It's Coming-Be Prepared

One one side- A team on the verge of collapse. On the other-A team that is steadily getting better and on the verge of a National Championship.  A beloved and embattled coach, possibly on his way out VS a coach that is already a legend in his fan's eyes.

If you thought I was talking about 1992, then you are correct. There are eerie similarities in the way this College Football season has progressed. It reminds me of 1992. Auburn had previously owned Alabama. In fact. Auburn had just come off of a 4 game win streak vs the Tide. The Tide faithful's lack of patience in Bill Curry led to his demise and the hiring of yet another legend in College Football-Gene Stallings. Alabama's powers that be lacked the patience to let Curry do his job-as did they with Mike Shula.

So, now here we are. Saban-you have to give credit where it is due-is a very good coach. But, what I'd like to point out as with Bill Curry-Mike Shula DID recruit well for Alabama. I get tired of the "He left the stable empty" excuse. He brought in Andre Smith, John Parker Wilson, Glenn Coffee, Roy Upchurch, and many many more. Yet, here we are. Auburn doesn't appear capable of winning but one more game this year. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Auburn, but if you think I'm giving us a chance against Georgia and Alabama-then you are wrong. I think that we will play well against Alabama, and perhaps lead for most of the game. But, in the end, I think that this Auburn team has given up. They have given up on our coach and most importantly they have given up on themselves. These last 4 games will be a test of the will and the competitve spirit of these young Auburn men. But, I think it's too late.

I, like all of you, never saw this coming and am totally confounded by this season. i don't really want Tubs to go, but you know he won't clean house on his staff. He won't bring in a new wide receivers coach, quarterback coach, offensive line coach, or special teams coach. So what do we do? I say that if he refuses to change certain personnel then he must go with them. I don't want him too, but he needs to listen to reason.

It's going to have taken Alabama less than 2 calendar years to get a shot at a title under Saban. They won't win it, but I like them to win the SEC, and play Texas for the national championship. And, that doesn't sit well with me. Tubs needs to reflect right now and decide if he really is an Auburn man. He needs to win back his team, and do it quickly. There is a slight chance that it could happen this year, but what Auburn needs is a player to step up and lead this team. Who that player is, I have no idea. But, I have faith that there is someone that will lead this team and help get us back on the right track.

We are down right now, and Alabama is flying high. Let's get it together and be the team that craps on Bama's perfect season on November 29th.

War Eagle

Here Here

I once asked the question why are there so many Alabama fans that never graduated from the university? I was told its because their parents were fans and it was passed down.........(my response after a pause).....similar to racism.....?

Playing the full 60 minutes

I dig the angst in this post, because i feel it too. Sometimes I miss being in the South and listening to the stupid sports shows: “It is all about fundamentals”; “We have to play the full 60 minutes”; “We have to give 150% percent”.

Honestly, in this season, I am stoked when we can make a 3rd down conversion, and I have never quite been sure what ‘giving 150%’ looks like. If we could somehow have a 2nd half that looks like the 1st half, we have a chance. Hell, we might have more than a chance; we might actually score more points than the other team (which I also remember from the stupid sports shows as being critical to actually winning a football game). So now I am channeling my inner redneck and phoning in and saying, “War Eagle” somberly with a pause “Well (BURP, because I have been drinking PBR since 9:00 am), we just have to go back to fundamentals and play the full 60 minutes of the ballgame. War Eagle!”

I am hoping that Tubbs cleans house. He got rid of Noel Mazzone, even though, Mazzone had been with him since ’95. I realize the current assistants have had a much longer tenure BUT, ultimately, he does what he needs to do to get this team back on track. Back to my PBR…….

Bad memory

You write that in 1992, “Auburn had previously owned Alabama.” Alabama beat Auburn in 1990 and 1991 as well as 1992.

by rtr on Oct 26, 2008 3:01 PM CDT reply actions

Whose memory is bad?

We owned Bama in the ‘80s: with wins in ’82, ’83, ’86-’89.

