War Eagle!

Happy Game Day! When I have been saying this week that Auburn has a chance to beat Bama, I have been getting some strange looks. Granted hunting is more coveted than football, by every measure. But the most common comment that I get back is “Isn’t Alabama #1 in the Nation?”. So what? You don’t quit before you get there, because Bama is #1. If the AU Defense can crunch the holes and avoid allowing big plays, at the same time that the AU Offense capitalizes on visits the red zone, we have more than a shot baby.

It ain't over...

….till it’s over. I remember sitting in the kitchen, many years ago, kind of half listening to the Iron Bowl on the radio (it wasn’t on TV), and putting together one of those plastic Revel models. Bama was undefeated, and we Tigers had no chance, or so the experts said:

If that doesn't get you ready,

I don’t know what will. Thanks for the reminder; it will help keep things in perspective today. The pecans are almost roasted; is it game time yet???

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 10:56 AM CST up reply actions

Mmmm....

…..roasted pecans! I’m counting on turkey sandwiches, and chex mix, today. Made both yesterday, while watching the wheels come off the LSU season.

I got started

,,,,with Bloody Mary’s while smoking a Boston Butt. I’ll be switching to beer real soon,

And since the Bama folk so despised my eggnog recipe...

Acid Reign’s Chex Mix

You need:
2 baking pans
1 bowl
1 whisk
1½ sticks of melted butter (margarine, or worse substitutes, will RUIN this recipe!)
¼ cup of Worcestershire sauce (NOT Lea and Perrin’s. French’s or Heinz!)
3 tsp. of Lawry’s season salt
3 garlic buds, minced
1/4 of an onion, minced
4 cups of Corn Chex
4 cups of Rice Chex
4 handfuls of pretzel sticks

Directions:

In a bowl, heat butter in microwave for 1 minute and 10 seconds on full power.
Mix in Worcestershire sauce, season salt, minced garlic and onion in with butter, Mix with whisk.
In each pan, mix Corn Chex, Rice Chex, pretzel sticks, and half the butter/spice mix.
Bake in the oven at 250°F for 1 hour, stirring every 15 min.

That kid in the picture above...

…looks like the spawn of Eli Gold…

Back in my days of being in Apha Nu Gamma (Alabama National Guard), we’d come into the office and there would be some Bammers listening to one of their games on the radio, waiting for their F-16 to come back, (Air Guard) and we’d hear old Eli, and it was required for Barners to ask “who’s winning the race”, or “I didn’t know they raced on Saturdays…”

by War Eagle Atlanta on Nov 29, 2008 11:17 AM CST reply actions

The Bama guys...

…..would also have to ask the score, too, I’ll bet! Eli and Co. can go 30 minutes of a low scoring game, without announcing the score, or where the clock is…

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 11:19 AM CST up reply actions

Georgia Bulldogs...

…..have just VICTIMIZED Tech’s D, so far. We got an excellent demonstration of why Rhodes was reluctant to go man-to-man against Green and Massaquoi… Tech’s corner, #1, got burnt twice.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 11:21 AM CST reply actions

Clemson

is up early over South Carolina. And what’s his face #7, almost threw a pick.

I get to watch the game today on an actual television…not through the internet. This is assuming that the Montana Grizz v. Texas St. play off game won’t be televised on KPAX (local CBS).

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 11:51 AM CST reply actions

That's great!

…..I’m wondering if the kickoff will be late, OR, if CBS will run the UGA/GT game over, and miss part of the Iron Bowl. That would bite…

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 11:53 AM CST up reply actions

They allotted...

3.5 hours for the Georgia game, so hopefully it won’t run over that…

by War Eagle Atlanta on Nov 29, 2008 12:55 PM CST up reply actions

I am thinking

that we may escape that unfortunate turn of scheduling events. Right now on our CBS station there is the Chase Stock Roughneck rodeo championship of some sort..no UGA game for us. Hopefully that means that the Iron Bowl will commence as planned out here. How weird would that be??

Your chex mix recipe reminds me of my Nana’s :)

Does anyone else think

that it is a little rude that there was a “leak” that Lane Kiffin will be named the next Vols coach, days before ’Philip Furmer Appreciation Day"? What a slap in the face.

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 12:37 PM CST reply actions

Kiffin's a strange...

