The new Auburn head coach guessing game
Hey everyone. I'd like to invite you to participate in a little contest I'm putting together. It's called "Guess the next Auburn head coach!" What I want you to do is give me the name of ONE person who you think will be named Auburn's next head coach. You can only give one answer. I actually will keep track of all the answers in a spreadsheet and give percentages once the new coach is named.
For those of you who guess correctly, tell them what they win, Marty!
Bragging rights!
Let the game begin!
My answer is Jimbo Fisher.

Muschamp...
I hope with all my strength that we land Muschamp. He may not be the very best fit, but he’s the one candidate I trust the most.

Non sequitur
If enough people give this Post a recommendation, it’ll stay up top and be a lot easier to keep track of everybody’s guesses.
[Coming from a school that just finished their coach search (Tenn), believe me that having fun things like this make the process a lot easier to handle.]

If Muschamp is definitely out, then change my vote to Charlie Strong
I really starting to warmup to this name. The more I think about it, the more it intrigues me.
It’s gamble that might pay BIG dividends. They say that he can recruit, and if he turned out to be a decent head coach, he may be able to out recruit St. Nick with about half the effort. He could have the 5 stars standing in line just to get an invite to see The Plains.
I say roll the damn dice and let’s go recruiting…

Young, energetic coach with a good offensive background. Also a good recruiter. He is at Houston, isn’t that where Gogue came from ?!? Not sure they were there at the same time though, but Gogue would be able to gain some insight on him from people he knows there.

Brian Billick?
Heres another one nobody is thinking of Brian Billick, he of Raven fame, if you want a name guy. He’d hire great assistants and be a good no nonsense leader and figurehead for the program that could go nose to nose with Saban…. an a-hole but not if he’s YOUR a-hole.
How about Paul Johnson?? Did you see the Tech/ UGA game? I really like that guy. He’d be perfect for us, especially since we can’t recruit top caliber QB’s.
I like him and MY suggestion of Dennis Green or Mike Singletary….we really need some outside the box thinking. I suggest we (BOT and all) get with the times and hire a good qulaified black coach….There are probably more of them around than the tired retread old “name” white guys. Although if we can get enough bank for Cowher…how much would it take… 6 million per?….. scary but I’d do that in a second.

BUTCH DAVIS.
the #1 guy on my Auburn wish list would be Butch Davis of North Carolina. he’s a proven winner at Miami and he can turn a program around quickly as he’s proven by what he’s been able to do at North Carolina. plus he’s as good a recruiter as Nick Saban and right now more than anything that’s what Auburn needs. PAY HIM WHATEVER HE WANTS and make this happen Auburn.

The only drawback...
to Davis is, he might be a burnout candidate. He’s older than he looks (as old as Fulmer) and hasn’t stayed anywhere long, Miami being the longest at 5 years. Still he’s got a Pete Carrol resume and think he would be a great choice.

You don't find the truth, refreshing?
I have been right about everything thats gone down this year, Franklin was ineffectual and in a dysfunctional situation and needed to go….Tubs fired him.
I said if we kept running that bastardized version of the spread we were going to drive ourselves into the ground. We ended 1-5.
I said we were going to get humiliated by UGA and BAMA. - well, UGA let us hang around but we got REALLY humiliated by Bama. Worst loss in Tubs tenure.
I said that if we got humiliated by Bama after the type of season we had to endure, the skieswould be Pitch Black on Nov. 30…..and that Tubs may not survive. I was right.
I wasn’t rooting for that to happen, I still want Tubs to be the coach, but he didn’t want to make any changes. And as I also said, if he wasn’t going to make changes they were going to have to fire him.
I may not be a Polyanna but at least I see the world for what it is, its rough, tough and competitive….and I’m quite sure I’m right about that.

It didn't take a rocket scientist.....
to predict Tubervilles ouster considering who pulls the strings so please don’t be so pompous. As to the Franklin offense no one knew that things would unravel so fast and that includes you. The spread does work and it can work at AU but Franklin proved to be a certified nuttjob and incapable of coaching a QB or at least Kodi Burns. And surely you’re not naive enough to think that Tuberville is out because he didn’t want to fire his offensive coaching staff…..if you don’t think that Jacobs was trying to renegotiate his contract your a fool. They were most likely trying to do away with or weaken his buyout……something neither I nor you would have agreed to had we been in his place. Once the meetings on monday met no resolution you had to know that this was likely it. Jay Jacobs needs to be held up to the microscope during this event and if he stumbles he needs to be gone ASAP.

