Auburn vs. Bama Review-Laughter Required

Auburn vs. Alabama Review –

Well I figured the game was going to go one of two ways. Either we would keep it close or it was going to be a blowout. As you know by now the latter came true. I don’t think hardly any Auburn fans thought we had a chance to win, but many of us didn’t think the outcome would have been that one sided. Here is a review of the game and its elements.

1. Fans – I had to add this section. My mother went to her first iron bowl this year, in Tuscaloosa. She stated she wore her Auburn colors proud. She was shocked to find that she was given the bird several times and verbally harassed and threatened all day long by all types of Bama fans. Not by one or two choice fans but by several all day long where ever she went. The sad thing was no other bama fans stepped in to say otherwise. As an Auburn season ticket holder I try to accommodate opposing fans who are visiting. I will discuss the game with them, offer directions and even offer a cold beverage. It’s funny how Bama fans complain about how LSU fans treat them and then turn around and act the same way. Bama fans are the biggest kool aid drinkers around and they are by far the most obnoxious. No I am not talking about the lawyers, doctors and dentist crowd or the merlot drinkers. I am talking about the sleeve less; hounds tooth ball cap wearing, mullets that make up 80% of the fan base. I only say this to prove a point. Anytime you do something like that you have to think, would you want someone to act that way towards your mother. These are the type of fans that most opposing fans view as bama fans. As I have said before those types of fans are the kool aid drinkers. I just wish they would drink some Jonestown Kool aid with Jim Jones sometime. The world would be a better place.

2. Offense- Kodi Burns looked extremely off. Any progress we had seen went out the door. He looked lost. What was that play were he held onto the ball for like 40 minutes as the bama player sacked him for a loss. He missed wide receivers all day long. I was almost distraught enough to yell “Put in Chris Todd” then I remembered the first half of the season. The one thing Kodi does well is run the ball. We ran him on two series and never did it again. I was dumbfounded. The running backs were even worse; Ben Tate a north south runner ran east and west, again. Does Auburn’s coordinator lack a compass or is it short term memory loss. Then Fannin fumbled, Lester fumbled, Burns fumbled it seemed everyone fumbled.

The wide receivers were non-existent as well, who are we kidding they were down right terrible, as they have been all year long. Quick, name Auburn’s leading receiver…..yea…me neither. Our offense line didn’t play much better. Kodi was running for his life all day. I will say Senior Tyrone Green gave Bama’s Nose Guard Cody all he wanted. You did not hear Cody’s name much yesterday on defense. I think they used a new technique that involved laying Snickers Bars at the line of scrimmage to distract him. By the way did anybody see one trick play? I didn’t think so. Don’t you think at 5-7 against your rival who was #1 you would want to use everything you could. It seemed as if Auburn was operating off of a playbook that was missing 56 pages.

3. Defense – Ok before I get started I know that the offense put out defense in a bad position time and time again. However, we did not play good at all on defense. Tell me can you recall us ever getting pressure on their qb or how many tackles did we miss. The key to winning the last few iron bowls and beating bama has been getting to Sara Jessica Parker, which we did not do. Our all-SEC linemen were very quite and out of position all day. Our midget linebackers were oversized as Bama ran it right up the middle. Mike McNeil, I haven’t seen such a bad example of safety since the Exxon Valdez incident. He let everything get by him, whether it was by air or by land. Yes, our defense was down right terrible. We needed linebacker Tray Blackmon yesterday. He is one of the best in the SEC against the run. But he was too busy working the double shift at the Waffle House having to support his nine kids. The second half we didn’t stop Bama at all. Their punter changed back into his street clothes.

4. Special Teams – Well of course our regular kicker Wes Byrum did not play. In way it was a relief. However, the weight of the kicking tasks was put on a walk on kicker, Morgan Hull, who had never kicked in a real game before. Does that sound like a recipe for disaster or an after school special? Well it was a little of both. With the first half winding down, the tigers down by ten, Hull kicked what most thought was a momentum changing 40 yd field goal through the uprights. However, El Satan called a timeout to ice the kicker. Hull had to rekick it. Hull was like the guy who thinks his name was called to come down on the Price is Right only to find out he misheard the announcer. So he lined up again to make his mark on the rivalry, only to kick a line drive that would have decapitated a midget. It was blocked and the momentum of the game shifted back to Bama. He never saw the field again for a field goal attempt. Clinton Durst, our own little Rudy of a punter was by far the player of the game. You know it’s been a bad year and season when your punter is the highlight. He kept us in the game with his punts all day long. He helped our field position. You know it’s bad when the Auburn player of the game looks like the guy bagging your groceries. Hell, last year he probably was bagging your groceries.

All in all we should have known it was going to be a bad season. Now we don’t have to hold up seven fingers anymore. We can go back to the one finger that all bama fans deserve. I salute Bama and their coach and team. They have had a good season. They have a lot of reasons to be excited. So much so I created a list for them.

