If Chizik is our next coach then...

Let's take a look at the positives for Chizik.  He was defensive coordinator for Auburn 2002 to 2004 when he left for Texas and was DC for them for one season before taking the HC job at Iowa State.

Now that his psuedo resume is done, let's look at the Auburn portion of it.

- Our recruiting has gone down since his departure.

- Our defensive mechanics have gone down since his departure.

- Our team has been on a steady decline since his departure, especially in SEC play.

His time at Texas speaks for itself so let's look at Iowa State.

- He had nothing to work with when he arrived and hasn't been able to bring any talent in to win a game for him.  His record stinks and everyone knows it.

I think for him to succeed at Auburn, he will have to get a great offensive coordinator and staff and let them do their thing.  With the hire of Chizik, this is actually a great opportunity to put any offense in place and get some time to allow it to develop.  If Auburn is to try to implement a high powered offense, this is going to be our best time to do it.

To sum up, Chizik on paper sucks for us and he made some comments when he left that could be construed as bad, but most outside of the Auburn family would agree that Texas is a better offer for a head coach than Auburn is.  He didn't spit on us and say that Auburn is a crap offer, just that Texas is a better opportunity.  We have a blank slate to work with now and anything can happen with it.  If Chizik is to be named, at least he can come now and start getting his guys in place and hit the road now instead of waiting for him to coach a bowl game.  We need to stop hollaring for Jacob's head now and get behind the program again.  Jacob's fate now will ride with Chizik's, if Chizik fails then Jacob's will likely be gone.  Chizik knows his way around the south for recruiting already so he should be able to pick up where he left off and possibly have some new connections in the Texas/Oklahoma area now.

We need to rally now and show the possible recruits that they will still have support.

If he is the coach

if he is the coach i’ll stand by them, but I dont want him to be, I just dont believe him to be the best man for the job. I CAN NOT and will not argue his sucess as a DC, at either place he has been a DC, on the same hand I can not argue his apparent failure as a HEAD COACH at 5-19.

What is this crap?

Hey we will settle for this now, but if he fails then we know that Jacobs is gone? Well that’s great, but did we learn nothing from Bama’s debacles? We want someone solid now, NOW. He is a proven loser as a head coach. He was a great coordinator. This is beyond ridiculous. He was the best that we can get?

Jacobs should be gone regardless of Chiziks future.....

Jacobs has failed no matter what…..if Chizik succeeds it will be the equivalent of Jacobs winning at a Crap shoot…….blind luck. Jacobs should go for mishandling Tubervilles negotiations and for mishandling the coaching search. I cannot say it enough I will not send one red cent to AU until Jacobs is gone.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Look around

Bob Stoops went to OU from being a good defensive coordinator and hired an offensive staff and let them do their job and they are now a perennial top 3 program. Give Chizik a chance at a solid program before throwing him under the bus for being a bad HC. If Chizik brings in a good offensive coordinator and lets him get his guys and lets them do their job, then Auburn might be top 15 next year and top 5 the year after. We have talent, we just have to let them buy into a system and leave it in place and let them learn it.

I don’t argue that Chizik wasn’t the best choice, but we were not going to get a proven winner, Auburn looks like a bunch of idiots and it gets worse everyday. People can argue that Gill would have been better but he is more of a crap shoot than Chizik is. We aren’t going to get Spurrior, we aren’t going to get Butch Davis. We aren’t going to get any name that people fear. We just aren’t.

It amazes me that Tuberville has stayed so high in everyone’s mind through this whole thing. He has been at the center of every controversy for the past 10 years at Auburn, but you blame only Lowder (You know, the guy behind the guy behind the guy who is behind the guy…). Maybe it was Tuberville all along looking for the almighty buck. Tuberville was nothing but mediocre coming into Auburn and Chizik is in the same place right now. He can succeed if given the chance. Everyone always blamed the OCs for the failures of Auburn’s offenses in the past ten years, they blamed the lack of talent on the offensive side of the ball, but with all that has changed only two things stayed the same. Our offenses stunk and Tommy Tuberville was there.

The best thing to do is to get behind Chizik and keep supporting the program and trust that it will get better.

This is a crap hire. I’m sorry, but his division in the Big 12 was weak this year and he was still only able to win 3 games all season. Being a good d coordinator doesn’t translate into being a good head coach. You’re welcome Alabama.

Coordinators

Don’t let him make the same mistakes he made at ISU. Supposedly we had a big pile of money to draw the best assistants so he went out and gave what can only be described as welfare by hiring his buddies from the dregs of college football to be our coordinators. Then after this year he threw them both under the bus by demoting them. Enjoy…

Maybe he’ll be better with the athletes that you guys can get but based on what little we saw he won’t be winning any games through his coaching ability.