…..hire, in any event. Yep, UT coaches in my lifetime tend to get a rude bye-bye. Bill Battle was a good coach, with a winning record, and he got unceremoniously dumped in the mid-70s for Johnny-come-lately Majors, who had won a National Title at Pitt, a couple of years before. Then, of course, Majors was supposedly “stabbed in the back,” by Phillip Fulmer, who took over the job while Majors was undergoing heart surgery. Now, the new coach is announced the day before Fulmer Appreciation Day. Go Vols.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 12:43 PM CST up reply actions

Sylvester Croom out at Miss State...

It just came across the ticker on television. I’m a little surprised.

Jay Coulter

by Jay Coulter on Nov 29, 2008 12:46 PM CST reply actions

Kiffin...

…..has NO college head-coaching experience, and is being thrown into the SEC fire in a division with Mark Richt, Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier, and Bobby Johnson. It’s a tall order…

…..One speculation I heard last night, was that Lane Kiffin would bring his dad Monte Kiffin, in from the Tampa Bay Bucs, to run the defense. That would be a good move. Kiffin has done a good job with the Bucs. The other item was that Kiffin and Ed Orgeron are buddies, and that coach O would be back in the SEC. That would help Vol recruiting, for sure!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 12:47 PM CST reply actions

I have had some

of the same thoughts. Coach O would help him surf the SEC, but I think that he needs more SEC people if he wants to transition smoothly.

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 12:50 PM CST up reply actions

Croom out...

…..that’s rough. I can see it, though. The Bulldogs got BOMBED, in the Egg Bowl.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 12:48 PM CST reply actions

If Croom can't win in Starkville,

….who can? I wonder if loyalty to offensive coaches, especially Woody McCorvey, was a factor?

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 12:49 PM CST reply actions

Did the administration...

….feel that the Bulldogs would never move the ball, if Croom stuck with McCorvey’s West Coast scheme?

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 12:50 PM CST up reply actions

No kidding.

I always thought that Croom got the shaft in the UA head coach search. What is MSU thinking?

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 12:52 PM CST up reply actions

I've been...

…..hunting all morning! I thought about photographing an old T-shirt, that says “the time has come, beat Bama!” It has a cartoon of a dead elephant, and a tiger with bloody claws on top. The shirt’s too old and faded, though. I wore it to work for the 1982 Iron Bowl.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 12:56 PM CST reply actions

Did you all see CBS at Halftime?

Brando said that Saban admitted yesterday to spending a few days this week looking at Florida tapes. Let’s hope the team is equally arrogant.

Jay Coulter

by Jay Coulter on Nov 29, 2008 1:02 PM CST reply actions

Let's hope!

…..They said that, then they dogged Kodi Burns.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:03 PM CST up reply actions

On GameDay this morning,

they kept talking about how Saban had his team on ‘razor sharp focus on this game’. Usually that doesn’t include looking at tape for a team that you play next week.

South Carolina just scored a TD, maybe the second half won’t be the Clemson Show Part II…..

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 1:08 PM CST up reply actions

And....

……it will be even more delicious to beat those scumbags if Danielson and Co. are preaching the Saban gospel, like I think they might.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:07 PM CST up reply actions

I'm pulling for Georgia and the SEC...

…..but I do like seeing some good old-timey option football! Tech just beat UGA badly on the corner, on an option-pitch!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:11 PM CST reply actions

Wow,

looks like the Dawgs are allowing them to stay in the game……

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 1:14 PM CST reply actions

Yeah,

…..but the UGA receivers are just ABUSING the tech receivers when Tech goes cover-one. As long as Stafford doesn’t fold, UGA might score 50.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:15 PM CST reply actions

Ooops.

….Tech corners, getting abused.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:15 PM CST up reply actions

UGA goes...

…..3 and out, and Stafford panicked under the safety blitz. Nearly gave up a safety!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:17 PM CST reply actions

It is saying

on the ESPN ticker that Croom resigned, but y’alls feeling is that the Admin dictated the resignation?

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 1:18 PM CST reply actions

Don't know.

…..al.com’s breaking news feed says that the university will make an official statement shortly.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:19 PM CST reply actions

Thanks

for the link. I guess it was his decision. I always pulled for him to succeed there.

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 1:23 PM CST up reply actions

I was wondering if...

…..Tuscaloosa is as fog shrouded as Birmingham is. And it’s MUDDY, outside. Rained all night, I think.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:22 PM CST reply actions

OOHHH

Kind of reminds me of 2000. Messy, but we pulled it out in the end.

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 1:25 PM CST reply actions

It's MUCH...

…..warmer, though. And no rain, at least right now. 57 here in the Tragic City.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:27 PM CST reply actions

OK

off to walk the BearDog, before the game. We have PBR’s, roasted pecans, and I have enough Auburn Spirit for everyone that I am watching the game with! WAR DAMN EAGLE!

by Tiger on the mountain on Nov 29, 2008 1:29 PM CST reply actions

UGA...

