Tuberville Discussions Spiral Out of Control

Tubs_lsu_medium
Tuberville's future remains unclear.

Just as sure as they put up the Christmas tree each year at Rockefeller Center you can count on there being controversy in the Auburn Athletic Department. Or so it seems. The saga of Tommy Tuberville continues tonight on the Plains.

The discussions between Tuberville and athletic director Jay Jacobs appears headed for another round of meetings on Wednesday. After talking for several hours in Tuberville's office on Tuesday, Jacobs, doing his best Punxsutawney Phil impression, emerged from the athletic department late in the afternoon to announce that talks will continue between the two men stuck in the middle of this ever growing debacle.

"We will meet again over the next couple of days and we will let you know how it goes," Jacobs said. "That is really it. We will let you know how it goes." It's hard to imagine two people who have very little use for one another talking amicably for several days about the future of the program. There's obviously a sticking point somewhere.

The most amazing thing about this entire process is the secrecy surrounding it. I have talked to no one close to the program who has any idea where this thing is headed. Early Tuesday, all signs pointed to Tuberville being on the way out. Later in the day, opinion seemed to shift.

This much is certain. Auburn President Jay Gogue's handling of this issue is starting to draw questions about his own leadership skills. Like it or not, how you handle the football program goes a long way in determining how long they let you live in the President's Mansion. Gogue's stock is in free fall tonight.

Auburn's lack of leadership in the athletic department continues to rear its ugly head. Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse than last year's Arkansas hunting trip adventure or the quick departure of Will Muschamp, Jacobs goes and tops himself.

It's time for someone, anyone to step in and stop this madness. Make a decision and get on with it. Can Tuberville really continue to operate at the level he needs to after this drawn out affair? It's not fair to him or the players. Nobody needs a week to make a decision when they've been sitting around a table hour after hour starring at one another.

It's time to fish or cut bait. Apparently, that's easier said than done.

We'll continue to keep you updated on any developing storylines. Tomorrow morning we'll look ahead at who Tuberville might bring in as offensive coordinator should he be retained.

This is disgusting.

What we should be focusing on right now is a new OC. Meanwhile, the fan base is at each other’s throats. Recruiting is seriously suffering. AND this can’t be entirely motivating for the players. Does anyone in charge give a damn?!!! It is getting really hard to tell.

AND

Does anyone really think that if we get a new head coach that any of this mountain goat scat will go away?? this is why we should ALL be angry. not because we had an abysmal season.

Said it before, say it again

Jay Jacobs is nothing more than a puppet for the trustees. They’re pulling the strings behind this outfit. I woudn’t be surprised if he had a miniature walki-talki in his ear during discussions so they could tell him what to say. What a joke.

This is way past the point of ridiculous.

Although I’ve always supported Tommy Tuberville, I feel that it’s gotten to the point that there’s too much bad blood between the coach and the administration for the issues to ever be properly resolved. The timing of this whole thing really sucks and unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be a logical way out of it. It’s beginning to appear that the only long term solution would be to tell Tuberville and Jacobs to hit the road hire a new A.D. and a new head coach. I would also support an investigation to determine if there was any unwarranted involvement on the behalf of the Board ot Trustees.

If Tuberville and Jacobs were half the men that they pretend to be, they would either find a way to work together to resolve these issues, or offer there resignations.

I would be curious to know just what qualifications Jay Jacobs has to be the athletic director. He sure hasn’t shown me anything.

One a closing note, it appears that Mike Leach is definitely available since he has shown interest in the Washington job, although I’m not certain that he’s the solution to our problems.

Not only is Jay Jacobs.....

a puppet for Lowder, he is the least qualified AD in the SEC and quite possibly the whole of D-1A. He has shown that time and again he can make any situation volatile. And 83Tiger I agree with you on part of your statement…….Tuberville is negotiating to keep his job…..Jacobs is doing the bloodletting this time. I don’t think Mike Leach is the answer and I really don’t want him at AU. Chuck Long is however available as an OC for Tubs and that would make my christmas all warm and fuzzy.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Student

I am a student at Auburn on campus. We are getting rumors this morning that tubs is gone from other students.

Again if Tubbs is gone you should look for the assistants to be arriving immediately at the Atheletic Complex....

and an anouncement from the University just as immediately. There are far too many coaching vacancies to waste time. I still hope that Tubbs is the man.

Tubby Replacement

Here is a idea for the new Auburn Coach go steal Tom Bradley the DC/Assoc HC from Penn State, and then bring back Tony Franklin to run the offense since your paying him already.

Rumors are flying now

WJOX, Dan Patrick, and Tim Brando are all reporting that the Offensive Assistants are gone, and JOX and Brando are reporting that Tubbs is gone as well. A grad student at Auburn I talked to said that it is going around campus that he is done.

I sure hope not, but I thought I would report what I have seen and heard.

If you are a War Damn Eagle, you can War Damn anything.
