Reasons I've heard why GC is our new head coach....

This is a MESS.  I've spent the last  couple of days hoping to wake up from a nightmare.  I've asked myself over and over again how our athletic director could possibly be this stupid?  Is he REALLY this stupid?  Is he REALLY that much of a failure? The stupidity and incompetence of Jacobs is staggering.  I remember when just a few years ago when we were a national powerhouse.....in the BCS mix every single year.  Now we are a national laughingstock.  Everybody in the entire country sees the stupidity of this hire except Jay Jacobs.  Why?  What, in fact, is going on?

The latest I'm hearing is that, believe it or not, Lowder is actually not happy about the hire.  The main driving force behind the hire has been Pat Dye with a few other prominent boosters, and Jay Jacobs actually being stupid enough to listen to them.  The latest rumors swirling is that the reason Gene Chiszik was hired, and the reason so many 'no name' candidates were interviewed is that they were looking for a candidate that would agree to let someone else hire their staff.  Chiszik was the only candidate that would ultimately agree to that. The way that this rumor will be verified is to look at who is hired on the staff.  Reportedly, Dye wants to hire a bunch of ex-Auburn players on the staff.  Watch and see.  A good way to gauge the beginning of this is if Patrick Nix gets hired as offensive coordinator.

There are two positive things I am trying to take away from this.  One:  A lot of ex-Auburn players that used to play under Chiszik (Dontarrius Thomas, Karlos Dansby, Carlos Rogers, etc.) that are in the NFL now are speaking out in a positive way about him, saying that they loved playing for him, he's a good coach, etc.  Hopefully this will help recruiting.  Two:  if Chiszik does fall flat on his face, as many expect he will, surely this is the end of Jay Jacobs.  It'll take a year or two to get rid of him, but at least we'll be rid of him.

I hope.

EDIT:  Was confirmed this morning that all assistants were told to 'look for employment' during a meeting last night.....including James Willis.  The only assistant that was actually GOOD at his job.  The loss of Willis is a TERRIBLE mistake.  He's a good coach and a fantastic recruiter.  Let the stupidity begin.....

Pat Dye basically blamed Jacobs for the hire and said he had nothing to do with it. if they do hire Nix then someone needs to do me a favor and shoot me in the face right now.

Just so you know

,,,,,,Pat Dye was at the press conference today.

Yeah Pat Dye said this was all on Jay. I have also heard that it was not Lowder but Spina that was the driving force behind this hire. I am not sure we will ever know the real culprit, besides Jacobs, but as I hope and pray for the best, I am not counting on it.

There are a few good assistants that are former Aauburn players that are out there, Stacy Searles and Rodney Garner for starters. I thought Willis did a good jub with the linebackers, but it looks like Chizik gave all the current assistants their walking papers.

Only time will tell.

I second that...

Letting Willis go was a terrible mistake. Of all the recruiters left over from Tuberville’s staff, Willis was out their busting his tail the most to keep it halfway respectable. And, I would imagine he did it not only to show the incoming coach that he is a hard worker and a great recruiter for Auburn (to help make a statement to keep his job at Auburn),…but that he loves Auburn having put out a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for Auburn. And what’s his reward?,…the boot.

Time will tell...

One positive is gettiing Joe Whitt back to help with recruiting. I think Willis should be retained as well. Maybe Chiz will bring Mike Pelton back with him.

I’ve gotten over the outrage at the announcement and have now fallen in behind Coach Chizik. He’s got some good mentors in his past, Monte Kiffen and Bill Oliver. The UT game could be interesting next year…

Joe Whitt is coming back to help out with recruiting?

Is that true? If so, that would definitely help, I believe. He’s a “master” at recruiting and Auburn could use all the help it can get about now. Someone called me and said there are reports on Rivals.com that our commitments are decommitting left and right and opening back up their recruiting, since the announcement of Chizik as head coach and I’m sure cutting Willis off at the knees didn’t help matters.

Yeah i hate this

He just comes in and takes out James Willis what the crap. What about Eddi Gran has anyone heard anything about him, I hope he stays. I am not so sure we should let Terry Price go either. I just want to hear who will be OC. Does anyone know if Paul Rhodes is still around??

Raymond

I have posted that there was only one person that I cared about what he had to say about all this. and his number was 2,243 24. As in 2,243 yards and 24 touchdowns. he is better known as Raymond Cotton and he has just left the building.

We are NOT a laughing stock

We may have egg on our facenow, but do you think our SEC brethren are going to overlook us on the schedule next year?