…..is letting it slip away. Tech has tied it at 28-all, from a 28-12 halftime deficit. That option is wearing on them, methinks. That, and the Bulldog penchant for penalties. Georgia is loading up on those, once again.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:32 PM CST reply actions

Meltdown!

…..Samuel coughs it up on the kickoff return, Tech’s ball. Dang.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:35 PM CST reply actions

Time for Stafford...

…..to get back on track. Midway through the 3rd quarter, Ga. Tech leads Georgia, 35-28.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:36 PM CST reply actions

The Dawgs...

…..are going to HAVE to bring the strong safety up, and put him on the QB, Nesbitt. They’ve got to get Curran out on Dwyer. Dwyer is eating UGA DBs UP.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 1:39 PM CST reply actions

Officially signing off

now…Thanks for the updates on the UGA game! In order to keep the peace with Mr. Tohm..there shall be no blogging during the game (what we do for love or at least peace within a marriage).

I am so excited that kick off is less than 45 minutes away. I had some commentary on Scarbinksy’s article this week…but that will wait til later I guess. War EAGLE! See you on the flip!

Latest news from Tuscaloosa...

……Chris Slaughter is nowhere to be seen in warmups. May be gone for good. Just what we needed, against a good Bama secondary.

Weather Report...

…..After a quick run to the Vestavia ABC Store, it’s VERY foggy on top of Shades Mountain, and misting rain. More to the game situation, reports from Tuscaloosa indicate much of the same in T-Town.

Stafford struggling...

…..but Paul Johnson’s wishbone-like offense sat on it too soon. A line-drive punt, and Knowshon Moreno breaks out on a Heisman-like run, and UGA is within 3, 38-35, still with 10:23 left.

…..I don’t think this game will be over before 2:30…

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 2:20 PM CST reply actions

On 3rd and 7

UGA gives up a LOOONG option pitch to the short side, for a TD. After the point, Tech leads, 45-35, with 7:13 left.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 2:26 PM CST reply actions

Willie Martinez...

…..may be looking for a job, after UGA’s defense has disappeared in a number of games, this year. Tech has 33 second half points, and it’s not over yet…

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 2:27 PM CST reply actions

Stafford...

……nearly forced a pick. Not a wise throw. If Tech comes up with that bouncing thing, it’s over.,

New set of Bama downs,

from the AU 40, Coffee will break about 5 tackles, and go the distance. TD Alabama.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:37 PM CST reply actions

That was run right over Goggins,

….and Marks. Craig Stevens with the whiff, Zack Etheridge with the soft hands.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:38 PM CST reply actions

Not Stevens,

……Evans. Auburn trails, 10-0, with 10:28 left in the 2nd quarter.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:39 PM CST reply actions

I really hate those announcers.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:40 PM CST reply actions

I was thinking about...

…..going with the radio, but ISP sports has a ridiculous delay.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:41 PM CST reply actions

The kick,

…..to Fannin, he’s KO’ed by the first man.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:41 PM CST reply actions

We're just...

…..running right at the first man down, and falling, on returns.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:41 PM CST reply actions

Tigers at their own

….24. 3 wide, under center. Stretch, and Arenas sweeps his legs out for a short gain.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:42 PM CST reply actions

Why do we insist on trying to go outside with Tate?

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:43 PM CST reply actions

Tate got 3

……2nd and 7 shotgun. Blitz, throws way short to Smith, good coverage, too.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:43 PM CST reply actions

3rd and 7

……SHotgun. Blitz coming. corner picked up, but not the safety up the middle. Burns sacked.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:44 PM CST reply actions

Durst in.

…..Nearly blocked, they trip Durst, but late. 52 yard boomer, Arenas contained after 6.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:44 PM CST reply actions

and no flag on the hit

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:45 PM CST reply actions

that hit would never go our way

I know, but a man can hope.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:46 PM CST reply actions

Bama in business again.

…..They’ll go 1st and 10 against a tiring AU defense, from the Bama 38. I can understand the no call. Durst stood there with his leg in the air a long time, and I think the Bama guy was pushed into him.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:46 PM CST reply actions

Wilson

……lines up up on 1st down. 8:42 left in the half. Empty backfield. Wilson overthrows Jones, well covered.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:47 PM CST reply actions

It was the right call, but i’ve seen it be called before. You honstly never know with the zebras sometimes

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:47 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 10

……Conventional set. Counter, Coffee picks up an effortless 18. Pulling guard, tight end, didn’t even have to hit anybody.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:48 PM CST reply actions

Here’s where they start going for the throat.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:48 PM CST reply actions

New set of Bama downs.

