Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Strange Feeling

Does anyone think that this Iron Bowl has a different feeling to it?  Is it just me or do the offensive woes of Auburn and the unblemished play of Bama put a negative spin on this game?  Well, I just don’t buy it.

Were we supposed to win in 1972… nope.  How about 1982… nope.  What about 1989… again most would say no, although Auburn people knew that the Tide would not win that day.  Even in 2002, with all the Auburn injuries and playing a Bama teamed ranked 7th in the nation in Tuscaloosa, we prevailed.  What makes this year any different?  Is it because we have shown no ability to get the ball in the end zone on offense?  Is it because we have lost 6 games?  I cannot answer those questions, but dammit Auburn can do it.

Coaches and players can talk about one day at a time and it is fine by me.  In my opinion, if fans use that cliché than they just look plain dumb.  Well no matter who is using that tired ole cliché, players, coaches or fans, we are at that critical point.  There are no more days… if we lose this game, it is our last game of the year.  It is win or go home.  I am not quite ready to end this season that some are calling the season of death.  It has been painful, but our seniors should not have to go out to a losing season.  It is a tall order, Bryant-Denny will be packed and ridiculously loud.  But I doubt it will be louder than Jordan-Hare is on any SEC Saturday.  Auburn teams of the past have been here before.  The Auburn Coaching Staff has been here before as well.  Maybe, just maybe, this team can call on them to show the leadership involved in getting a huge win in hostile territory.

Is Auburn the better team on paper?  Absolutely not.  Has the best team on paper always won the game?  We know the answer to that one.  Auburn is in position to do something miraculous.  They can be mentioned in Iron Bowl lore with Punt Bama Punt, Bo over the top, or more recently the Tre Smith Show.  I just have a feeling that this team is going to come together this week.  I have been looking for that to happen in the last couple of games, but it has just not clicked.  This is the week.  Bama fans are saying that, “We as Auburn Fans are crazy for thinking that the Tigers can come together on the biggest stage.”  They also add that our one glimmer of hope is moving the ball "pretty well" against Georgia.  I will take that glimmer of hope.  That is hope that on the biggest stage, players want to make plays.  Sometimes those plays work out, and some times they don’t.  If Kodi and whoever is kicking the FGs can make plays... we have a chance.  I will never count my guys out.  Especially with our defense finally back and semi-healthy.  As a fan, a chance is all I need.

We all are fans, which is short for fanatic… we should be as hyped and fanatical about the 2008 edition as any other Iron Bowl.  So if you are going to Tuscaloosa, bring it and yell like you have for the past six Iron Bowls.  If you are going to be staying at home, yell just like you were at Bryant-Denny.  That is what I will be doing, and I am sure the neighbors will be fine with it.  I will be missing my first Iron Bowl in 11 years, and my first ever in Tuscaloosa.  It is not because of a lack of trying, or that I do not have faith in my Tigers.  The stars have not aligned for me this season like seasons past.  I will be there in spirit my friends, and cheering until the very last play.

Ha... Ha

o’kay, I was assuming that no one would be able to claim that they had been to those games and the second installment of the series in Tuscaloosa. I guess nothing gets by you.

"I will never count my guys out." OH REALLY?? Exhibit A:

Prediction

Auburn will win the toss and elect to take the ball. The Tigers have great balance and take a 7-0 lead on a Burns bootleg. Bama will march it down the field with ease and tie it up. Auburn stalls, Bama moves the ball but cannot get in the endzone. 10-7 Bama. Auburn stalls again. Wilson will throw an INT, and give AU the short field, and Auburn has no luck in the red zone, but we get 3. 10-10. Bama takes the lead again with sbout a minute left in the half. 17-10 Bama at the half.

Bama comes out and runs the ball down Auburns thoat. 24-10 Bama. Auburn plays on Burns and Fannins heart alone and cuts it to 24-17. Areanas fumbles a punt and gives Auburn another short field. Hull kicks another field goal 24-20 Bama.

The Bama fans get restless, but Wilson leads Bama to a much needed TD in the fourth. 31-17 Bama. Kodi Burns does all he can, but turns the ball over late in the game.

Final 31-17 Bama. As much as I try, I cannot see the Tigers pulling out a win. The only true way to see us hanging around is if Bama gives us the short field. Stranger things have happened, but Bama is just too big in the trenches.

There's a difference between thinking one team will lose and counting that team out

I thought Ole Miss would lose to Florida, but I didn’t count them out.

I changed it over at RBR, but when they posted it over here, it did not make the trip. Just a little error.

My Point exactly...

I did not think that Auburn would beat UF in 1993, but we did. I never counted them out. I never thought that Vandy would beat Auburn, but I never counted them out. Hell, I never thought that Bama would be 11-0 but I never counted them out.

Winning the game, and counting a team out are two totally different things. As a Bama fan I would not expect you to understand that. If you are not winning as a team, you lose the ability to be a fan. I bet you are one of the people who have had your Tide Flag, magnets and stickers (you cant have just one) hidden in your closet for the past 6 years. It is funny how now that Bama is pretty good the fans come out of the woodwork.

Enjoy your 11-0 season, possibly 11-2 season before the bowl game. Again, I am never counting my guys out.

Pep Talk?

Yeah, I dont know if you know this, but I dont need to give anyone a pep talk. I just thought that I would tell my Auburn brothers and sisters what I was thinking about Saturdays game. We talk about Auburn Sports around here. None of this stupid video crap. Over at RollBamaRoll, all your decent information is in the Fan post. What kind of show are you guys running over there? Put up something meaningful on the main page, and maybe you will not spend so much time over here.

Never even looked at this page until now..

and you can thank WEA for that, since he’s on RBR pretty much 24/7 practically begging for it. You can do or talk about whatever you want, I don’t care, but it’s one thing to ‘always have hope no matter what’ because I always believe the Tide will find a way as well.

It’s a totally different thing to wax poetic on ‘paper’ about having a glimmer of hope and not giving up and then predicting a loss and adding As much as I try, I cannot see the Tigers pulling out a win.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I thought I’d do your family a favor by showing them that you talk one way here and another way at RBR.

btw- here’s one of those ‘au’ catch phrases you’re so fond of: AUtopsy (you’re gonna need one)

How novel...

a pecker wood named after a wood pecker. Here’s a catch phrase that I’m particularly fond of……BUCK FAMA! War Damn Eagle! AU 24-Bama 21

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

I talk the same way...

I can be a true fan and take my medicine. I can see Auburn winning, but it will take a almost perfect game from us and an off game for the Bama Defense. In reality will that happen? Most likely not…

I am not a fan that sees Auburn winning every game. I hope that we do, and I know that we have a chance too, but I am realistic. Most Auburn People are that way, I have noticed. Anyways, dont come over here telling “my family” how I am. They know me. They read my post every week.

Also if you can read, you will see that no where in my post do I say that Auburn will win the game. I think that we can win, and I sure as hell hope we win, but I am not able to see the future.
