Patrick Nix Out In Miami
Nix interviewed with Auburn earlier this month.
Miami has fired offensive coordinator and former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix tonight after the Hurricanes finished this season a disappointing 7-6. Miami lost 24-17 on Sunday to California in the Emerald Bowl.
The dismissal doesn't come as a complete surprise. Despite having two stellar recruiting classes over the past couple of years, the results on the field have been much the same for Miami. The Hurricane offense got off to a slow start this season, but showed progress late in the year. In the end, it wasn't enough to keep Coach Randy Shannon from making a change.
"It's time to part ways, but I really enjoyed my time here," Nix told The Associated Press as he and his family prepared to leave the football complex for the final time. "I loved these players to death. I loved these coaches to death. But in the long run, it's probably better that we make this change."
Earlier this month, Nix interviewed with Athletic Director Jay Jacobs for the Auburn head coaching job. Prior to moving to Miami, Nix served as offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech under Chan Gailey.
It will be interesting to see if Gene Chizik finds a place on the Auburn staff for Nix.

Patrick will always be a special tiger
Just because he was not successful as an O C does not mean he would not make someone a good position coach.

How are his brooming skills?
Malzahn is the OC and QB coach and I don’t want the guy that coached Reggie Ball to have anything to do with Kodi Burns.
Cool that he went to Auburn but would it be breaking news that the guy that did nothing at Georgia Tech got fired from the Miami job if the guy didn’t QB at Auburn 15 years ago? Please, stay away.
unfortanetly
That is the way it has to be though. We don’t need to pick up a guy just to show him loyalty. With Malzahn being the qb coach, where would you put Nix as a position coach? Would you want a guy who played quarterback to coach our receivers that really need a good coach to help them or a better question, would you hire him and force him onto Malzahn? I certainly want Malzahn to make all the calls for assistants for the offense, no ifs ands or buts.
Nix sounds like a real possibility to be on the staff....
I definitely think Malzahn is a good hire for Auburn, but I don’t really have good reason to believe that the Administration is smart enough to not pick Nix. I agree with all of those above that anyone who managed Reggie Ball would be terrible for Kodi Burns.
It just wouldn’t surprise me if Nix was hired in some capacity.
