UAT Fans Remain Bitter And Delusional After Nearly A Decade Of Beatdowns

Alabamagamesig2qt3_medium

Last night, for the first time all week, I paid a visit to Roll Bama Roll.com. Quite frankly, I rarely visit the site because I really don't care what they write about or what their fans think. With that said, I'm sure glad I dropped in.

If you haven't already, do take time today to head over to RBR and see for yourself what six years of misery can do to fans. It's beautiful. For more than 2,555 days the Tigers have ruled the state of Alabama. Should Bama win tomorrow there will still be little change in the state pecking order. Winning one of seven hardly makes you dominant. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Bama must first win, which is something I'm still not convinced will happen.

Tide fans need to face it. They have about as much chance of winning the national championship this year as Auburn. Florida will likely crush Nick Saban's hired hands by more than two touchdowns in Atlanta - close but no cigar.

Let's get back to RBR. Reading their blog has been eye opening to say the least. Spend five minutes there and you see the effects of going nearly a decade without a win in the Iron Bowl. These people are downright miserable.  They are bitter and mad as hell. Many of them are delusional.

Some of our readers have made fun of RBR doing movie reviews and other crap that has nothing to do with football. I can sympathize. Auburn has had one bad season in ten years. These guys haven't had a good one since Bill Clinton's first term. I credit them for not doing fashion reviews and home design tips. An Auburn win will likely lead to postings about Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Personally, I'd blow my brains out if I had to cover such an inadequate product for so long. Speaking of which, should Bama lose tomorrow night, it's a safe bet that Bryce, the school's sister campus, will be expanding its facilities to accept more transfer students. I hear they have great socials together already.

Again, if you have some time today do yourself a favor and visit RBR. I promise it will put a smile on your face and some bounce in your step. Say what you will about Tommy Tuberville. This guy has gutted the Bama Nation. Despite 11 wins, these people are still feeling inferior to Auburn and it shows. It's great to be an Auburn Tiger.

Tubs and Fulmer will always own Bama ... history will not be kind

Bama Nation and Saban got rid of one bogeyman in Phil Fulmer, now they hope to do the same against our Coach. It just can’t happen. Tuberville has something over Bama Nation and they fear him, God, they fear him. His smile and fingers sicken them so. Each year, he stabs deep into the belly of the crimson beast. They can say that the streak doesn’t matter, but win after win after win (times two) does something to a team and to a fan base. I know all things must come to an end, but I’ll damned if the streak ends this year!

Could you please pontificate further...

And convince me that the only way Auburn wins this game is for Alabama to gift wrap it for them? What about this fine Auburn football team that we will see Saturday makes you think they can play with the Tide? I would love to actually talk about X’s and O’s instead of who the more delusional fans are because I have seen as much delusion from the Auburn fanbase as I have from the Alabama fanbase and times. It is only a matter of perspective so let’s leave that be and simply talk football…

by myradiohead on Nov 28, 2008 10:49 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Let's talk football

Hey myradiohead,

You’re right, the X’s and O’s are the important part. I’m not a delusional fan — I do believe Alabama more than likely will win the game, but that is not guaranteed. Alabama has several small weaknesses that, if all exploited, will result in a game that may tilt in Auburn’s favor.

The truth is that Alabama’s offense relies on plays in its running game. Their passing game is not ridiculously impressive or explosive, just somewhat efficient when called upon. So, if we can work to stop the run, we put ourselves in a really good situation as our secondary actually isn’t all that bad (since Rhoads has come, we’ve given up many less big plays in the passing game). The key for Auburn to win the game is to not lose the game in the first half. Alabama is hardly what I consider a four-quarters team (see: Georgia, Ole Miss, etc.), so as long as we keep them from beating us in the first-half, we stand a good change.