TOP TEN THINGS BAMA FANS HAVE NOT BEEN THIS EXCITED OVER:

  1. Bama fans have not been this excited since Spam was half off at Piggly Wiggly.
  2. Bama fans have not been this excited since Elvis was sighted working concessions at Bryant Denny stadium.
  3. Bama fans have not been this excited since hounds tooth caskets became available.
  4. Bama fans have not been this excited since they learned Kenny Stabler was driving their children’s school bus.
  5. Bama fans have not been this excited since the no shirt and no shoes policy was dropped at Captain D’s.
  6. Bama fans have not been this excited since former Coach Mike Price tried to cash his buyout check at Sammy’s strip club.
  7. Bama fans have not been this excited since Skoal dip cans came in his and hers.
  8. Bama fans have not been this excited since they had their Bear Bryant coke bottles appraised on Antique Road Show.
  9. Bama fans have not been this excited since Joe Namath kissed their wife.
  10. Bama fans have not been this excited since they learned every time a hurricane hits they get a new trailer (FEMA).

Cheer up Auburn fans there is always recruiting and women’s basketball. Look at it this way at least Auburn items will be on discount for Christmas time.

Just want to clear up some errors...

1. Fans: I don’t know if you understand this yet in your life, but all fan bases have obnoxious redneck fans. And you should know, you are an Auburn fan. I’m sorry about what happened to you and yours, but don’t hold the entire fan base accountable for some rednecks that somehow made it to the game.

2. Offense: You mention Cody not being a factor in the game. Bwaha. What game were you watching? Did you not see him recover the fumble? Did you not see him assist in sacking your QB? Did you notice your offensive line being pushed back into Kodi’s face each and every play? Of course not, because you have too many emotions riding high to be able to view the game objectively.

The rest of your post was quite funny, especially Durst bagging groceries.

Correct.

……There are jerks in all walks of life. Didn’t see ANY of it out of the Bama players, Saturday.

……Cody. Auburn handled him. Three assists, one sack. It might have taken three linemen to do it, but Auburn handled him. The linebackers and secondary behind that, no. Too worried about Cody. It’s a team game, and even without significant stats, Cody DID control the middle, and helped hold Auburn’s best RB rush to eight yards. One man is not going beat anyone. A great secondary and good linebacker corps behind Cody, did.

……Congrats, brandonh. I figured the Gators would cakewalk, a couple of weeks ago. After having watch Bama carefully, I don’t think so. It’s going to be a good SEC championship game, I think.

Great post. I always enjoy your write ups when I am trying to delve into the Auburn world. You have a sense of pride yet your articles are very concise. I may not always agree with you but I enjoy what I have read.

I agree as well

Cody is a man, no doubt… but he was not the player that killed our offense. My wife even asked me why everyone was so high on Cody. She said he just looked like a extra fat lineman. He plugged up the middle, but IMO he is not worthy of all the hype.

I will also agree that I did not give Bama the credit for being 11-0, now 12-0. They are a great team. SEC Championship should be great. Maybe the only Championship Game worth watching. ACC will be a pillow fight, and Big XII a blowout.

Just Take Your Lumps

Don’t resort to projection. Take your lumps. GT handed us our hats this weekend. It hurts. Karma is a B. Auburn had it coming and plenty more is on the way.

The Karma that ran (literally) over your Dawgma...

…was a 1930 Ford Coupe.

No more on the way for you guys? Misery loves company, especially if your two best players bolt for the NFL.

Law of averages, man. Not karma. Nothing mystical about it…

Plenty for us too

Plenty for us…….I’ve been disgusted with my Alam Mater 1.) Because our idiot pres. Adams won’t make it Sanford-Dooley stadium, 2.) All this thugery since the dance in Jacksonville. I say UGA goes 7-5 next year on the way to the Music City Bowl. GT gets a couple a decade……No team in the history of the cosmos does less with more talent than UGA……that and the fact our guys always bolt early for the show. You guys will back.

by JEFFCODAWG on Dec 1, 2008 11:55 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

To hear Alabama tell it...

…no team in history does more with less talent than Auburn does, since they out-recruit us every year since 1895. Of course, I could have stood some more of that ‘more with less’ this year… :-)

If I had to guess, I’d say Stafford stays and Moreno goes, or some combination there of…

Of course, I picked Auburn to win one of their last two games, too!

by War Eagle Atlanta on Dec 1, 2008 2:40 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Firstly...

It’s a bit hypocritical to criticize us, when your fans are no better. I could write an epic novel (and a sequel) about how I was treated during last year’s Iron Bowl, by NOT JUST THE YOUNG, but the old as well.

Secondly, to say 80% of our fan base is sleeveless, and mullet-headed is a bit hypocritical as well, when there are nearly as many mullets, rebel flags, and straw hat wearing rednecks seen Aubarn as there are in Alabama on gameday. Less you forget, no fan base is anymore civilized than the other, especially in the South (and no this is not a direct shot at Southern people). This is like saying my trailer is better than yours. We’re all apart of the same state, which is nearly split 50/50, and there are a lot of trash on both sides of the fence, just as there are in Athens, Knoxville, Gainesville, Baton Rouge, and of course both Oxford and Starkville.

by TaylorTot on Dec 1, 2008 5:47 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Tatertot

,,,,,,I challenge you to drive down the road and count the number of trailers with bammer flags flying in front, next to their cars sitting on blocks, versus the number of Auburn flags doing the same. I don’t know about where you live, but the bammer mullets far out number barn mullets.