…..AU 48, bootleg, Nick Walker on a short toss, near another first down.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:48 PM CST reply actions

2nd and short

…..Toss, hit behind the line, butCoffee won’t go down, Goggins holds him just a little short of the first.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:49 PM CST reply actions

3rd and inches.

……Jumbo set, Motion Bama, but they call Marks? No! False start!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:50 PM CST reply actions

Wow, even when we have it set up….we can’t get it done.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:50 PM CST reply actions

I just want everyone on this board to know...

I’m at watching the game with my auburn fiance’s family wearing orange and blue…with my LSU visor. Geaux Tigers!

by LSU Jonno on Nov 29, 2008 3:50 PM CST reply actions

That will bring up 3rd and 6.

……Wilson will operate from the shotgun. time, throws underneath, Powers, breaks it up!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:51 PM CST reply actions

A punt,

…..and Dunn will take it from the 11, and trip over the 20 yard line.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:52 PM CST reply actions

and the grass makes the tackle, nice try though.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:52 PM CST reply actions

Powers and Julio Joness....

……are having a heck of a battle. Jones got one key first down on soft coverage, but Powers has knocked several away beautifully!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:53 PM CST reply actions

Time for Auburn to GET SOMETHING DONE,

…..on offense. Pick up those blitzes. Bama is bringing a LOT of players.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:53 PM CST reply actions

1st and 10...

……Auburn in the I. Up the gut to Tate, got about 3.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:54 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 7

……We go shotgun. Fannin in. Bama showing blitz. Keeper, got a yard.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:55 PM CST reply actions

Shotgun bunch

……Over the middle, too high for Billings, would have been a first.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:56 PM CST reply actions

Durst back in again.

……Low kick, out at the 31! Good kick, no return, 46 yards.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:56 PM CST reply actions

Well, hope we can make it to the lockers without any more bama points.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 3:56 PM CST reply actions

Bama has the ball,

with about 4 minutes left in the half. Time to lean on that D. We need a turnover, or even defensive points!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:57 PM CST reply actions

We have GOT to get that ball out better,

…..when they bring seven. A jailbreak screen would be good, but we won’t have time to run that in the first half.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:58 PM CST reply actions

Wilson brings 'em out.

……3 wide. Short side handoff to Ingram, Hood holds it to a yard.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:59 PM CST reply actions

Or 3.

…..Spot? Bama up in the shotgun. Inside, Bynes with the pop, no gain!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 3:59 PM CST reply actions

3rd and long, Bama.

……Empty backfield. Wilson, is SACKED, Zach Clayton!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:00 PM CST reply actions

Now that looks a whole lot better. Lets at least get some yards to gain a little mo

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:01 PM CST reply actions

Dunn back.

……Fitzgerald will whack it good!Fair catch by Dunn at the AU 27. 2:19, and it’s time for CBS to pay some more bills.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:01 PM CST reply actions

Or not.

……1 back set, Lester! Burns on the fake/boot, hit, Fanney can’t get him down, and Burns scrambles for positive yardage!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:02 PM CST reply actions

I set

….on 2nd and 3, handoff Lester, 1st down!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:02 PM CST reply actions

1st and 10

…..from the 41. Burns on the out, thrown behind Dunn, dropped.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:03 PM CST reply actions

Thats what i’ve been waiting to see, Davis as fullback…..wonder why its happening now.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:03 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 10

…..1:14 left. Shotgun. QB draw! 1st down, beat the blitz!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:04 PM CST reply actions

Throw...

….to Rod Smith on the stop, andother 1st down!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:04 PM CST reply actions

From the Bama 33,

Keeper to the Bama 29. Timeout Auburn, 2nd and 6, 44 seconds left!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:04 PM CST reply actions

Bama has been caught blitzing, an

and Burns has found the hole, a couple of times.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:05 PM CST reply actions

Both sides trying to regroup,

……Auburn’s into scoring position, in Bama land. Saban WILL blitz. Burns CAN’T take a sack!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:06 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 6

…..Shotgun. Roll, Throws short, at the 24, to Derrick Winter.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:06 PM CST reply actions

3rd and 3

….Draw, only a yard. Timeout.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:07 PM CST reply actions

Five seconds....