Soooo many errors....

First of all, Mike Shula did not recruit well. Andre Smith was his only 5 star who was a lifetime fan of Alabama who grew up in Bham. He was coming to Bama regardless of who the coach was. To give you proof of this, when took his official visit to AU he wore Alabama gear and was basically told to leave. As for the other names you mentioned, they are good players and we love having them but lets be real, they weren’t on anybody’s radar before Saban arrived. If anything, Saban has molded this team into a contender, not won with other coach’s top teir recruits because they were anything but. Upchurch was touted out of high school but he was a never was before Saban. JPW didn’t get offers from anybody and his high school coach had to convince Bama to give him a chance.

Your comparison to ’92 makes some sense but in terms of Stallings-Saban. Stallings did have alot of talent that was left over from Curry. This is not the case with Saban, this was a very average team (see 2007) when he arrived and he has done an awesome job with this group.

Firstly, regardless of what you say, don’t lose all hope for the Iron Bowl just yet. To sound cliche, this is the one game where records are thrown out of the window.

As far as your current state of condition is concerned, it’s only ONE bloody down year. You guys HAVE YET to post a losing record this decade, where we’ve posted four, and outside of that only two seven win seasons. Everyone is bound to have a bad year, and even the great Saban almighty has already had one already and is bound to have more in the forthcoming future, and if Tubs would clean house and get a competent offensive STAFF in, then your offense would progress immensely.

With great respect, what most of your fans fail to realize is Alabama has their down years, but we don’t stay down forever. Some of you guys acted as if we’d never see anything beyond a seven win season, all throughout the past few years and when I’d try to argue against that, I was laughed off of the Internet. We’ve survived nearly half a dozen coaching changes and NCAA sanctions atop that, and regardless of what anyone says, THAT WAS a major reason why this has been one of the worst eras in modern day Alabama history.

I talk trash and I love it. That’s what this rivalry is all about. But even as a rival fan whose team has shown overwhelming improvement this year, that last game of the regular season is still scary to me. So don’t act as if you’ve already lost, because we’ve been playing tremendously horrible at home this year and I know for a fact you guys are better than Tulane, and they literally SHUT our offense down. Whose to say your defense can’t? Don’t get me wrong, I’m PRAYING for a win, but nothing is for sure in this series and that’s a fact!

Also

factor in the fact that we haven’t beaten Auburn in Bryant Denny. Alot of streaks on the line come November 29th.

plenty

this is just the fun part of all the good stuff going on with us. you guys poke and prod at us when we’re down and think it’s just awful when we return the favor. Even if it wasn’t you specifically doing the taunting. We all lump each other together when we speak of alabama fans and auburn fans. The good fans pay the price for the stupid fan’s mistakes. Goes both ways. . . be a good sport.

So.

are you saying your the stupid fan? I do believe thats what i got out of it…. No need to respond it was a rhetorical question

I once asked the question why are there so many Alabama fans that never graduated from the university? I was told its because their parents were fans and it was passed down.........(my response after a pause).....similar to racism.....?

And I've asked myself the SAME exact question...

regarding you guys over the last six years as well, Gumptown. Would I be here if every post didn’t make a reference toward UA? Absolutely not. The more you guys talk about us, the more you’ll hear FROM us!

So you have

ask yourself if you are a stupid fan?

And, yes, you would be here on this blog, no matter what.

Never posted anything on any blog other than this one

Like they say it is the minority that give the majority a bad rap. So you know, you are the Alabama version of the Auburn fans that have pissed you off over the last 6 years. How does it feel to become something you hate?

The only other blog

I have posted on is the AOL site but I haven’t posted over there for over a year. After Jay Coulter left that site, it got to where Pete Holiday ( a bammer through and through) was writing for the Auburn blog. What kind of crap is that?

Alabama_Tech_Cowgirls_in_Aubarn, stay on your bammer sites along with your redneck buddies.