I have been to one game in Bryant-Denny and do not care to go back. The section my wife and I sat in was full of your “classy” people. As we pulled for our team, just as you would, the “classy men and women” were very nasty to me and my wife. The women were the worst. We left our seats at half-time and stood, the entire second half, in the Auburn section. And when we first got into the Auburn section, we had to move because we were standing next to a bammer fan. He complained to to the police that we were irrating him. That was the cops words. The bammer never said a word to us. Real classy. Until you have had it happen to you, you have no right to say anything on the matter.

I hate you guys had a bad seat

I saw some classless Alabama fans as well, just like the Auburn fans walking down the strip doing the Gator Chomp and laughing – more than just a handful. That came across as pathetic, but I also saw some bama fans acting in ways they shouldn’t have.

Lets be honest. You are at a stadium filled with probably 80%+ Bama fans. You are going to see a lot of idiots. But that is mainly a numbers game. Probably about the same percentages, just in greater numbers.

there are just as many redneck Bama fans as there are redneck auburn fans, and vice versa. I met and talked with many classy Auburn fans at the game, and saw some douches too. But overgeneralizations, no matter the origins, are many times wrong. And in this case, it is.

Its their thing.

If they like it then go for it. I have very little wrong with it. Especially when i’m not on the receiving end of it………….. its been a while since auburn has been on the receiving end of a gator chomp

The seats were great

,,,,,it was the fans that spoiled the experienced. We decided we would rather stand than be subjected to the glares, stares, and harsh words.

I agree that there are fans on both sides that are idiots, but, I have never seen “older” Auburn fans treat visiting team fans the way we were treated by the same age group at bammer. And, I will say it again, we were pulling for our team, just like they would have been had they been at Auburn. My wife and I enjoy traveling to see Auburn, but I doubt we will ever go back to Tuscaloosa.

The gator chomp thing was classless. No argument from me on that. And I agree that there are redneck barners, but where I live, around Montgomery, there are more bammers, by far.

Oxford?

You don’t bring your family’s silver to a tailgate with half of the dirt road showing up. You put on your dress or suit and tie and take your handle of bourbon and you are off to the Grove. Win or loss, at least the tailgate was a classy affair.

well now..

its funny i submitted my comments to several sites and each have different comments. As far as the fans go as I said there are some Auburn fans that act that way, but for the most part ask visiting fans they dont have problems at Jordan Hare. I have been all over, never had problems at MSU, UT, Oxford, UF…..LSU..is rough, Athens depends on the group, but Bama can be just as bad. I am just stating facts, that bama fans, not just one, not just a section, but most all day were outwardly trying to be rude and get in their face. My mothers quote “they had so much pent up hate as if they had never seen visting fans before or Auburn fans before in general” They acted as if they had never been to a game before. WDE, till next time…:)

Saying most is wrong

I seriously doubt “Most” Bama fans were cussing and being rude to you and your mother.

Fans

The only fan that I saw was an Auburn fan in the upper deck flipping off every Alabama fan he could. I went to the game with an Auburn fan and other than what I just mentioned, I didn’t see anything other than harmless ribbing by both sides. Quit trying to act “Greater Than Thou”

He must have been flipping off alot of fans since he was at Tuscaloosa. Did you see what the other fans were doing to him to make him flip them off? Slightly one sided dont you think.

Dude get a life. Your almighty tigers were the proud recipient of a good azz beating last saturday. There is not much more to say other than we’ve got the better team this year & it showed. We will have our hands full against a great florida team. Tell you wife that Cody is a manchild. Call him fat or whatever but he manhandled your center. Bosely looked like he had beaten & left for dead during the auburn postgame interview. I think Bosely had hand prints on his neck from all the times that Cody used his hand to push him around the field as if he was selling hotdogs out of a mobile push cart..
Lets talk about how dirty your OL play was during the game. Pugh dove at Luther Davis’ knee after the play was over. Luckily Davis moved the opposite direction before Pugh hit the ground. This has been characteristic of you team for several years now. Dorsey from lswho & several players from clemsome have talked about your dirty play. There is no place for this type of teaching or allowing these thugs to get away with such behavior. The surprising fact is that Your HC & OL coach seem to condone this behavior.
Auburn fans are just as bad as BAMA fans. I was in Jordan Hare 8-10 years ago & I had my BAMA hat knocked off my head by a drunk auburn fan. I shoved the drunk guy up against the wall & pretty much threatened him an inch of his life. So I know what it’s like to be in the enemy stadium & be treated by rude rednecks. I’m sorry for you & your family being treated in that manner but I’ve got some good advice for you. Stay home next time. I know that it sux that a person can’t go to a football game without being harassed but that’s life buddy. Sorry to have to set you straight on these things buddy.