……and it will be a 4th down. Hull will have about a 42 yard attempt, coming up. Wet ball, wet grass, but no wind.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:07 PM CST reply actions

And there’s that conservative call….could have taken a shot and then called TO…

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:08 PM CST reply actions

His mom ...

know he’s out there?? LOL

Ever wonder why God painted a beautiful sky blue and a breathtaking sunset orange?

by Tigerz on Nov 29, 2008 4:09 PM CST reply actions

Hull in.

……it’s a 40 yarder. It’s RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE! But, timeout Saban, just before the snap. Wow.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:09 PM CST reply actions

So....

……Hull will have to try again. How many more TOs does BAma have?

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:10 PM CST reply actions

Ouch

… that hurt

Ever wonder why God painted a beautiful sky blue and a breathtaking sunset orange?

by Tigerz on Nov 29, 2008 4:10 PM CST reply actions

Nice strategy.

…..The hold was slow, and a low kick.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:11 PM CST reply actions

I really hate that expitive call…..its freaking stupid and just wastes time.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:11 PM CST reply actions

Burns is 5-14 ...

… not all of that is dropped balls!

Ever wonder why God painted a beautiful sky blue and a breathtaking sunset orange?

by Tigerz on Nov 29, 2008 4:12 PM CST reply actions

Well, it's legal, right now.

……It was perfectly timed. But that timeout didn’t do it. It was a failure on the snap, hold, and timing.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:12 PM CST reply actions

When that call Saban made...

…..looks stupid, is when the kicker misses, and on the second chance, makes it. It’s a dice roll, either way. When you’re playing someone with inconsistent special teams, it’s a good call. Bama had nothing to lose. Good strategy.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:14 PM CST reply actions

Tequilla break....

……We’ll be back after the half! War Eagle, Everyone! Never give up!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:14 PM CST reply actions

I know, but its just plain stupid. Here we’re having the SEC board change rules around because they say games are “too long” blah blah blah when we already get a buttload of commercials anyway…..so now the game is shorter and we get more commercials….why don’t they get rid of that freaking call?

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:15 PM CST reply actions

HaHa....

Number one team in the nation gettin scared of a undersized auburn team tryin to be like FL with the kicker freeze.. I say put Fannin in the back of the eye and lets get this thing rollin in the second half!! War Eagle! we can get this done!

by AubDragon on Nov 29, 2008 4:17 PM CST reply actions

I hate the call, too.

I still like our chances,,,,,,,,

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:17 PM CST reply actions

Why do we run Tate to the outside? I dont get it.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:19 PM CST reply actions

It just really burns me, even if it’s a game where I don’t really care about the outcome. You get set up…..time out. Now we’re got 5 mins worth of commercials to watch….then watch the set up again. Most of the time it doesn’t even have an affect on the kicker….

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:19 PM CST reply actions

I already mentioned that earlier James….I don’t get it either.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:20 PM CST reply actions

If we are going to run to the outside, we have got to have more speed than Tate. Run fanin or Lester to the outside and pound Tate up the middle.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:22 PM CST reply actions

The strategy matchup....

……that is killing us, is when we get into long yardage. Most of the time, Saban/Steele is sending seven guys. We have six blockers, 5 linemen and a back. We’re mostly getting everyone picked up, too. Burns, on that last drive, did a LOT better job figuring out where that unblocked guy was, and making him miss. Intermediate routes are open, but we’re going to have to do a pump fake, and some double moves or combo routes. Bama is jumping the hot stuff.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:23 PM CST reply actions

Heck,,,,pound Fannin up the middle too.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:23 PM CST reply actions

And what's up with not running Lester?

Last year he was money in the bank up the middle.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:24 PM CST reply actions

Secondary on D is holding up quite well. Definately in the game but we got to get into a rhythym whether it be in the spread or power. Definately time for a screen to fannin or Lester what ya think?!

by AubDragon on Nov 29, 2008 4:25 PM CST reply actions

We HAVE had better success up the middle,

….that I would have thought. Bama’s linebackers are playing read and react, and are closing it down before it picks up too much, though. If we go run heavy, they’ll tighten up. They’ll give us three or four, on an occasional run down. We need to make ’em pay, on those blitzes!

…..Kodi needs to thow more accurately, too. I’m sure it’s difficult, in the mist, with wet balls. I KNEW, early in the week, that a rain forecast wasn’t favorable to us.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:25 PM CST reply actions

Shockingly,

…..both Auburn lines are playing pretty well. I’d like more pressure on Wilson, but it hasn’t been bad. Wilson has let it go pretty quickly, most passes. Our heel, right now, is linebackers, and safety run support. Expect Bama to pound it some more.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:27 PM CST reply actions

Receivers

have got to hold onto the ball,,,,,,when thrown to. That has plagued us all year.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:28 PM CST reply actions

I wouldn't expect Bama...

