Where did you hear that for sure?

And I agree with James. Regardless of how you felt about what we should do with Tommy, it is a sad day for Auburn and for Tommy Tuberville.

Wow....

I’m a little surprised by this. Sad day for the Auburn program. I can only imagine what this will do to recruiting.

Recruitment can go either way from here.

But I would say down is the most likely direction. We have to make a HUGE hire now to get some excitement going for us.

Well?

How good do you have to be to stay? Maybe you just have to kiss enough Lowder @#$ to get it done.

Sad day Auburn.

I’m also shocked. Tubs has been a great coach over the years, it’s sad he’s getting treated exactly like Fulmer did. (although Fulmer has been on a downward spiral for awhile now)
I agree with WarEagle86, we need a big hire and get someone here to fire up our players and fan base.

What coach

would take this job? The man has one real bad season in ten years and is out on his rear? Who wants to walk into that job?

by GumptownTiger on Dec 3, 2008 4:39 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Thanks Tubbs

I just want to thank Coach Tubbs for some of me and my little girls best memories. She was a Bammer for years until she seen the 2006 Florida game with me and was converted
Fantastic coach and best wishes

by squeezethesnake on Dec 3, 2008 4:43 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Not a smart move in my opinion

Absolutely gumptown. Who would want this job considering the shit that Tubby went through with these AD’s, and BOT’s. Knuckleheads. I knew that Jacobs was a yes man.

Ooooohoooo!

My crusade is done. War Eagle! Here is to our new and clearly much more exciting future. I am excited about Auburn Football once again!

by Ulcer on Dec 3, 2008 4:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah....?

Lets see how happy you are in the next few years. Especially if we spiral around like alabama’s coaching carousel. With all the openings in college football, This is the time that they choose to put Tub’s out?

by Paratiger on Dec 3, 2008 4:56 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Change has to start somewhere.

Whether you recognize it or not the death spiral of Auburn football started two years ago. I am prepared to deal with a down season or two or even a bad choice or two. Anything will be better than more of the same ole crap from Tubs.

I will remember you said that...

and remind you of it at the appropriate moment. You are so misguided its pitiful.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

I am proud to be an Auburn Tiger and always will be.....

but I am ashamed that men like Bobby Lowder, Jimmy Ranes, Earlon McWhorter, Jay Jacobs are in control and have consistantly blackened AU’s name. I hope I live to see the day when they all leave the University disgraced and broken.

I would like to thank Coach Tuberville for his dedication and his leadership during his tenure and I wish him all the best.

Not really surprised...

If he was going to be retained it would have been announced immediately after the Iron Bowl. I’m betting some very severe terms were presented to Tuberville as conditions for remaining (elimination of all or most of his staff, acceptance of more oversight, renegotiation of his contract, etc.).

No one can argue Tuberville hasn’t given us some damn good football memories over the last 10 years. And I’m certain he’ll be coaching somewhere next year.

I've heard Mike Leach's name thrown around...

it would be very interesting to see him in the SEC.

by brandonh on Dec 3, 2008 5:04 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I have nightmare thinking about a Mike Leach hire at AU.....

we are not some third tier Texas school and we would not survive with out defense. You think we were bad this year hire Mike Leach and look at us next year. We are looking for someone better than Tuberville and that is hard to find. This is a god damned travesty.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

by Todd92 on Dec 3, 2008 5:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Leach not Auburn material

Not that I noticed Tubbs doing it much, but Leach doesn’t wear ties. You folks will find him flakey, Miami didn’t like him when they hired Shannon. Leach i-viewed at Washington Monday, don’t think they liked him much either – he flew back home yesterday morning.

Maybe Lowder would like to put Pat Dye back in charge?

by HalfmileHorn on Dec 3, 2008 10:13 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Do you think he’ll hire Tony Franklin as O/C???

by atlWDE on Dec 3, 2008 5:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No.....

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Has Chris Peterson been contacted yet??? He needs to be.

by Jaybird5129 on Dec 3, 2008 5:07 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I’d bet on Peterson or Kyle Wittingham. I DON’T think it will be Leach or Petrino (as reported).

What Boise St. coach has been successful at his next job?

And don’t say Houston Nutt. He was there for one whole season.

War Damn Eagle!

You can't count Dan Hawkins because of the mess he inherited at CU.....

and the jury is still out as to whether he will be successful or not (although I would say that their program is improving).

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Keep a close eye on Wittingham...

It’s just my hunch, but…
Remember the last Utah coach to join the SEC? I hear he’s doing pretty well at Florida. And Wittingham is a defensive coach. He’s not a Leach or Petrino. He is not a flashy hire, but he is a solid winner.

by atlWDE on Dec 3, 2008 5:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

At this point anyone other than Butch Davis will be a major dissapointment....

You don’t fire a coach like Tuberville and hire a freaking wac or mountain west coach to replace him…….If Jacobs (Lowder) does and they don’t strike gold they had better resign immediately. Jay Jacobs is a damned disgrace to our University.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Leach

Auburn doesn’t want Leach. Leach may be a hot name this year, but look at his record. He almost always loses big games or when he does win one, he will lose one he shouldn’t. This was the first season he put it together and he got really lucky against Texas and needed a 4th quarter comeback against Baylor. That offense he runs either works perfectly or is horrible – there is no in between. I’d be concerned about that in the defense first SEC.

by Jupda on Dec 3, 2008 5:54 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I agree....and he has no concern for defense at all.....

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Jacob's is such a lap-dog...

What decent coach would want to have to contend with Rane’s and Lowder’s lap-dog? He’ll have to bring in scum – do we really want to win with that?

"They finally got their way"...

Speaking of Jay Jacobs and the BOT, here is some commentary by ESPN College Football Insider, Joe Schad, today regarding Tuberville’s departure from Auburn. Schad met with Tuberville late this season and Tuberville told Schad:

“Not everyone’s going to like me, not everyone’s going to have my back”.

Schad went on to say it was obvious that Jay Jacobs and those prominent behind the scenes boosters who had tried to get rid of Tuberville earlier and hire Bobby Petrino, only to see Auburn and Tuberville rebound with a perfect season,…“finally got their way”.

Schad went on to say, the powers that be “finally got their leverage”,…that one bad year (this season’s 5-7 season) and a loss to Alabama,…were just what “they” needed to effect the change. Schad went on to say that finally,…after 10 years, they’re going to get their way because they’re ready for a new voice and ready for a new offense.
