Auburn Picked Second In The West

SEC Media Days concluded in Birmingham yesterday with the media making their annual predictions and voting on the all-conference teams. The fact that only 80 of the nearly 800 media personalities voted means nothing. This poll will be in every newspaper east of the Mississippi this morning.

As expected, LSU was picked to win the West with Auburn finishing second. LSU was also picked to win the conference. No surprise there. Auburn received only five first place votes to win the West compared to 63 by LSU. The Tigers received 4 first place votes to win the SEC behind LSU and Florida.

Surprisingly, Auburn only placed three players on the all conference teams. Defensive end Quentin Groves was put on the first-team, cornerback Jonathan Wilhite was voted to the second-team and King Dunlap made the second-team offensive squad.

Something tells me that before the year is out, Brandon Cox and Cole Bennett will crash that list. There’s something comforting about low expectations, especially when you believe you have a pretty good team. Like Tommy Tuberville said on Wednesday, he’s pretty comfortable being picked behind LSU and Florida. He’d also tell you that he’d rather have them coming to Jordan-Hare than going on the road.

Here’s a look at the rest of the media picks...

SEC West

  1. LSU
  1. Auburn
  1. Arkansas
  1. Alabama
  1. Ole Miss
  1. Mississippi State

SEC East

  1. Florida
  1. Tennessee
  1. Georgia
  1. South Carolina
  1. Kentucky
  1. Vanderbilt

No Surprises

Nothing all that odd about these picks.  If you wanted to go off preseason hype and expectations, these are pretty much what would would expect to see.
