this week with the loss. You can woulda, coulda, shoulda yourself to death. The second ESPN shows highlights from Saturday, I change the channel. I can’t bring myself to watch.
But we don’t play the game; the players do. They’ve moved on and we should follow suit.
It’s hard to believe after all Auburn has been through, this team has a reasonable chance of winning 10 games this season. We all would have been ecstatic in August if someone had told us the Tigers would win two out of three against Florida, Arkansas and LSU.
The heartburn lies in what took place in September, not now. With that said, Auburn people should be excited about the next five weeks.
An Auburn win over Ole Miss will likely turn the heat up more on Rebels coach Ed Orgeron. Another coaching change in Oxford can pay huge dividends down the road for Auburn in the SEC West.
The Tigers have already contributed to the demise of Houston Nutt at Arkansas. He likely will not return for another season in Fayetteville. Again, that does nothing but help Auburn.
It goes without saying that Amen Corner means everything for the Tigers. Not only are bragging rights on the line, the games means everything for recruiting.
Georgia is a team that’s once again struggling. Mark Richt was able to right the ship last year with a win at Auburn. It’s important that it not happen again. How sweet will it be to go to Athens and win?
And what about Alabama? It’s amazing how a win over a pretty bad Tennessee team can energize the media in the state. Give Bama credit, they played an excellent game Saturday.
But despite what Paul Finebaum and the other Tide lackey’s say, had Auburn faced Alabama on Saturday, the Tigers would have won by two touchdowns. This Alabama team is improved, but so is Auburn’s.
I don’t think last year’s Auburn team could handle this year’s group at this point in the season. Take September out of the mix and this team is one of the best in the last ten years. Auburn will show up to play at Amen Corner.
As fans, we need to make sure we are there with them. Holding up that sixth finger is something to look forward to in a year that’s been most unusual.

It's all about matchups.
.....And the one I worry about is that massive, shifty, vicious end Ole Miss has: Greg Hardy. That guy looks like Quentin Groves on growth hormones. Hopefully, our young guys can deal with him. Tyrone Green sure handled Dorsey, for the most part! They move Hardy around a LOT! Finding him, and scheming against him will be a must!
.....Bama's guy D. J. Hall is a problem. We've got no one who can stay with him. Heck, he was open a lot last year, and Wilson couldn't hit him deep. And Keith Brown is hard to cover, too. Fortunately, Brown drops a LOT of balls. If Wilson, Brown and Hall are on this year, we'll be in a lot of trouble on defense.
.....J. P. Wilson had a great game, and hit his receivers against Tennessee. LSU did it to us. You can roll up a huge score if that stuff is working. The onus is on the Muschamp defense to keep that from happening, Thanksgiving weekend. Same could be said for Stafford and the UGA Bulldogs. They pretty much tore our secondary up last year...
.....I've disparaged the talent on Bama's defense repeatedly this year, and they keep stopping folks. That worries me. The Bama defensive coaches have really worked a miracle. Oh, we SO much need Brandon Cox to be on, and guys to catch it. Billings will, that much is clear. Rod Smith can, but doesn't always. Dunn, Trott and Hawthorne need a winter, spring and summer with three hours a day of ball-cannon work.
.....I still say we should try Chris Slaughter in the slot on obvious passing downs. He might get broken in half over the middle, but we need to try him some in the next few games. We've GOT to catch that slant over the middle on third down. They've run the 5 yard hitch to Slaughter a few times, and he's brought every one in cleanly. Let him work.
.....I also hope, if we build a lead, that they let Kodi Burns try to run an actual offense. You know, one with more than two plays, and some actual passes. Past two games, when he comes in, he takes the shotgun snap, does the happy-feet dance for a second or two, then sprints out of bounds for no gain. Doesn't even hardly run the clock. That's a waste of a redshirt year, there. We could let Fannin do that. He was a high-school QB. At least we haven't had any turnovers out of Burns, the past two games, I suppose.
Yup Hardy's a beast....
and Carl Stewart had better be ready as well as the rest of the backs because he will be in our backfield. You can't stop him you can only slow him down.
As far as bama is concerned I don't put to much into their offense being as good as they looked against Tennessee. Two freshman corners and John Chavis' retro defense made them look better than they are. D.J. Hall is probably the best reciever in the SEC when they throw the ball his way.....but when he knows hes not the primary he goes into sloth mode(J.P. Wilson locks onto a target as bad I have ever seen...no reads past the back in the flat for a secondary). We will see what bama has next week on both sides of the ball. I also am wondering if "Less" Miles will coach himself out of a win (choke and run out of luck) against the bammers. I kinda got the feeling he will. I would take a Bama win over LSU to get us back in the SEC west picture.
UGA is Jekyll and Hyde and scares the hell out of me. Which team will show up? They look like they could beat anyone one week and no one the next. Youth, youth, and more youth.
And I dont just want one finger I want em all. I mean I want bama to pay Slick Nick 4 million a year for the rest of our fingers and as far as that goes I would enjoy taking my shoes off and showing em my toes.......sorry got a little lathered up about it. LOL.
War Damn Eagle.
Media
The media frenzy in the wake of the Bama victory over a Jekyl/Hyde Volunteer team stirred up the Tubs to ATM rumors again. That's all they got--and they're practicing for when Saban drops his first to Auburn--that Tubs is leaving. He's seen the writing on the wall. He can't compete with Nick in recruiting, so he better just get the hell out of Dodge after Nick spots him this first game... haha
We played LSU real well in Red Stick. Let's see how Bama fares against them in T-Town on Nov 3 and see how the Bama media distorts the results.
Most LSU fans online seem to be of the opinion that they dodged a bullet last Saturday. They were thinking they'd just steamroll us.
I don't know about you guys, but I never think of Athens as a road game. I've been to 7 games in Sanford Stadium going back to 1985 and I've only seen one loss for us. It's a closer drive for me, and the Georgia fans are always cool. And they will tell you, no team brings more fans to Athens than Auburn does.
We get pretty loud all cramped in our end-zone section--it's always a good time. Think I might head over there this year. Anyone else planning to road trip it?
