After this last season I was guilty in tearing CTT down. I was so upset and likely so. I saw the program I love get stomped to the ground. Auburn became the laughing stock of the SEC...and with our final 77 place ranking...even worse.
Then I got what I wanted...what I thought was going to happen...CTT was out and all was well with the world. Heck, we were getting Mike Leach to be our coach...no, maybe that guy from Boise, nope Ball, nope, Turner Gill...wait what the....Coach Chizik? Who in God's name picked that one?!?!
Right...how many people are with me on that??? I'm sure enough of you out there.
But then I started reflecting on how nice 2004 was...and his continued success at Texas..and then his pitiful downfall at Iowa State. And I mean pitiful...and I hurt inside thinking of this hire. I was confused...how did this happen, but then I thought for a while and read all of the posts here, watched all the youtube and CSS footage, and here's what I have come up with. Coach was HC at Iowa for two years. That isn't sufficient enough to install his recruits (hopefully the case) and perfect a plan. I guess if Iowa's Sophomores and Juniors put up some great numbers next year in the Big 12, we might all have to stick our foot in our mouths.
But nevertheless, Coach Chiz is our coach. He put it down in his press conference that he is an Auburn Man and I truly believe his heart lies with this team...no...this family. He was outspoken and said all the right things...get back to Runningback U, get physical...hit some people. I love that. It's what scares the rest of the SEC...forget Nat Champs...I would love to just get back at Bama...36-0 revenge style.
With Coach getting the brunt of a cold welcome from the fans, I will go out and say that I am now...after much soul seeking...okay with this hire, and I wish him and our young warriors on the field much success.

I love how AU’s goals are to beat Bama…and Bama’s goals are to win the BCS. Why not just write the rest of your season off and just prepare for Bama all year? That might make more sense.
And trust me, no one in the SEC is scared of Auburn. Don’t fool yourself, even Ole Miss is taking your recruits.
We focus on the hopes of winning an SEC and national championship, year in and year out, they focus on winning the Iron Bowl year in and year out.
This is what separates the two schools by a gazillion miles.
When your entire town evolves around ANOTHER FOOTBALL TEAM (half anti-Alabama, the other half Aubarn), you can’t go a sentence without uttering Nick Saban or ‘Bama, and you have a “countdown to the Iron Bowl” hanging up in your lockerroom, that’s the exact reason why nobody gives AU a chance, nor do they respect them.
Just Beating Bama
Please explain how some fan mentioning “Just Beating Bama” on a blog becomes an official goal of the Auburn Football team. Somehow I just fail to see the connection, although with the Bama game falling so late in the year, they loser is pretty much guaranteed NOT .to be a part of the BCS Championship game.
As far as no one the SEC being scared of Auburn, I like flying under the radar.
Rebuttal
I am not, nor have I ever said that the goal is to not win a National Championship or an SEC title (Bama didn’t either this year if you recall). It was that with a new coach and complete overhaul of a team, that is all I expect, and I would be happy with it.

How excited were ya’ll to beat us for ONCE IN 6 YEARS this year? That is all we are hearing!! So don’t give me that crap that you don’t care just as much as we do..and no, it is not the only thing that is important to us. BCS is what is important to us too.

Of course I was excited, but it was kind of expected so it didn’t mean much. Maybe if Auburn was relevant, then the game would have some significance.
I am watching ESPN at this moment and they are talking about how Auburn is in a serious slump and how Cotton just decomitted, etc. etc. But hey, it’s not your fault, it’s your AD and boosters.

What is the deal
with bammers and their obsession with the word “relevant”? Do you guys have a meeting before each season starts where you are taught one multi-syllable word to use against every opponent? Honestly, enough. First I thought it was only my insufferably obnoxious, quasi-intellectual bammer cousin opining on every other SEC team’s “relevance” or “irrelevance” each week. But no, it’s apparently all of you. You need to go find a thesaurus (that’s a book where you look up a word’s synonyms (those are words that share the same meaning)) and look up another word to convey your meaning.
Further, if Auburn really is so “irrelevant,” then what does that say about you? What kind of a person would bother reading and commenting on a blog about an “irrelevant” subject? That reeks of desperation to me.

I’m sorry your cousin is smarter than you. That’s not my problem. If you can’t infer what the word relevant means in it’s football context, then you should ask someone smarter than yourself. I’ll break it down for you: A football team is relevant, usually, if it will at least make a bowl appearance garnering 8 wins. IE: Auburn should have been relevant this year, but by the time we got to practice against you, you were irrelevant.
Thanks for enlightening me on what a thesaurus is. It seems you do have those in Auburn, but your AD isn’t competent enough to hire a proven coach. Paradox?

Just got lucky when he threw out enough money to get a coach. His decisions before that were great, too many ‘winners’ to list. Don’t worry, UA student’s tuition and their opportunity to learn went down the toilet when he came, but it’s ok because it has always really been that way at UA. It’s sad when you say irrelevant when, for basically the past decade, we have had one of the best complete winning percentages in the nation. You probably don’t remember that because those were your golden years. We could go back and forth and I could throw out six in a row and you could inevitably throw out UA’s six national championships, it always happens, but stick to UA blogs. You learn more about YOUR team rather than trying to make a senseless point.

