Jason Campbell Injured In Preseason Game

If you’re like me, you’ve been following the progress of former Tiger quarterback Jason Campbell as he begins his first full season as the starter for the Washington Redskins. It’s not everyday that a former Auburn quarterback gets a start in the NFL.
Truthfully, I can’t remember the last time an Auburn quarterback started in the NFL. Pat Sullivan?

| Campbell was injured on this play. |
Campbell was injured on a play where he completed a 29 yard pass to tight-end Chris Cooley. Before being injured, Campbell had connected on 6 of 8 pass attempts for 75 yards.
A good place to follow the Redskins this year is over at fellow SB Nation site Hogs Haven.com. They do an excellent job of keeping up with Campbell and all of the Redskins.
Note: Former Auburn linebacker Marcus Washington was also injured during Saturday night's game with Pittsburgh. Washington dislocated his right elbow. Can you imagine the pain? He could miss several weeks. The NFL openers kick-off in three weeks.

Campbell makes it hard to hate the Redskins...
.....As a lifelong Cowboy fan, the Redskins are NOT one of my favorite NFL teams! However, I can't find fault with Joe Gibbs, and I'll always cheer on former Auburn Tigers. Let's hope he's OK!
.....Yep, you're right about Auburn QBs in the NFL. Charles Thomas made the Seattle taxi-squad [at defensive back], I think, the year after Dye ran him off from Auburn. Jeff Burger was on the bench in Chicago for a few years. Reggie Slack was a star in Canada. Stan White was on, briefly I think, with the Giants, and had a pretty miserable year with the Scottish Claymores. Dameyune Craig spent years on the Carolina bench, but he did set the NFL Europe single-game passing record once, with a herculean 611-yard effort. I always felt that Craig never got a real shot in the NFL. If Doug Flutie could play, why not Craig? NFL fans missed out!
.....My most memorable Pat Sullivan/NFL memory was when he started for the Atlanta Falcons, way back in 1973, on Monday Night Football, against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings. He threw one of the longest TD bombs I'd ever seen, en route to a huge 20-14 upset win.
War Eagle!
Thanks for the history lesson
Acid,
That's good stuff. I had forgotten about Craig's game with NFL Europe. I didn't know that Charles Thomas made it (sort of) as a defensive back with the Seahawks.
Don't you wish some tapes of Sullivan would surface from the NFL? I bet they are out there.
I wanted to get my ducks in a row, but no dice.
.....Jay, I hunted through YouTube, NFL's website, and video searches through Google, Live Search, Alta Vista, and Metacrawler. I'd say the RIAA could take a page from NFL Films, on how to keep copyrighted stuff off the net! Either that, or that 1973 was pre-Betamax, and the only way to home-tape stuff was filming the TV screen with one of those clicky Super-8 cameras.
.....I can't remember who Sullivan threw it to, but I do remember Dave Hampton as a 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dirt runner who kept the chains moving for Atlanta, and kept Tarkington and the Vikes off the field.
Thanks Acid
I'm going to keep looking myself. I love to see old footage. You'd think there would be more out there by now.
He's ok!
MRI revealed no serious damage per the Washington Post. That's the good news, the bad being that Marcus Washington's injury is serious and I'm skeptical about whether he'll be a go for the first game of the season, although he is a manimal and perhaps has X-Men like genetic mutation that allows for accelerated healing.
The first thing I thought of when word of his injury was revealed, was that I cannot imagine a more painful bone to dislocate than an elbow, or knee. I've dislocated a thumb and it took far more than a few weeks (which is what Washington is predicting) to recover full movement. That was without the assistance of any medical professionals, admittedly and I don't want to argue too much from personal anecdote towards Washington's recovery, but elbows hurt even when they aren't dislocated.
Although they aren't my team I plan on keeping a close eye on Auburn this season given how many Redskins the school has produced. We've talked Washington and Campbell but let's not forget Carlos Rogers, who I really hope and need a big year out of in 2007.

Thanks for The Update Skin Patrol
We appreciate the update.. I'm posting it in the diary. That's good news about Campbell. I worry about Washington. He's not a spring chicken anymore. I'll be getting Sunday Ticket this year to follow Campbell and Rogers.
