The Tigers roar in...
……And the white-clad players look a LOT more fired up than the Oxford crowd. Let’s hope the Reb players haven’t woken up yet, either!
Correction,
…..Ole Miss won, and wants the ball! Byrum launches it to the six, Wallace bobbles it, gets it back, then snakes out to the 15.
Probably the biggest news...
…..is that Jerraud Powers is out. D’Antoine Hood, the true freshman, is starting at corner. And Zach Etheridge is playing the nickel, with a sore shoulder. Thus far, Auburn hasn’t gotten any pressure on Snead. Both passes were off play action…
Possession play for Ole Miss,
…..on 3rd and 2. They’ll go with the shotgun. Quick screen to Wallace, Auburn playing off, first down.
That was McCluster, not Wallace.
…..From the I, Eason takes the dive up the middle for 3, Bynes on the stop.
I had forgotten...
…..how TERRIBLE the camera work is on these JP/LF/Raycom telecasts is! I can’t even read the player numbers…
Auburn will open...
…..in the shotgun (?) Burns will zing it to Rod Smith on the hitch, knee down on the catch.
3rd and 5,
…..possession play from the shotgun. The slant to Dunn, first down! Welcome back, Robert!
So, from the 43...
……Durst will drop it! and get it away to the 25. Only a 26 yard effort, but at least it wasn’t blocked!
Auburn with the ball, at their own 30.
…..On 1st down, Ole Miss will pack the box. 8:58 left in the first. Auburn will go with the shotgun. Option to the short side, Lester bobbles the pitch, but picks up six anyway!
2nd and 4
…..Burns will set the play, deals it off to Lester short side again, Lester picks up the first!
3rd and 8
…..Long yardage, shotgun. Ole Miss shows blitz, Burns lofts it up WAY past Slaughter, nearly picked off. Incomplete. Good blitz pickup, but no dice.
So, Ole Miss will start with...
…..good field position. From the 42, the I. Off tackle left, nothing, but a flag in. HOLDING!
From the 32
……Snead will go under center. The drop, no one open, sacked by Antoine Carter! Coverage sack….
2nd and 28
……Ole Miss goes shotgun. Draw to Eason, got about 5. Uh oh. Coleman is face down on the field.
On 3rd and 24
……Snead will operate from the shotgun. Dump off, and he missed the wide open back. Snead is not on, and did we hear a few boo birds?
3rd and 3
…..Burns will take it, hit immediately, ball pops up, and SOMEHOW, Bosley gets it away from 2 Ole Miss defenders!
Durst will
…..nail this one, out of bounds about the 30. Only 28 yards. Durst has had pressure up the middle, and is kicking horribly.
Ace look.
…..Up the middle, and Eason is running all over tiger linebackers, we suddenly can’t tackle. Huge run for about 25.
From the Auburn
40, End around to Wallace, McFadden WHIFFS on him, losing contain, and Wallace gets about 3. McFadden is hurt, on a clip.
2nd and 24
……Ole Miss will stay under center. Ace again. Play action, no pressure, Snead takes off, a 17 yard pickup. Linebackers? Where, taking a water break?
Luckily,
Kent Austin is calling a pretty horrible game, so far. Snead is OFF. The first quarter ends, in a scoreless 0-0 deadlock. War Eagle, and we’ll get the ball on the punt, to start the second quarter.
Harry Adams played...
…..only one snap, and did pretty well, as Snead had to run. And McFadden was back on the 3rd down. Ole Miss is NOT testing our secondary, yet. Strange.
1st and 10
…..Shotgun. Nothing up the middle. The corners are leaving the wide receivers. No coverage at all. Watch.
Durst back in,
……and actually needs to kick this one! Towering shot, back to the 32 and a fair catch by Green. That’s around 48 yards net.
…..Finally, a good punt. I think they really screwed Durst up, having him place-kick, this week. Took him a quarter to get settled…
Ole Miss failed to capitalize on good field position,
……and is back about where they started. From the 32, Shotgun, zone read to McCluster up the middle, and gets very little. Blanc and Marks filled well.
2nd and 10
…..Shotgun. Snead will launch one over double coverage, at McNeil and McFadden. As all day, Snead is off. Incomplete into the bench.
Burns was sharp on his first couple of throws, but...
…..evidently Jevan Snead has infected him. Neither quarterback on target, since the first series.
Durst will come back in,
…..for his 5th punt. A HOWITZER, the 31. First tackle was missed, but we get him down around the 40. Green survived a horsecollar attempt that wasn’t called.
2nd and 13
…..Snead under center. He’ll deal it to Bolden outside. We lose contain, miss tackles, and genenerally fail. It was Etheridge, again.
3rd and 9
…..Snead reminds me of Bernie Kozar, the old Miami QB of the early 80s. Throws it almost sidearm.
A possession play with about 6 minutes left in the half...
…..Snead will fire to McCluster on the out, we play way off again, but hold ’em short of the first.
I, for the life of me,
…..can’t understand why we’re trying to run the ball out of the shotgun, again. Why? It hasn’t worked all year!
