Details of Tuberville's Future Still Cloudy

Desperate Housewives has nothing on Auburn Athletics. Numerous sources confirmed late Monday afternoon that Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville and school president Jay Gogue did not meet during the day to discuss the future of the Auburn program.

Specifically, it was reported that Tuberville along with athletic director Jay Jacobs left around 5 p.m. and that Tuberville was headed to his son's football banquet. Apparently, under the cloak of darkness a meeting did take place between the three.

Around 7 p.m. the athletic department released this statement: ""President Gogue, Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville did meet Monday to have their annual end of the season meeting. Further conversations between Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville will take place in the following days to discuss Coach Tuberville's plan to make improvements for the program moving forward under his leadership."

I interpret this to mean that Tuberville will return next season. At least that's the way the last sentence reads - to me. If this is the case why not say it - in plain English? You could also take the statement to mean that a decision has not been made yet. If that's the case, why say anything at all?

If the University's intent was to quiet down the circus, they have failed miserably. Rumors will only intensify in the coming hours and days. Public Relations have never been an Auburn strong point and that tradition continues tonight.

We'll keep you posted as things develop...

sweet.

Maybe we can drag this out and make sure we run off the better part of another recruiting class again by having the coach clouded in controversy. God forbid they make a decision and announce it.

That's for sure...

Here we are into December recruiting again and Auburn has another potential controversy swirling around. And,…the media in the state of Alabama, particularly in the B’ham area (see some of the articles out now) milks it for all its worth, splashing the uncertainty in its sports sections. Then pile on top Finebaum’s current editorial trying to make a case for Tuberville being an underachiever at Auburn and you can’t help but wonder what the recruits are thinking. Ultimately, this can make recruiting somewhat more difficult trying to calm the uncertainty in the recruits minds. Auburn doesn’t need anymore controversy to affect its recruiting then it has already experienced this year with the midseason firing of its OC. Not to mention, the hiring of a young energetic head coach like Lane Kiffin at Tennessee is going to make the recruiting battles even more intense, so Auburn doesn’t need anymore handicaps at this time.

Finebaum is a douchebag....

and anyone who reads his article and can’t see his intent and his poor attempt at spin is an idiot. He makes the statement that AU is 7-9 in the SEC and 14-11 in the past two years……so let me get this straight now you can add a winning season to a dismal sub .500 season to make the numbers look like the previous winning season was dismal also? I know last season was not what AU fans expected at least two of the teams that we lost to were not someone we should have lost to. Does this mean that I can say that Saban hasn’t overachieved because he is 17-6 in the past 2 years? Of course not and Finebaum is plain out spinning it with Tuberville the other way. He is a fart sniffing peckerhead that has never accomplished anything on his own…….he has made himself by tearing down the accomplishments of others. I wish that the few idiot fringe auburn fans that do call his show would stop and I include Pat Dye, Evan Woodberry (hardly a fan, but still) and that guy Scott from AUundercover (what the……are his quailifications to speak for the AU nation anyway).

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Amen, brother...

I couldn’t have put it any better myself. I read his drivel only periodically for a good laugh,…but personally never take any stock in it. Any Auburn fan with a wit of sense will see his intent. Unfortunately, some 18 year old minded recruits may read it in combination with everything else being printed and go “oh my gosh, Auburn must really suck afterall”. The problem with demeaning print like this by Finebaum is it can become self-fulfilling “pile-on” journalism, despite being misleading. In other words, it can begin to have a firehose effect. First you read about the controversy at Auburn with keeping Tuberville or not, then you start to see the articles coming out across the newspapers in Alabama with quips like one I read a day ago that said something like “Tuberville walks around like he is going to get to stay at Auburn…” (which is trying to imply Tuberville is only fooling himself and he is for sure a dead man walking), then Finebaum piles on with his “words of wisdom”, and so forth. Most of the apparent anti-Auburn print is blatantly jaded and will give people who go on face value only, an impression the ship is about to go under, even though it is not.

You got that right

Finebaum is a douche nozzle of the highest order. He’s always kicking one of the state team’s when they’re down. I hate him but I’ve got a great story about him.

He had dinner at one of my friend’s house. After Finebaum had gone, they went to the bathroom and there was crap all over the seat. They said Finebaum had gone to the bathroom earlier. Apparently Finebaum had crapped on the seat, didn’t clean it up AND didn’t flush the toilet as there was a mess still in the bowl. To make matters worse it appeared that no toilet paper had been used during his visit. Also, it looked like he hadn’t washed his hands because the neither the soap or sink were wet.

We have referred to him as Crapbaum ever since.

It sounds to me that they have.....

put the onus on Tuberville to have a detailed plan for going foward and getting AU’s program headed in the right direction. That most likely includes a viable list of OC’s and an honest evaluation of what is wrong currently with the program. I would expect that the vague nature of the announcement would be to allow for Tubervilles dismissal should those plans and evaluations to not meet the predetermined criteria of Gogue and Lowder (I mean jacobs….no I mean Lowder). I expect that Tuberville will indeed cut heads to keep the program intact and I hope he can realistically pull someone the caliber of Chuck Long into the fold. Ironically his ability to pull a top OC may depend on his job security or at least the semblance of his job security.

Tuberville is a very good coach....

and its like he said he didn’t suddenly wake up and forget how to coach. He supplies a great deal of stability to the program and that is key in keeping the program headed in the right direction. I hope that Tuberville provides the powers what they are looking for and this is not just a chess move to make his dismissal appear justified…….as in he came to us with a plan that we felt would not provide the university with the leadership we were hoping for….blah blah blah…..

If this is indeed an honest attempt to get an outline or flow chart for success then I believe Tuberville will be back and AU will prosper for it…..if not it will be just another back door decision that gives the University another black eye.

Outline or flow chart suggestion for Tuberville...

I’m hoping and praying that part of the outline or flow chart for success includes unloading all of his offensive assistants. It’s time for them all to go. I’m not going to hold my breath, though.

I'm so torn..

on this issue. Tubbs deserves to stay I think. But if things begin to go down hill early next season I’m afraid of a mid-season dismissal of Tubbs which would really turn things upside down. I still believe though….WAR EAGLE!

Nothing so Far...

What is the deal… a meeting yesterday. Another meeting this morning. What is the hold up. I can only assume that CTT is trying to get a buyout for his coaches that are not retained by the incomming OC. If nothing else, Jay Jacobs should at least tell the bloggers and reporters that Tuberville is staying (or going). I am getting tired of this every damn season.

If you are a War Damn Eagle, you can War Damn anything.

by WarDamnZach on Dec 2, 2008 2:17 PM CST reply actions

No kidding

If we really want Tubs out there and focused on recruiting, as he should, then this post-season carousel has got to stop. Ambiguous press releases do not help either. I still feel that this is collateral damage from JetGate. If we really want to move forward, we truly need to leave it in the past.

That should read "Trustee"...

the other trustees are puppets for Lowder as well.
