Auburn Undercover is reporting that Gus Malzahn is the new OC
That is right, the guy who was the mastermind behind the Wildcat formation at Arkansas in 2006 and the guy who went to Tulsa and has had the number one offense the last two years there is our new offensive coordinator according to auburnundercover.com. If this is true then that is a good hire, he runs a balanced offense and does it big. Last year he had a 5000 yd passer, three 1000 yd receivers and a 1000 yd runner. Should be interesting but he have to be willing to turn it over to him and I hope they will. This guy could be huge for us and just what I was hoping for.
Malzahn is capable of using the talent at his disposal to maximize his offense. At Arkansas he reinvented the Wing formation to use his talented backfield and at Tulsa he used a no-huddle spread style to tear apart defenses. Should be fun to watch if he can do it.

Wow!
…..I hope that’s right! And I hope Chizik lets him do it! This kinda flies in the face of the “200 year old offense” comment. Of course, the Wildcat IS basically the single-wing…
rivals is on board too now.
Rivals just threw it up too that Malzahn is the O.C/QB coach for Auburn.
This is just what we needed. Someone who can coach and adjust for what talent we have while recruiting to assemble a high powered offense. This could mark the day that Auburn changes their face altogether. Remember that Oklahoma used to be a running school and I would say that Tulsa has a similar offense to OU with good balance.
Malzahn has a dual threat quarterback signed with Tulsa by the name of Shavodrick Beaver that is supposed to be pretty good, he is out of Texas though so I am not sure if he would come with Mazahn though, but maybe. One other thing is that Malzahn gives us the reach into Arkansas now that Tuberville had.
www.al.com is reporting it, too...
Last year he had a 5000 yd passer, three 1000 yd receivers and a 1000 yd runner.
Damn,…reading those numbers in comparison to last year’s pathetic offensive output for Auburn is amazing. Most anything would be an improvment but this hire should improve Auburn’s offense over time. Not to mention, this hire should be a major boost for recruiting, too. Maybe Raymond Cotton will come back into the picture, don’t know.
War Eagle!
I KNOW FOR A FACT!
Malzahn is the new O.C. The reports are true, cannot tell you how I know, but it’s a done deal! Great news, too!
Great Hire!
Alright guys, if there are those out there still upset with the hiring of Chizik do you think you can quiet down a little more and gain some confidence after this apparent hire? This guys knows how to coach up an offense, and maybe this will be another forward step to bringing Raymond Cotton and other offensive stars to the Plains.
Chizik is taking some time to assemble his staff, but he appears to be making calculated strong coaching choices already with Willis and now Malzahn. Let’s get behind our coach and see what other stellar coaches he’s able to bring into the mix. WAR DAMN EAGLE!!
The Creator Of The WildCat Formation
would be David Lee, who is now with the Dolphins.
actually
he is right..maybe you should do the research

Come on rolltidezack32.....
did you not read my post below from Wikipedia? Noone really knows who tagged the Wildcat first….it has gone through multiple variations and a few people can take credit for it….David Lee got it from Malzahn when they were at Arkansas…..if you read the Wiki below Lee’s name is nowhere….and if you Wiki Lee it says nothing about the Wildcat formation in relation to him.
Regardless, it means nothing on the field of play….I would take 11 elderly women in shoulder pads if it put points on the board and won games.
War Eagle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry
I don’t know who created the wildcat formation. But you can’t trust Wikipedia all the time. It can be edited by anyone. So you could be right, he could be right or even neither of you could be right. It doesn’t matter though it is kinda a pointless argument.

Auburn hires Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator

“To get an idea of what to expect, Malzahn wrote a book several years ago entitled: The Hurry-Up, No-Huddle: An Offensive Philosophy. The book description claims ``An exciting, `fast and furious’ offensive system that allows coaches at any level to speed up the game and lengthen the amount of actual playing time, while mentally and physically wearing down the opponent.’’ Think a variation of the spread.”
This is fantastic news

Actually....
The creator of the Wildcat is up for much discussion since it’s a variation of the Wing-T. Se what Wiki says about it. David Lee got involved long after the inception of the offense…which was most likely at the highschool level but made famous by the Razorbacks(Malzahn).
[edit] History
The precursor the scheme for the Wildcat formation is named the “Wing-T”, and is widely credited to being first implemented by Coach Tubby Raymond and Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens football team. Tubby Raymond later wrote a book on the innovative formation.
The virtue of having a running back take the snap in the Wildcat formation is that the rushing play is 11-on-11 (although different variation have the running back hand off or throw the football). In a standard football formation, when the quarterback stands watching, the offense operates 10-on-11 basis.
[edit] High School
There has been much conjecture about the origins of the Wildcat offensive scheme. Some claim it is named for the Wildcats of West Genesee High School, where Miami Dolphins assistant coach Steve Bush once worked.1 Others claim that the offense was created by double-wing guru Hugh Wyatt, a longtime coach in the Pacific Northwest. Wyatt, coaching the La Center (WA) High School Wildcats, published an article in “Scholastic Coach” magazine in 1998, where he explained in detail his offensive system.2 Many other high school football programs across the United States run or have in the past run similar schemes.
The wildcat offense’s key trait, that either the quarterback or running back can receive a direct snap, is one of the many gimmicks featured in the controversial A-11 offense.
[edit] College
The scheme for the Wildcat formation is widely credited to being first implemented and popularized on the college level by the 2005-06 (and 2006-07) Arkansas Razorbacks football team, originally by former Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, in which running backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones were prominently featured. The Wildcat formation was sometimes called the “WildHog” (as a result of the Razorback mascot at the University of Arkansas) and subsequently rebranded as the “WildRebel”3 when Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt went to Ole Miss as head coach (Ole Miss’ mascot being the Rebels).
Kansas State has used the Wildcat offense more recently as has the University of Pittsburgh. The University of Pittsburgh has had great success with the formation lining up either star running back LeSean McCoy or running back Larod Stephens-Howing taking the snap. The Panthers have scored numerous times from this formation throughout the last 2 seasons.4
War Eagle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If he chooses to run the wildcat formation
I would look for Burns to start next year, if he goes to a spread, I could see either Chris Todd or Barrett Trotter starting for us.
I do know one thing, the wildcat with Burns, McCalebb and Fannin in the backfield could be fun to watch. This has me more excited about Auburn football than I have been in a long time. Just for the fact that there is a possibility of us assembling an offense over the next couple years that can put up some serious points.
Keep an eye on Rodney Garner...
Chizik needed to land an established coordinator on offense (and man, did he), but that’s not the case on defense since it is his background. He can offer the spot to someone like Garner who has never been a coordinator, and mentor him in the position.
And Garner has not denied outright his interest.