As far as our offense, that will be a challenge. We did see some improvement against Georgia, granted their defense is sub-par to Alabama. The key is going to be Burns’s play-making skills on-the-fly, whether running or passing, as Alabama’s D-line is pretty solid. If we can establish a running game (and that’s a very big “if” with Cody covering those two gaps), we will be in good position. We will likely be more successful running to the outside with Fanin and Lester as our O-line just isn’t strong to push north-south on the line.

So, yes, overall Alabama has a very good chance of winning, but it is not necessary for Alabama to giftwrap the game for Auburn to win. Auburn has won the past six and Tubs knows a little bit about winning the Iron Bowl, even against solid Bama teams (see ’02 and ’05).

a bit off in your reasoning...

Let’s look at the facts that we know. I feel for you but Bama will have to gift wrap this game for Auburn to win regardless of how you try to spin things. Auburn simply doesn’t have the team to outplay Alabama and what is super scary for you is that Alabama is super young (one of the youngest in the nation) and are dominating recruiting both instate (by a landslide), regionally, and are top 5 again nationally. Anyone that tells you talent isn’t 90% of the winning formula needs to have their head examined.

Specifically looking at the common opponents this year that Auburn and Alabama share (TN, GA, MSU, LSU, ARK, and Ole Miss) Bama is 6-0 against and Auburn is 2-4 (and both Croom and Crompton gift wrapped those wins for you and you know how since I know you watched those games).

Alabama’s defense is 3rd in the nation in total defense and Auburn’s offense is 107th out of 119 in total offense. Alabama’s offense is 58th in the nation and Auburn’s defense is 24th. Hardly close enough to call close. Alabama’s offensive rank is pulled down by the fact that Bama is only 100th in the nation in passing but 23rd in rushing. You talk about Alabama’s passing game not being impressive or explosive but it simply hasn’t had to be. We have dominated the line and rushed the football over everyone.

Little known stat to look up. Alabama has played against 7 teams that are in the top 40 teams (top third) in total defense and handled everyone. Not blown anyone out (unless you call 29-9, 41-30 (see first half of GA), and 32-7 blowouts) because Alabama doesn’t run the type of offense to do that but handled them. Now some of those teams have offenses to go with those defenses and we still prevailed.

This game boils down to if Alabama comes out and plays their game without turning the ball over it is a done deal. Auburn simply can’t outplay them.

Now can Auburn win this game? Absolutely. Their biggest plus is having a speedy defense that hits you and can cause turnovers but Alabama simply isn’t that team that you all have picked on year after year due to subpar talent and subpar coaching anymore. Name one time this year you have seen Alabama outplayed over the course of an entire game. I can name more times than not that Auburn has against teams that are a quarter of the team they will be facing tomorrow.

You need turnovers, a lack of effort from Alabama, JPW to implode, and Kodi to get lucky to win this ball game.

Just as much as Auburn could actually steal this one Alabama could win this one in a blowout. I am hoping for the latter. Roll Tide!

by myradiohead on Nov 28, 2008 6:41 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

blah blah blah blah blah.....

your name should be “talking swollen head”……“auburn simply can’t outplay them”…..Oh reeeheeeheeeally! They can if they execute and don’t shoot themselves in the foot with turnovers and penalties. I would love to hear your excuses on sunday.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

by Todd92 on Nov 28, 2008 6:48 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

just one question then..

That’s fine… Resorting to name calling always makes you look smart doesn’t it. The fact is there is nothing that gives anyone any indication of anything any different than what I posted. There will be no excuses on Sunday from me if Auburn wins. There will have to be a miraculous string of events in the game for Alabama to lose this game to Auburn. If you can’t admit that to yourself it really doesn’t change anything. Alabama controls this game. If Auburn brings their best game of the year into Bryant-Denny tomorrow (which I suspect they will since that is all they have to play for) Alabama will still have to give this one away with turnovers, penalties, etc. Auburn simply doesn’t control their own destiny in this one Todd. Roll Tide!