…..to change much, on D. We need some HELP, out of our special teams.Bama is only averaging 19 yards per kick return, we need a mistake on this kickoff. A fumble. Pinned deep. Something. We can’t let ARenas get out, for sure!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:29 PM CST reply actions

I really wish ole number 10 was still out there…..A. Cause he’s good…..and B. cause he’s from my hometown. We need someone to fill that hole in the middle. Bynes is doing a good job, but we need someone to lower the boom.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:29 PM CST reply actions

agreed,,,,

need a big time speacial teams play.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:29 PM CST reply actions

Blackmon....

…..has a way of making backs run laterally. When they don’t, they get pounded!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:30 PM CST reply actions

Trust me Acid….I know, I watched him at every HS game in LaGrange…..he doesn’t mess around.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:31 PM CST reply actions

We've GOT to be more...

…..physical at linebacker, next year. I think they spent too much of the pre-season chasing slot receivers and tight ends.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:31 PM CST reply actions

we need that big time hit

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:31 PM CST reply actions

we need a break to get our peeps in the stands fired up dangit and get our offensive to put more into it.. and has anysone got the feeling that tubbs looks more relaxed today than he has in awhile?!?!

by AubDragon on Nov 29, 2008 4:32 PM CST reply actions

Well if Blackmon comes back, and I think he will…..we’ll have him and Eltorro Freeman….can’t get much more physical than that…

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:32 PM CST reply actions

Would be great!

……The real story, this year, is who has NOT been on the field, for Auburn.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:33 PM CST up reply actions

Yep,,,agree Tubs looks relaxed.

Marks says Blackmon will be back.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:33 PM CST reply actions

Hull to kick,

…..the ever dangerous Javier Arenas back. The kick is DEEP, out of the Endzone!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:34 PM CST reply actions

nice kick off,,,,,,Arenas had no chance on it.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:34 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, I saw that James….But the guys got 3 kids I think now? He’s got a lot to think about….though I do think that the big picture will lead to him coming back and then hitting the NFL.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:34 PM CST reply actions

Bama lines it up at the 20

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:36 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 5

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:38 PM CST reply actions

So I think,

…..it will be 3rd and 5, again.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:38 PM CST reply actions

Can someone tell me why that was just the fourth or fifth time we’ve pressured john sarah jessica parker wilson?

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 4:39 PM CST reply actions

Bynes had a chance to plant Wilson and let up on him. Gotta finish it off.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 4:39 PM CST reply actions

what is going on with our guys?

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 4:55 PM CST reply actions

3rd and long,

…….it would be nice to hold ’em here! Wilson screens to Ingram, we just let him go for 27.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:55 PM CST reply actions

No pursuit...

…..from the back seven on 3rd and long.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:55 PM CST reply actions

Why haven’t we seen a screen like that? With all this pressure we’ve been getting?

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 4:56 PM CST reply actions

this is what bugs me the most. losing sucks, but it is nothing compared to playing without heart. they are just flat. they have accepted their role and they are done.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 4:56 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 8

…..Under center. Ingram dives for two more on a back cut.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:56 PM CST reply actions

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 4:57 PM CST reply actions

…..like Auburn should be running. Powers rubbed off on the jam.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:57 PM CST reply actions

Julio Jones

… is a prob that’s only going to get worse in the years to come … he’s the most impressive weapon they have on the field

Ever wonder why God painted a beautiful sky blue and a breathtaking sunset orange?

by Tigerz on Nov 29, 2008 4:57 PM CST reply actions

but he is the only athlete they have on par with any of florida’s weapons. he is the only one, so containing him will be easier.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 4:58 PM CST reply actions

bama's lead...

….has reached blow-out proportions.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:58 PM CST reply actions

come on guys … play with some PRIDE!!!

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 4:59 PM CST reply actions

Empty backfield,

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 4:59 PM CST reply actions

i hate seeing our guys roll over. come on. we just can’t leave this game without scoring.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:00 PM CST reply actions

It's worth noting...

…..Barfield’s last 4 teams, in the Iron Bowl, scored 21, 16, 18, and 18. We are a long way from that.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:00 PM CST reply actions

I agree,,,,,,we cannot get shut out

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 5:01 PM CST reply actions

Tiffin to kick...