What about the decade before last when you guys only won THREE Iron Bowls all together? Why does this decade matter, when the previous decade PROVED you couldn’t beat us unless we were crippled? Your little run during our down years is over. Now you see what it’s like to “dwell in the past”, don’t you barn boy? The PAST is having “the best complete winning percentage for most of the decade.” The PRESENT is being 5-7, while we’re 12-1, and how could I forget 36-0? Accept it.
Please continue throwing every inferior pun into the mix, simply because you’re stuck with Gene Chizik. I know you wish Saban was your coach, but quite frankly, your little backwoods cow college couldn’t afford a high quality coach of his caliber. But never fear, our school will CONTINUE to finish in the top 50 in terms of academics (and how do you like that number 7 ranking we received a few weeks back), while the farm continues to trail, which is expected of course.
I’m sure it’s hard for a Barnie, such as yourself, to own up to the fact (I encourage you to read my enlightening response to our 12 NC thread posted by War Eagle Atlanta) you just can’t accept knowing we own you in every statistical category known to mankind. It eats you up knowing that the dark, unBEARable shadow we cast over you will never go away… It’s okay, because for a school, for being recognized with 1/2 of an NC to take a shot at another school for being recognized for having 12 National Championships (during the early, undefeated years of which we put the south on the map by WINNING THOSE CHAMPIONSHIPS), ESPECIALLY WHEN only FOUR (NOT 21) of your pathetic SEC titles are legitimate (88: LSU had more SEC wins than you; 89 Alabama had more SEC wins than you). Maybe Bama would have beaten Florida if they hadn’t concentrated so much on beating Auburn. Ever think about that?
Please congratulate Coach Saban on that fine choke job in the 4th Quarter after dominating Florida in the 3rd quarter.
Tommy Tuberville beat Florida the last 3 times that they met on the field. One of those games, Auburn was a 17 point underdog to a #1 ranked Florida team. Since Saban was obvioulsy not up to the task, he may want to wise up and call Tuberville for some advice.

I think the definition of Auburn football is choke. Don’t get butthurt because Bama played a better season this year than Auburn ever could with much less talent. But don’t worry, in the coming years we will have the talent to carry us through games like we had with Florida.

What about the 8 out of 12 Iron Bowl victories before those illustrious six years (when we were losing to nearly everyone else for the most part), or the illustrious THREE Iron Bowl victories you had in the ENTIRE decade of the 1990s? How does it feel to be BACK where you rightfully belong?
And why are you hearing it so much? BECAUSE IT’S ALL… WE’VE… HEARD… EVER… SINCE… OUR… DOWNFALL… BEGAN! If it were LSU fans, we’d be doing the same to them. This could go back and forth all day, but is it really worth it? I know when Alabama starts to lose again, fans are going to pick up on other things like the Birmingham Thunderbolts or the NHL, just so they don’t have to watch their beloved lose. You guys only care when you’re up, is that being a true fan of your team? Sweet Bear wouldn’t think so. When I say that does it break your heart? It’s like a bunch of little kids get together and try to heckle when your team does well though…do you ever see that? I know you do, because you’re posting on an Auburn Blog during lunch break, let me guess, fourth period? YOu say that LSU doesn’t do that, After a week they move on…. Yeah because they aren’t your biggest rival you idiot! And lets face it, Your team didn’t exactly suck every year that we beat you during that streak. There were even a couple of times that we were the underdogs.

That Auburn coaches sit around all day, 365 days a year thinking about how they can beat bama. Hell wasn’t it your present coach that said he would work on beating Auburn everyday? Utah HAS a good football team. I have seen them play live. This is going to be more of a game than the bammers are giving it credit for. Utah COULD win.
I root for Bama every game but one......
unless it directly affects the welfare of AU. I have a hard time seeing Bama gaining anymore edge in recruiting or otherwise over AU than they already have by winning the Sugar Bowl. Its SEC against the outside and I will root for Bama in this game.

Yeah, my family used to do that
Until I started getting hateful messages from my bammer extended family to the extent of “I can’t wait until one of your barners gets hurt.” And, “It was too bad in the Miss State game that your players neck was only sprained, not broken.” Their a bunch of SICK puppies, and now I want them to be embarrassed and DOMINATED in EVERY GAME, no matter who the opponent is.
I never actually hated them until this season. I hope the Utes kick the s**t out of them.
I have peckerhead bammer relatives as well....
and they are the most obnoxious bammers in my opinion, My brother is the epitome of an obnoxious bammer and they are the “I root for Bammer and whoevers playing Auburn” mentality. I do get my jollys when Bama loses a game by giving them hell believe me. But I try to take the intelligent and higher road……when an SEC team loses out of conference it makes the entire conference look bad. When we beat a bad Bama team it does nothing to bolster AU. AU was kept out of the NC game in ’O4 by the narrowest of margins…..what would have been the result had we beat a 9-2 Bama team rather than a 6-5 Bama team…..one could make the argument that our strength of schedule and national recognition would have been a good bit higher….high enough to get us to the NC game. I am not rooting for their fans to win I am rooting for the SEC to win or for an AU opponent to be stronger appearing when we play them.

And I root for every other SEC team, as long as it’s not the week they’re playing Auburn. That’s the view I’ve always subscribed to, my entire family for that matter. I agree that when it’s family members with the bammer hater mentality it’s so much worse. Less you can politely say to them without burning bridges, you know? I’m just done after the last barrage of insults from my “family.” They went too far… For 6 years the Auburn side of the family could have harassed them, but we never did. They’re just a different breed. I just can’t in good conscience pull for them in any situation. Tacky is just tacky, and they won’t learn if……well, ok, they’ll never learn! But, I hear what you’re saying. I just can’t do it anymore.
