Game 5: Auburn vs. Florida

Auburn Tigers (2-2) at #3 Florida Gators (4-0)

Saturday, September 29, 2007 – 7:00 p.m. CT

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (88,548) – Gainesville, Florida

Television: ESPN
Announcers: Mike Patrick, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe

Radio: The Auburn Network (throughout the Southeast); Sirius 114; Westwood One (Nationally)

It’s week five of Auburn football. Tonight the Tigers take on the Florida Gators from Gainesville. Auburn comes into the game an 18 point underdog – and for good reason. The Tigers will take 10 true freshmen with them on the travel team to Florida. They will be starting three true freshmen on the offensive line.

It’s going to be a huge challenge for an Auburn team still trying to find its identity. But the Tigers are known for going on the road and winning.

We’ll be keeping this thread open all day and into the night. As you are watching games this afternoon and into the night, please stop in and make a comment on what’s happening across the SEC and the country. Also share your thoughts on Auburn-Florida.

I guess I will start it off...

...by just saying that I guess the nation now sees that  USF is WAY better than anyone thought when they beat us in week 2. Thats a major plus for Auburn and I really hope it boosts the teams confidence to know for sure that some "second rate" team didn't beat us in that game as they have definitely proven that they are one of the better teams playing ball this year. That leaves only ONE game (Mississippi State) that we have loss that we SHOULD have won! A Florida win today, and Auburn will be back in the picture... hope all you Tigers fans have your finger crossed!

I agree Bodagetta...

South Florida is without question a top 10 team. It makes me feel a little better about Auburn. The next few weeks are huge.

We need to play well tonight, even if we don't win, to set us up for the next three weeks. If we beat Vandy and Arkansas, things will set up nicely heading to Baton Rouge.

I know we can't expect to win at LSU, but with some confidence and better health, we'll have a great shot to win out from there. Should we split with Florida and LSU, look out...

I guess...

that they don't let Erin Andrews do the sideline reporting for games involving the Gators?  I can't remember if she's ever done one or not...

Terry Bowden

I just read where Terry Bowden is doing color for Westwood One tonight. Interesting...

A day for upsets...

.....Which bodes well for Auburn! I just watched Colorado knock off the mighty sooners. They did it like we will have to play, to beat Florida, with ball-control!

K-State

Is showing every indication of upsetting Texas (blowing them out actually, currently 41-21 in the 4th) -- thus making Auburn look EVEN better (counting the South Florida win last night as step 1) now, if we can complete the day with step #3 (beating Florida) Auburn WILL be ranked tomorrow! WAR EAGLE!!!

Georgia Tech

Just upset #13 Clemson, and in that same time K-state beat Texas AND Rutgers went down to Maryland. So I compiled a small list of RANKED teams that lost to UNRANKED teams this weekend:

#3 Oklahoma (Colorado)
#5 West Virgina (USF)
#7 Texas (Kansas State) (41-21)
#10 Rutgers (Maryland)
#13 Clemsons (Georgia Tech)

... a good sign for Auburn?? I think so.

Upset Tradition

As a huge Auburn fan that lives 90 miles south of lamesville, this game is either extasy or torture.  This is a fantastic series.  Some of the best college games I have watched have been between these two teams.  Auburn has developed a tradition of pulling off the upset when they are the underdog.  They seem to thrive on it.  They always seem to stumble when they should win or are ranked high pre-season.  The tigers will have their hands full for sure and a lot of the breaks will need to go their way.  Remember though, they weren't supposed to win last year.  On any given Saturday..............you know the rest and because of that fact, you gotta love college football!

The Sheet

Did anyone notice the sheet they are using on the Florida State sideline to hide the play calling? Do you think maybe Bowden doesn't trust Saban?  It was hilarious...

Sheet or no, the Tide is ebbing.

.....I wouldn't want to be down 14 in the 4th with no offense! Not looking good for the Tide.

ATE UP a chunk of the 1st quarter, and...

.....TOUCHDOWN, AUBURN! Great way to start! I need  to start my second drink...

Do you believe it?

&nbsp &nbsp We are CRUSHING them up front! Go freshmen! TD Auburn, RIGHT UP THE GUT!

We are up two TDs at half!

I must be having an alcoholic delusion. War Eagle!

Wow!

We might not win this game, but we have whipped them good in the first half.

Everything has come together perfectly. What can you say? You can't single out one player.  They are playing as a team.  Brandon looks great!  The defense is playing lights out. The second half will be long, but man what a pick me up. You have to like our chances. Kudos to Tuberville and staff. War Eagle!

It's aweonly a flesh wound, matey!

.....Aaron Savage busted badly on a post pattern to Harvin, and UF had first and goal close in, but Marks, Wilhite, and Groves stuff 'em!

.....Savage is feast or famine, this game. Late hit out of bounds, then a great stop. Then, he let's Harvin go by in the middle. He isn't playing scared, though!

Another impressive drive...

.....Gotta love the pounding we're giving the UF defense! They should be starting to wear down... 17-3!

by Acid Reign on Sep 29, 2007 9:18 PM CDT reply actions

Missed a little, on wearing down.

....Now, it looks like Tebow is doing the wearing down, on our D. We need a fumble, folks! We have a 1 TD lead, and they look unstoppable...

This year's AU team returns.

.....We have shot ourselves in the foot over and over, and this one is slipping away.

by Acid Reign on Sep 29, 2007 10:11 PM CDT reply actions

Just when you thought all was lost...

.....Meyer gets absolutely goofy on offense. And Muschamp, down his best players, pulls out a stand! Then, a really crappy punt, and an Auburn 1st down. Could it happen? I can't breathe!

by Acid Reign on Sep 29, 2007 10:18 PM CDT reply actions

The snap, the spot, kick away...

A MISSILE! RIGHT DOWN THE PIPE, IT's GOOOOOOOOODDDDDD! We did it! EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

   War Eagle!

War Damn Eagle!