…..it’s a squbb, no one fields it, till Fannin, way back inside the 10. Backed up, again. Should have gone out of bounds, didn’t bounce our way. That’s the way it’s gone.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:02 PM CST reply actions

rolling over and quitting is easy. gutting it out is hard.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:02 PM CST reply actions

Auburn at the 15

…..Shotugn, option for a yard. Against a Bama blitz, natch.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:03 PM CST reply actions

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:03 PM CST reply actions

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:04 PM CST reply actions

Durst in to punt...

…..It’s to Arenas at the 34, all the way out to the 50. If Harden doesn’t hold on, that’s six.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:08 PM CST reply actions

1st and 10

…..Bama on the move in Tiger land. 1 back, up the gut, let him out again. Poor linebacker tackling.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:08 PM CST reply actions

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:11 PM CST reply actions

how many days until the next football season?

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:12 PM CST reply actions

We've still got...

…..more than a quarter to play. Tub needs to dig in. Croom got forced out, when Ole Miss blew them out, and the team quit. We can’t quit, here!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:12 PM CST reply actions

bammer is going to run the score up as high as they can

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:13 PM CST reply actions

But……….so will Meyer……

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:13 PM CST reply actions

And now we go back to that crap…..game over.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:15 PM CST reply actions

the play calling here sucks.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:15 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 18

…..Shotgun, two backs. can’t block a three man rush, misses a wide-open screen pass.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:15 PM CST reply actions

they just aren’t focused

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:15 PM CST reply actions

I don’t think I can watch the rest of this.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:16 PM CST reply actions

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:17 PM CST reply actions

He didn’t cross the line……even if he did the rule is the whole body has to cross….

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:17 PM CST reply actions

Bama will operate,

….with a big 29-0 lead, 50 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Up the middle, Clayton holds it to a yard.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:17 PM CST reply actions

Not that it would have mattered….

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:18 PM CST reply actions

Not good ...

we’ve just got to start scoring … right now this is worse than my first year at AU in ’75 (0-28)

they need to get nasty with JPW

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:18 PM CST reply actions

2nd and 9

…..Bama will keep it simple. Up the middle, for 3. The third quarter mercifully comes to an end, with Bama leading 29-0.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:18 PM CST reply actions

Two Tiger giveaways,

……Defense hands out three touchdowns in the third. Total Tiger collapse.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:19 PM CST reply actions

1973 was worse ...

well reguardless of this game i will still be in my Orange and Blue with my head up at work on Monday ready to take on all the crap from the bammers lets hope we can get some points up there..

by AubDragon on Nov 29, 2008 5:19 PM CST reply actions

I think...

…..the JP Wilson bashing opportunities are over. They’re going to keep pounding.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:20 PM CST reply actions

It doesn’t matter if they put JPW in a coffin….besides that it would shut his big mouth. But at this point they are just going to pound it out, and even if they didn’t Mcelroy can do just as good as that tool.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:20 PM CST reply actions

Bammers are going to be crowing long and loud on Monday.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 5:21 PM CST reply actions

by Tigerz on Nov 29, 2008 5:21 PM CST reply actions

The worst Auburn loss...

…..in my lifetime, was when I was two years old, in 1962, 38-0. We’re in danger of losing bigger, today. Can Tuberville survive that?

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:21 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, and Urban will be smiling. Cause he knows its going to get him in the BCS champ game.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:22 PM CST reply actions

well we did have an O-Coordinator back then :-p

by AubDragon on Nov 29, 2008 5:22 PM CST reply actions

I sure hope so … Tuberville is a class act

Ever wonder why God painted a beautiful sky blue and a breathtaking sunset orange?

by Tigerz on Nov 29, 2008 5:22 PM CST reply actions

Next year,

…..we’ve GOT to tackle, at linebacker. We knew the offense was a mess. Linebacker tackling is a complete mystery, why we’re this bad.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:22 PM CST reply actions

Wilson throws way high,

…..on the hitch, and we manage to make ’em punt!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:23 PM CST reply actions

Dunn back,

…..to field Fitzgerald’s punt. shanked, rolls out WAY short. Saban is GIVING IT, to the punter!

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:24 PM CST reply actions

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:27 PM CST reply actions

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:29 PM CST reply actions

it’s been a while since I said it, so, I HATE ALABAMA

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:30 PM CST reply actions

I really hated us to go down this way. We really have taken a huge leap backward this year.

On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?

1st and 10,

shotgun, the dump to Fannin, fumbles, ball bouncing around, I think Swinton came up with it onBama’s side of the field.

What did I say? Srew it up!!!!