2nd and 10
…..Under center, Play fake, pressure, Burns escapes, fires upfield to Fannin, who fumbles, and Ole Miss has the ball at the AU 22. Wow.
Raycom doesn't have much,
…in the replay department. From that angle, I don’t think Fannin had control of the ball.
3rd and 10
……From the shotgun, Burns will face pressure. Good protection, and Burns fires to Trott over the middle for a first down! Great blocking by the line!
1st and 10,
…..Clock winding down to 4 minutes. Handoff out of the shotgun to Fannin, short side, again, Fannin breaking tackles, picks up 5!
3rd and 2
…..We’ll go under center, 1 back. 3 wide. Handoff Fannin, no lead blockers, predictable result. Loss of 1. Stupid call against an 8 man front.
Durst back in.
…..Will DRILL this one, fair caught at the 14! About 2 minutes left, Ole Miss backed up.
1st down 1:09 left.
…..High throw on the out to McCluster, off the hands. McFadden playing off again.
3rd and 10
…..Shotgun, 3 man Auburn front. Read option to McCluster, and he bolts through to the Auburn 23. A 28-yard pickup, no linebackers home.
Ole Miss
….Will go from the shotgun. Snead fires over the middle to McCluster, complete down inside the 5.
Touchdown, Ole Miss,
….the kick is good, with a 10-0 lead. Our defense is turning over a new leaf. This week, we’ve decided not to wait till the second half to collapse. That was about as bad as it’s been, all year.
On offense,
…..we have a grand total of 24 yards, having totally abandoned the I and Ace formations. With all of these slow developing shotgun handoffs, I’m wondering, did we secretly give Tony Franklin his job back? Who thought up this game plan?
1st down
read-option to Fannin, for 7, clock runs. What? 3 timeouts, and you’re running the clock out?
omg!!
Tubs ole school game management, no deep bombs three timeouts left ..what a shame
Auburn Elvis
The half winds down,
……and Auburn appears to be in total disarray. Ole Miss leads, 10-0. Auburn ran the clock out, down 10 points, with 3 timeouts left. If Jevan Snead could throw better, we’d have been down by about 30.
Horrible, horrible
…..game plan, on offense. On defense, we’re giving the Ole Miss Rebel receivers tons of room. They can get 8 yards by just zinging it out there. Our linebackers can’t tackle, don’t know where to be. We lose contain outside, can’t tackle up the middle. Durst didn’t help us in the first quarter, with short punts. Why, why, why, did we mess with him as a place-kicker?
……War Eagle, but we don’t look like we care about going to a bowl, this year.
Honestly,
…..I didn’t really expect to win today, but I hoped we’d come out and play hard. It looks like a Friday spring scrimmage, for our players. HOW do you leave 3 timeouts on the table, with 30 seconds left, down 10, at midfield?
Our best bet would be just to forfeit the rest of season
and even the second half that way tubs can keep his .500 records in tack, we look like 8 man highschool team playing against the Titans out here, this is demoralizing
Auburn Elvis
Maybe,
They decided to reverse the roles, play awful in the first have and come alive in the second. I can hope! At least for the next 15 minutes.
What I don't understand,
…..is why Tubs won’t even fight for his players? No challenge flag on the push-off TD? Run the clock out when you’re down double digits? Why?
It doesn't make sense to me either
After 10 years, Iv’e never seen this side of Tubberville. I just can’t except yet that he has given up yet it sure looked to me like I saw to quarters of an Auburn team that doesn’t have any fight in them.
I love the Geico commercial.
…..What are you doing at the coffee shop with the laptop? “A little shopping.” No, no, NO! That guy sitting across the coffee shop is probably sitting there with his Linux packet sniffer running, and will snarf up those logins and credit card numbers! Irresponsible of Geico…
Auburn will receive to start.
…..Kick coming. We don’t have enough men up front! They kick it deep, though, and Davis cuts it out to the 24. Good coverage by Ole Miss.
From the Ole MIss 40,
, we don’t get the snap off. Review. And they’re going to see that Slaughter stepped out before the catch.
The review...
…..Wipe out the big throw and catch, and will Auburn go 2nd and 10 from the 24? Wow. Those buffoons took FOREVER to make the wrong call! Missed the push earlier, missed that one.
3rd and very long.
…..The boos continue to rain down. SHotgun. Burns will run, a defender falls down, and Burns will power forward to the 27! First down!
1st down, Auburn moving!
Offset I! UP THE GUT, Ben Tate! Blows up the D, Ziemba and Green, earthmovers! Tate will roar in for the TD!
Ha, Ha, Ha
See!!!!!! Told you it was a role reversal! War Eagle!
Byrum's kick,
is GOOOD! Auburn cuts the Ole Miss lead to 10-7! I formation, for the first time all day!
That looks more like
the way they have been starting the games.
The kickoff,
…..flies down to the goal line, Wallace, dancing around, made a bad cut, and finally gets dumped at the 22.
The Fire Is Back
That touchdown has lit em up!
2nd and 6
…..I, stacked receivers, handoff Tate, a repeat of the play that scored earlier, this time loses a yard.