Actually, I’m not scared about Bama’s youth for several reasons. Primarily, I’m not scared because I know that Auburn actually does have raw talent and offensive playmakers who just need solid offensive coaching from a good OC. The defense has been solid for years, and can expect to continue in that respect. Secondly, Bama will be going through the same problem as Auburn this year with a brand-new quarterback with very little experience. Thirdly, as is often seen, teams with high expectations cave under the pressure (see: Auburn and Georgia), especially teams that are very young.

As per Alabama’s rushing game, it relies mostly on the O-line rather than the actual skill of the running backs (not to say Coffee and Ingram lack skill, but they rarely utilize it if there — I can run through some of the creases the O-line make). Auburn’s D-line actually matches up quite well with Bama’s O-line, forcing Bama’s running backs to make a play. Auburn’s defensive line is very quick and can jump to the runner very quick. Now, if this effect is accomplished, Auburn’s D really only needs to worry about the JPW-to-Julio pass, which I believe Powers and McFadden can cover excellently (see: D.J. Hall, Iron Bowl 2007).

The major problem with Auburn’s offense is not moving the ball but finishing. We stood in the red zone against Georgia twice to win the game and failed to execute. However, should we execute (which obviously is a possibility should we play to the best of our ability), this game will be incredibly close. Alabama simply isn’t dominant enough to make this game a blow-out in my opinion. Keeping it close and pulling out the win is something that (though not this year) is almost a trademark of the Tuberville Era.

We remain bitter for two simple reasons:

Reason 1) The fact that THE Alabama Polytechnic Institute ONLY WON 3 Iron Bowls in the 1990s; however, immediately following our years of turmoil in terms of coaching changes every 2-3 years, NCAA sanctions, and injuries galore, THE Alabama Polytechnic Institute suddenly wins six* consecutive Iron Bowls, having the AUdacity to rub it in our face, while all the other teams won with class.

Reason 2) Knowing that you guys evolve around The University’s every step is one thing, but knowing you worship your coach for beating us six* consecutive times, without knowing what it took for him to cross that milestone of glory is another. You worship him for defeating Alabama six* consecutive times, during the worst period in the history of their long-storied program, while other teams such as LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Louisiana-Monroe, UCF, Hawai’i, and Northern Illinois was defeating us as well.

You worship a mediocre coach who took advantage of our weakened state to attain above average status. Don’t believe me? Is it ironic outside of his most successful years (which were IRONICALLY ENOUGH our worst), his overall record is 35-32 and his overall record in CONFERENCE PLAY IS 16-31!

Talk about being delusional… Simply amazing, Barnies!

by TaylorTot on Nov 28, 2008 9:34 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

But then again...

It is expected coming from fans of the “stepchild” institute of the state (who are mainly known as the ugly little redheaded stepchildren of the state), who will forever suffer from Napoleon’s Syndrome, simply because their entire backwoods college and program is forced to operate in the dark, unBEARable shadow that The University casts over them.

Talk about it being great to be an Alabama-Tech Cowgirl! LMAO!

by TaylorTot on Nov 28, 2008 9:38 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Define "beatdown".

I do not understand what you mean by this word. I know what I think it means. A beatdown is a soul-destroying humiliation at the hands of a vastly superior team. Last year’s Black Out game comes to mind as does this season’s unfortunate encounter with that also-ran team from the Big Least conference. Those were beatdowns, my friend.

Tell me please, without going back to the first term of the Nixon Administration, the last time Auburn “beat down” Alabama. The scores all look pretty close to me. We may not always win, present season excepted of course, but nobody, nobody, beats down the Tide. Take it to the bank.

I have followed, and respected, Auburn football for too many years to expect tomorrow’s dust up at BDS to be a beatdown for either team, but The Streak will end. Deal with it. As it fades into history, are we going to be treated to wistful reminiscences of those six golden years when Auburn “beat down” Alabama? It is you, the AU fanbase, not us, who are delusional. It makes me sad for you.