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:44 PM CST reply actions

No,

…..Swinton not tough enough. Rashad Johnson takes it away from him in the pile.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:44 PM CST reply actions

looks like Fannin is hurt

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 5:45 PM CST reply actions

i said it before, and i’m going to say it again:

No discipline
No focus
No heart
No pride.

That is not all attributable to Franklin.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:45 PM CST reply actions

i think franklin could have atleast come out with some points

by AubDragon on Nov 29, 2008 5:45 PM CST reply actions

my eyes are hurt … from watching this game.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 5:46 PM CST reply actions

It's pretty dismal,

….right now. We’ve really come apart, in the 2nd half. Can’t do that against a good team.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:46 PM CST reply actions

Franklin broke the team … their spirit … it will take time to recover

…..The give, Upchurch, another easy first down outside.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 5:47 PM CST reply actions

Tuberville is SOLELY to blame for this debacle of a season.

Its HIS team not Franklins. Whos running the team. I say bring him back but this will not be allowed to happen again and if things start of bad next year well he may not even make it through the year.

On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 5:49 PM CST reply actions

we have been horrible in the second half all year. i agree that franklin broke their spirit but the coaches weren’t able to inspire any confidence in their ability to make things work and run right after he left.

Just can't...

…..keep handing them the ball. Had to make first downs. Didn’t. Made fumbles, drops, wore the defense out.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 6:01 PM CST reply actions

ok im gunna go take some agression out on World of Warcraft lmao.. I hope everyone just keeps their heads up and realizes you dont always stay on top so enjoy things til they come back around cause WE are AUBURN and it WILL come back around. War Eagle guys!

by AubDragon on Nov 29, 2008 6:02 PM CST reply actions

I didn’t think Tubbs was in trouble before now…..but I think his sit just got pretty darn hot.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 6:03 PM CST reply actions

WAR EAGLE

another season in the books. I hope Tubs is back next year. He is our best chance to recover from this disaster.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 6:03 PM CST reply actions

Yes, Tuberville should...

……get a pass. He’s won 7 out of 10 Iron Bowls. He deserves the chance to turn this mess, around.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 6:04 PM CST reply actions

He'll be on a short leash, though,

…..I suspect, next year. I’ve seen beleaguered coaches fire most of their staff, lay one more stinker year on, then get fired. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen, next year.

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 6:05 PM CST reply actions

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if he gets fired, I sure hope Auburn does wha tthey need to do to get a good coach.

by James4au on Nov 29, 2008 6:07 PM CST reply actions

He better get rid of the O staff…..I might even want Gran gone after the mistakes by the backs and the dumb Special teams plays.

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 6:07 PM CST reply actions

i agree with all you guys. keep tubby. lose the assistants.

i’d rather be a Tiger on the losing end of a 36-0 whooping than a Bammer any day.

WDE … lady out.

by ladyautiger on Nov 29, 2008 6:08 PM CST reply actions

Well….now all I have to look forward to is the smile on Urban’s face when he creams Nicky….and my old HS team winning their next playoff game. GO GRANGERS!!!

by weglweglwde on Nov 29, 2008 6:10 PM CST reply actions

I'm not sure...

…..Urban has it that easy. How many flags did Bama take? How many fumbles? How many picks? Blown coverages?

……I saw a team tonight, that doesn’t beat itself. Hats off to Bama, for the big win. They played good, disciplined ball, and won big. I think they give Florida a really good game. Gators better bring their best…

by Acid Reign on Nov 29, 2008 6:17 PM CST reply actions

Florida will have its work cut out for them

Bama plays very disciplined power football. The kind that gives Fla fits. I want Florida to destroy Bama but they may be in for a surprise….unfortunately.

On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?

by Col.Angus on Nov 29, 2008 6:31 PM CST reply actions

Learn a lesson from Ala.

If we get rid of Tubby they better have an EXCELLENT no brainer replacement that is committed to coming to Auburn BEFORE they fire Tubby. Firing Tubby on emotion this weekend would be REALLY dumb.

by Col.Angus on Nov 29, 2008 6:37 PM CST reply actions

First Post as a SB Nation Suscriber

I don’t think there’s a logical person out there to replace Tubs. Especially with all that buyout money to consider in the equation. Now if someone like Pete Caroll or Bob Stoops was available, then you might could get away with it. But Tubs has a great track record. He graduates STUDENT athletes. He runs a clean program. And he knows that this year was a bust because of his attempt at running the spread. Things should be better next year…..he’ll definately be on a short leash like Acid Reign said….but he has EARNED a mulligan