Was the Wicked Witch involved too!!...BOOGEY, BOOGEY!!
Dude, renegotiate his contract? Well lets see, I’m Tuberville and I have a guaranteed buyout if they fire me and the Jays come to me and say “you can stay but we need to renegotiate your contract”, Tubs says “Um….lets see…. go "f” yourself Jays….and say hello to your Mother for me!" The truth will come out, Tubby will talk if he was wronged but from what I hear there is none of this clandestine conspiracy you keep raving about. Tubby was tired of their crap and the mental and physical grind taking a toll on him, and worked out a way to quit and still get paid. Its that simple. Did he get pressured to make changes? Absolutely!! Is there anybody here that didn’t think changes should have been made? I don’t think so. The Jays may be a-holes but they can’t get out of a contract unless Tubby WANTS out of the contract. My understanding is he was OK with leaving and wanted out but is even going to hang around to help with the transition, hardly an acrimonious situation. You may say “they bought his silence!!!”, again all he had to say is “F – U” give me my $6mil. He didn’t have to do anything he didn’t want to.
Oh— and for someone who crowed so much about how great a coach Tubs was, how was it he hired Franklin and spent 10 months coaching and managing with him before figuring out he was a “nutjob”. Franklin couldn’t sell Tubs “boys” on the system which resulted in infighting and an inablility to coach our players on the system. We ACTUALLY went to war with that kind of dysfunction present in the coaching staff….. that was a disaster waiting to happen and Tubs let it happen. After a couple of games you could tell this experiment was going to go Horribly wrong and I pointed that out from the get go. You may say it was easy to see but Tubby either didn’t see it or chose to ignore, both critical errors. So is Tubby the smart guy you say he is or is he the dumb guy you imply he is?

The intent was the end result....
Tuberville is gone. And Tuberville won’t talk if he does it will be many years from now and I just doubt that he ever will. You never know how bad someone can be until the situation gets tough. And the dysfunction as you so aptly put is was not apparent until things went south. I haven’t implied any of the things you say I have don’t be a COMPLETE ASS.

And you can rest assured that they will not be getting one that is better than Tub’s. That just my opinion. Fact is that the AD and the BOT’s made us once again look like idiots to everyone in the football world. So i ask you why would a top Tier coach come here and have to put up with this “Days of Our Lives” lifestyle that they’ve brought to the plains. It baffles me to say the least. “Oh yeah i can’t wait to go coach at Auburn and be subjected to ridicule and constent proding by the BOT’s. Oh and did i mention that i have to do all this while shutting down all the other top programs in the SEC.” Its not enough to have a winning record against all the powers, you have to beat them in everything in order to keep your job at Auburn. “Yeah, Yeah i can’t wait to get there!” I wish i could walk so that i could run down to Auburn and start kicking people in the balls for all the shit!

From a noob--
Hi guys, I’m new on the blog, and just wanted to throw out a couple of names:
My dream coach is Mike Ditka. Don’t laugh. He was a fantastic coach, and I think he really misses the game. I don’t think he’s interested in our job, or would be open to coaching again, but for me he’s like Cowher—a dream pick.
No then, back to reality…. What about Fresno State’s HC Pat Hill? I live out in Nevada, and I’ve admired his coaching style for some time now. Fresno State’s on hell of a scrappy little team. They might not win every game, but they take on teams far more “prestigious” (think USC, UCLA, etc) and give ‘em one heck of a game. This in a state where recruiting is supposedly “wrapped up” by USC and UCLA. Talk about a guy who makes more out of less. I LOVE his mantra: Anyone, any time, anywhere. He coaches his teams to not be afraid of anyone, and I think Auburn could sorely use this attitude now….especially with so many people saying that Saban’s got recruiting in Alabama all wrapped up. I’m interested to hear what you guys think about him. And, he’s definitely available, as he interviewed for the Washington job.
I also think Schiano and Peterson would be good choices, although with Peterson being a Mormon, I don’t necessarily think he’d be a good fit in the bible belt. Although, look at Urban Meyer, eh?
I’ve seen that a lot of people want Muschamp, but I don’t think there’s any chance he’s coming back (I’m not sure I want him, but that’s another story…) A couple of weeks ago the TV commentators were talking about how much Mrs. Muschamp LOVES living in the Austin area, and she’s told Will she doesn’t ever want to leave. I think, based on this, we should pretty much cross him off the list. Because, we all know that if momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy…

Couple of things
Who’s your guess, if you want to play the game?
Urban Meyer is Catholic, and Gainesville ain’t exactly the Bible belt of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. A Catholic would be easier to get used to for some of the die-hards than a Mormon, for sure. Mike Leach is also Mormon.

Sorry, I (obviously) thought that Meyer was Mormon because he coached at the U before Florida. I’m aware of the politics in Gainsville; I lived there for a few years as a kid. I knew Leach was LDS, as well as Peterson. But, I digress…