3rd and 7
……Shotgun, 4 wide. Blitz, picked up, and Burns will find Tim Hawthorne over the middle, Hawthorne hangs on, and runs, and picks up 24!
Possession play,
SHotgun. Ole Miss jumping. A twist, and Burns tries to force it into double covered Trott, ball out of bounds.
We're doing a MUCH better job...
….picking up blitzes and stunts. They ran a tackle-end twist on Pugh and Berry, and the two linemen switched off seamlessly.
Ole Miss will go from the 20,
…..1st and 10. 3rd quarter clock is reading 9:10. Ole Miss will line up in the I. Off-tackle hand off for 3, McCluster.
Auburn, 1st and 10 at the 21.
……Burns will line ’em up in the shotgun. Draw, Burns slithers up to the 27.
2nd and 4
…..Shotgun. Fannin, short side, buried. Safety and corner on that side were crashing before the ball was even snapped.
2nd and 10
…..Shotgun, Burns with time, dumps it into a sea of blue shirts, tipped around, and picked off.
1st and 10 at midfield
I set. Eason up the gut, no one in the A-gap. Etheridge hangs on and holds it to 9.
1st down Rebs
…..at the Auburn 33. 1 back, Ace. Short drop, Bynes on the blitz, knocked the pass down.
3rd and 2
…..Auburn needs a stop. Under center, I, the pitch to McCluster, we lose contain badly, McNeil finally tracks him down inside the 10.
1st and goal
…..from the 6, Wild Rebel with Bolden taking the snap, and surging forward for 3. Flag, though.
That backs it up, to the 16.
…..First and goal. I set. 1 wide, play fake, out route, Hood tips the pass, nearly intercepted!
3rd and goal
from the 10. Empty backfield, zone. Snead trying to scramble, and is pulled down by Blanc, and we get late flags.
Auburn takes over...
…..at the 28. No points given up, despite Ole Miss at the 6! Burns sandlots it to Trott, out to the 35. That will be the last play of the 3rd quarter, and Ole Miss leads 10-7.
Ole MIss
is going to LOAD it up. I say fade, to Billings or Slaughter. Try to get points, and if we don’t score, Byrum HAS to make it from 36 yards, right?
Slaughter deserves...
….a shot, here. He’s BEEN our offense, today. He’s tall. Load it up to him. Maybe even on a post.
1st down
at the Auburn 49. Handoff Bolden, breaks tackles, down close to the first down at the Auburn 39.
1st down
Rebs at the 21, threatening to put this one away. Stretch handoff, McCluster is BURIED by Ricks!
2nd and 14
from the 25. 1 back. play action, Hood got flagged on the incomplete pass. Hood hanging on, should be another first down.
3rd and 4
…..Possession play. MCluster on the pitch, Stevens lost contain. Poor play by the linebacker.
1st and goal
from just inside the 4. Jumbo set. Play action, dumps to Derrick Davis, the fullback, easy touchdown, game over.
With seven minutes left,
down 10, it would take an Auburn miracle. We need to keep taking shots downfield, though.
This would be a great time,
for Tristan Davis to take a kickoff to the house. Nutt teams are too disciplined on coverage lanes, though, for that to happen. Davis would have to break tackles up the middle, for it to happen.
On the kick,
……they boot it to Davis, he loses it in the sun, and it goes out the side of the end zone.
3rd and 9
…..Shotgun. Burns misses an open receiver, and we’ll have to punt. Billings was WIDE open.
Durst...
…..is going to boom it, to the 35. Luckily, Marshay Green falls down at the 40, because we sure couldn’t get a handle on him. Flag.
Personal Foul,
hands to the face on Ole Miss, and that will give Auburn a first down? Nutt doesn’t understand, and I don’t either.
From the 35
Burns will flip it short to Slaughter, near a first. Clock runs, down around 5 minutes in the game.
1st and 10
…..Auburn 46. Pump, up top, Billings is hit before the ball got there, no call, incomplete.
From the 7,
Handoff up the middle for a bunch, a fumble, and Hood recovers for Auburn! It looked down, to me, before the hit.
Mismanaged,
this game has been. At least they are going to give Burns some more practice, here under a minute.
51 seconds left.
from the 17, Burns in the shotgun. Dump to Fannin, he’ll get out over the 25. Ole Miss rushing only 3.
Taking FOREVER to line up
Burns shakes off a sure sack, and finds Slaughter upfield on the sideline for the first.
eight seconds.
…..Time for one, maybe two throws in the end zone. The first, over the middle to Hawthorne.
Last play
from the 25 . dump to Fannin, down to the 10, it’s over. Ole Miss topples Auburn, 17-7. Auburn falls to a losing 4-5 record.
We've got...
homecoming next week, we host Georgia after that. A week off, then a trip to T-Town. If we can let Burns throw like he did today, we beat UT Martin. Can we get an upset on one of the last two, to get bowl-eligible? Only if we get some defensive backs healthy. We were having to give up WAY too much cushion. Stafford and J. P. Wilson will gobble that stuff up…
