Bowl Possibilities

Now that the regular season is over, we can safely look ahead to possible bowl locales, and even recruiting and next season. I'd like to take a few minutes and look at the first of these options.

If I had to guess, there are three main bowl possibilities that we have for this year:

Outback Bowl
Cotton Bowl
Chick-fil-a (CFA) Bowl

I believe we will be selected for the CFA Bowl, and here's some reasoning:

Star-divide

  1. The SEC Championship game winner will be in the Sugar Bowl, the SEC's #1 bowl spot.
  1. Georgia will get a BCS at-large bid, probably to the Orange Bowl, outside shot at the NC game.
  1. The Capitol One Bowl gets the next selection of SEC teams, and I think regardless of what happens next weekend, they take Florida.

The next three bowls are the Outback, Cotton, and CFA. I think the Outback will take the loser of the SECCG regardless of whether it's LSU or UT. Then the Cotton selects next, and I think that because of nearby location and because Auburn played in it last year, they will pick Arkansas. That leaves us in the CFA.

Caveat: If Tennessee loses next weekend, the Outback may take us over them, simply because they were in that game just last year, but somehow I doubt it.

Another wrinkle: If you poke around the CFA Bowl's website, you can find a link to "Leeman Bennett's Team Selection Blog." I'll spare you the time, and instead send you to this past week's discussion of the teams:

http://www.chick-fil-abowl.com/dnn/T...

You'll notice that he only talks about two main SEC teams in the running, Auburn and Kentucky, and he says that Kentucky needed to beat UT to get consideration. He also said that an Auburn-Alabama winner would be "high on [their] list." Since UK lost and we won, that would probably mean we would get into the CFA, right? Also, he discusses the ACC teams they are looking at: Virginia, Boston College, Virginia Tech. He pretty much says the UVa/VT loser would be out of it. Since the two remaining teams are BC and VT, and one will go to the BCS, I think the CFA best bet is Auburn vs. the loser of the ACC Championship Game.

The other bowl websites do not have anything similar to this for predicting purposes.