You guys seriously need some medication. If you think that this season has revolved around beating the “lowly” Allburnt Tigers, you have something else coming. Nobody is acting the way you say they are over at RBR. You made this post so there is at least a little something to feel good about even after Bama floors you on the way to the SECCG that you was thought to be at. Can’t wait to see the look on your seniors pitiful faces when they look up at the scoreboard and realize there is no chance for wonderful number “7.” I hope they cry and cheat to try to win the game to show just how desperate they are. I know people say that when it comes to rivalries that the records don’t matter. Well, that is true in most cases, but when one team is vastly inferior and have nothing to hope for except to beat “one” team that is on their schedule every year is to me what you call mad and delusional. Face it, we have a coach that can take what you say is less talent than what you have and absolutely beat you down with it. Cry me a handful. Maybe next year “Tiger”

by AlltheGreats on Nov 28, 2008 11:59 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wow

I almost don’t know what to say…wait a minute, that was me playing ‘delusional’. RBR may get more hits, but that is because they are TMZ want to be’s; some people may be confused. We are having a horrible season. No one is going to deny that. But this awful season is likely a fluke. Much can be said about the Tide’s very good season, but that may very well be a fluke too. What is not, is the fact that Tubbs owns Bryant Denny Stadium. It might as well be a home game for us. Saban can talk back and forth about how all of that doesn’t matter. But tell that to the Seniors who will be playing on both sides. They have all been there and they know. Keep overlooking us on your way to the SECCG. Any one who follows this rivalry knows that you can toss the records out the door. Anything can happen in this game. It is part of what fuels the rivalry and makes it taste so good when you win.

I am glad you bammers come over here. Must be hard at your site when there is not much football to talk about.

Umm

Yeah, you guys have had a good season. Congrats. But you will be breaking in a new spangley quarterback next year. Everyone would say that the SEC as a whole is not functioning on all cylinders (see LSU and Tenn, and what the heck, Georgia), so yes, it could be that Bama’s season was a fluke. Could be that you are back for real. The current season is out of line with what the program has been capable of for the last decade…as is Auburn’s season.
We shall see what happens tomorrow. Your overconfidence may come to bite you in the arse. WAR EAGLE!

Sort of like your season in 2004?

When the only decent team you played was LSU and you had to cheat to defeat them by 1 point?

by TaylorTot on Nov 28, 2008 9:43 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ironically enough, of all the SEC teams The Alabama Polytechnic Institute defeated in 2004, only THREE had winning records (while LSU was the only other team in the West which had a winning record as well which, again, YOU CHEATED TO DEFEAT BY 1 POINT). We’ve defeated FOUR teams with winning records this year, so obviously your miraculous undefeated season in 2004, with a senior-led offense, wasn’t much better than our current one is, now is it?

How about 38 all time wins overall?

Would that qualify as “living in the past.” Last I recall, it was us who owned you 8 out of 12 times, prior to our downfall, which can be credited to your current six* game win streak over The University.

by TaylorTot on Nov 28, 2008 9:42 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

what did you say Jay?

Alabama already owns a 9 game streak against AU? That’s what I thought you said.

I can’t wait to see your excuses for the loss in the coming week. And I also can’t wait to see more posts about how “Florida is going to kill Alabama!”

At least if we win out we will go to the BCS Championship, which is more than you guys could manage a few years back.

Dear Tot

Thanks for stopping in. This isn’t RBR. We don’t give a shit about Queer Eye or what is going on on Chelsea Lately. So, I understand how you might think that being factose intolerant is a virtue.

Tubbs SEC record (since at Auburn (1999, in case you are already stumped), excluding SEC Championships and including this year) is 51-28. College Football Data Warehouse, know it, love it, bookmark it.

Additionally, since clearly you need to be reminded: in 2004, LSU was defending Mythical National Champions. Also, an LSU player (Ronnie Prude) committed a personal foul, which resulted in Vaughn’s second successful field goal attempt, resulting in the winning point in question. In your mind, if that is cheating, you have a questionable fantasy life.

So Tot, do you like ketchup as your name suggests, or are you a mustard fellow?
