I am trying, I really am

I am really trying to accept the Chizik hiring and move on.  I really am.  He was not my choice for coach, but he is my team's head coach.  At this point with seemingly the whole universe against him and by connection Auburn, I really really want him to do well.

But time is ticking.  He let go all the coaches and as of yet has not hired one replacement, which brings up one point that really ticks me off, why not keep Willis? He is an Auburn man who was still recruiting his tail off and he adds at least one more warm body out there making contact with these recruits.  And speaking of contact with recruits, check out this article on Lutzenkirchen from the AJC

http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/shared-blogs/ajc/cfbrecruit/entries/2008/12/17/ahburned_lassit.html

What the heck is Chizik doing?  One of out top recruits at a position where we have two seniors next year and need to add depth for the future.  I know the plane couldn't fly early yesterday but the phone is not broke and heck it's about an hour and a half drive, get in the darn car Gene.  I know there is a lot on his plate, but this is what big time football is about and he needs to get off his duff and get moving.

I want him to succeed, probably due to my Auburn against the world attitude, which is not too far from the truth at the current time, as they line up to get their licks in against Auburn.  I am trying, I really am.

I'm trying to come around, too...

Today, for what it’s worth,…maybe nothing,…I’m emailing Joe Whitt and asking him to try and talk some sense into Chizik to keep Willis. I had read Chizik had talked to Willis in this regard, but I’ve not heard anything further. I know I don’t need to even tell Whitt something he already knows, but I think hearing it from a fan (and more) might help give Whitt a little nudge. If anyone else wants to pile on this effort,…here’s Whitt’s email address, though he may be on the road recruiting and reading his emails sporadically about now:

whittjo@auburn.edu

(Cool,…it’s neat to see they’re still using the same email naming convention I developed for email addressing at Auburn,…many many moons ago when they were first beginning to roll out email en masse to the entire university.)

Finally,...

although,…I wish CGC could meet with him even sooner. Maybe that is the soonest Lutzenkirchen can meet CGC though. Thanks for the update.

That doesn’t mean anything yet. He hasn’t gotten him to stay on board.

Jay Tate, Sportswriter with the Montgomery Advertiser...

was at Chizik’s press conference and spoke to Willis in the hallway. This was encouraging regarding possibly retaining Willis. Again,…hope Willis is retained.

Jay Tate said:

Also said my good-byes to James Willis. That was a different deal. His office wasn’t that packed. As I was walking along with him, Willis was approached by an athletic department official who said: “Have you talked with Chizik yet?”

Willis said: “No.”

The official said: “You need to.”
