Tommy Bowden Out at Clemson

Bowdentommy_medium

Why yes, the sky did fall. Why?

It is confirmed that coach Tommy Bowden is out at Clemson, as was broken by some of our readers. Don't you guys go eat lunch or something? Bowden had this to say:

"Terry Don Phillips approached me this morning and we agreed that this is the best solution for the direction of the program," said Bowden. "Clemson has been very good to me and my family. Both of our children are Clemson graduates. I appreciate the opportunity Clemson University gave me and the support of the administration while I was here. I also want to thank all the student-athletes and coaches who worked so hard for this program the last 10 years. I wish Clemson University nothing but the best in the future."

What was I just telling Auburn Tiger fans, be careful what you wish for? The telling thing is that I don't think Clemson was having as disappointing year as we did in 2003. Granted, one could argue that the palace coup in Hartwell was bloodless and successful, but you know what I mean, right?

I think we Auburn folk should keep an eye on the Tiger Paws and see how the rest of their season plays out so we can remind ourselves how much havoc that instant gratification of firing a coach mid-term actually wrecks on your team. We just did our OC, and they upped the ante...

Can you believe that Muschamp's name is getting floated early?

Clemson just stole our thunder. I guess firing your head coach mid-season trumps firing your OC mid-season.

Wow...

That was quick. Not surprised. I guess he wishes he took the Arkansas job now.

Clemson IS having a worse year, to date, than we did...

…..At this point, Clemson’s ACC Championship hopes are gone. Seven weeks into 2003, we had stunk it up the first two games, but one of those was against the 2003 AP National Champion. We rebounded from the 0-2 start, blew out Vandy and Western KY, manhandled undefeated 7th ranked Tennessee before letting them come back and make the final appear closer than it was, we beat the undefeated 7th ranked defending West champ Arkansas in Fayettenam, and had just DESTROYED Jackie Sherrill’s Bulldogs in the sun at Jordan Hare. 6 Cadillac touchdowns! I got COOKED that day, sitting in the East stands…

…..We were flying high at 5-2, 4-0 in the SEC, leading the West. The wheels didn’t come off the season, till we went to Baton Rouge the following weekend, and spotted the Sabear 21 first quarter points.

…..I’ll be interested to see what Dabo Swinney does with ‘em. He’s a good guy, even if he is a Bama man.

Good point about the SEC schedule...

…still being in play, but I was thinking about how devastating it was for a preseason #1 to drop the first two games.

Reason prevails, it seems.

…..Alabama Live has announced that Tuberville has tapped Kodi Burns as the starter for the remainder of the season.

worst coach in the country

i guess doing less with more got old about 5 years later than it should have. did anyone read the comment from Clemson’s QB Cullen Harper that said “he got what he deserved” or something to that effect. that’s some cold shit. don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Wrong context

When he said “He deserved it,” he was talking about their WR coach who was promoted to HC. CJ Spiller definitely did not have kind words to say, but as I’ve read, Cullen was NOT talking about Bowden in that quote.

The Fanhouse...

…is reporting that Harper DID say that about Bowden. Granted, it’s the Fanhouse, but you know.

The Clemson AD is now claiming that Bowden resigned instead of got fired, but that’s not what Papa Bowden is saying…

What a mess. You guys want that here again anytime soon?

Cullen Harpers Dad actually said it was "Karma".....

petty and Mustain like. Sounds like the Harpers like to kick a man when he is down……how utterly classless.

He is a great Offensive Coordinator and knows the spread.....

although I am sure no Bowden would ever return to the Plains or at least not until Lowder recanted the lies and propaganda…..ok that should be read as “never”.
