past, present and future!

Do you think you auburn will ever be able to take the record of nine consecutive wins away from bama. Now that we are starting to rise from the dark, desperate times we faced with sanctions and coaching nightmares to boot. The six in a row is the highest ever held by AU and even though we have been down for so long we still hold the all time record as well ( 38-33-1 )  along with the 9 in a row against AU  ( 1973-1981 ). The last time AU had the lead in the series was back in 1963 (14-13-1). Thankfully we now have a coach that expects and will hold players to the standards set many moons ago. I honestly hope that neither of our schools ever have to go through that kind of chaos and let downs again. The tide is rising again it might take a couple of years to get back to the prominence we once held but we will get there.

Bammers Bammers everywhere. And not a win in sight

GREAT! Now we get to deal with Bammers on the page telling us over and over how our streak is ending this year. Should make the site a lot more interesting. It’s a shame that they’ve been saying the same thing for the past 5 years (“Enjoy the Iron Bowl win , won’t happen next year”). Last year we were supposed to get lit up, but it didn’t happen. Tide fans forgot that “It’s a process.” Well hold onto your hats Tiger fans because here we go again. According to rolltidejunk its a rather short process (only one season and one top ranked recruiting class). Oh well Tigers at least we were lucky enough to take a couple from them, huh? GIVE ME A BREAK. Season hasn’t even started yet. They haven’t even arrested any of the new recruits (that I know of) and Saban hasn’t even begun denying recruiting violations yet. Let’s watch a couple games before we start forecasting victory Tide Fans. Welcome to Trackemtigers. Mind your manners.

a little class now, no need for animosity so soon

I in no way was taking any shots at your team all I was simply stating was the facts about the records between alabama and auburn that was somewhat off on one of the other post. The 6 wins you guys have had is nothing short of impressive by all means BUT…..... if you check your past the longest consecutive win total would be 9 straight held by…..the tide! I also said nothing about you all not beating us again or any such kind of nonsense I think you might want to reread the last two sentences of the original post before getting all spun up. I along with other bama fans pull for auburn up til the Iron bowl so that both teams come in undefeated and represent the state of ALABAMA well but it is such misunderstanding and animosity toward the other teams fans that keep people from being able to have a good, friendly discussion and understand where each fan is coming from. I do think it is very wrong to pre judge someone and especially high school kids of being criminals or anything negative with out having any knowledge of the people you are judging NO MATTER WHO YOUR TEAM IS! As far as CNS goes if your team had went through the rash of bad leaders or coaches like we have I am almost positive AUBURN would have also jumped at the chance to bring in a quality football coach to revive their program as well so dont down us when you would have done the same! FYI I hope that all TIGER fans good and BAD know yall are more than welcome to visit, comment, and make friendly connections with BAMA fans at rollbamaroll w/out animosity or negativity.

Food for thought from an outsider

Our puny and pitiful rivalry with Tech (aka Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate) and even our venerable share of the Oldest College Football Rivalry in the Deep South cannot compare to the bloodlust we witness to our immediate west, but here’s something to think about:

Guess who holds the record for longest winning streak in the Georgia-Georgia Tech series? That’d be our kid step-brothers over there at the North Avenue Trade School with eight consecutive wins. (And the Georgia player who scored the winning touchdown in the 7-0 victory over the Jackets in 1957 got his jersey number retired for the deed.)

Our longest winning streak is 7 (current). Even if the unthinkable happens and we lose to Tech this year and never match their 8-game streak, will there any doubt who dominates that series these days?

No, it’s not the best possible comparison, but I humbly suggest that holding the longest winning streak in the history of a given series is not all that relevant to what’s going on today.

right

but count in all the other records for this rivalry that is held by bama and it becomes pretty relevant at least to fans of both schools.

Hey, I hate both

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Bama will continue to improve and that the current streak will, in fact, end soon (maybe even this year, maybe next). I also appreciate that being on the wrong end of a streak, whether it’s current or in the past, can be an unpleasant thing, made even more unpleasant by fans from the opposing school who feel the need to point it out repeatedly. But that’s how rivalries go. I suspect most Bama fans know it’s been a few years since they’ve won this game. I likewise suspect that most Auburn fans know they had a hard time in the era roughly bounded by Sullivan and Jackson and are behind in the over-all record.

Rivals are allowed to pick on each other for these and even less significant reasons. That they do so is not necessarily evidence they they are jerks. That they might do so in response to a post on their own blog by a rival that crows about the series record is certainly not cause for a Victorian fainting spell over manners.

Your last sentence

is what started the whole thing off. I agree with the whole being able to give crap to each other thing because that is a huge part of college athletics especially in state rivals BUT there are ways to pick and play with out coming off as rude, classless, smart @$$#$ you know. I dont know how your rivalry with GT is but here it is one of the most important things.

You may have misunderstood me

This is what it looked like to this outsider: You came to an Auburn board to brag about Bama’s holding the record for longest win streak in the series and holding the over-all series advantage. You stated your opinion (a valid one, as far as I’m concerned) that Bama’s on the rise again, suggesting it’s unlikely Auburn will be able to catch up any time soon to the over-all record or to reach nine consecutive wins. Then, when an Auburn fan responds on this Auburn Board with some jabs that weren’t exactly scandalous, you get this shocked tone and start impugning the Auburn poster’s class, as though it was simply too, too much that an Auburn fan would dare crack some joke about Bama’s historic off-the-field troubles after your brag-fest on this Auburn Board. Oh, deary me. How dare he?

Don’t worry, JJ. Since you’re oh, so sensitive, I’ve got the smelling salts right here and a hanky to fan you with if you start feelin’ a little woozy. It’ll be all right.

by NCT on May 29, 2008 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions

You must not

read everything or understand what you read or maybe both so I will try to explain one more time the reason I wrote the post I did was in response to a post previous not this one, a different post all together on the records and such just to give the writer the correct info because some of his info was not correct about both schools not just bama. I realize that you could not possibly understand this rivalry or the fans of each team because your so called rivalry is no were close being as passionate or important to the masses of your state, not to the fault of your own but maybe its because your state has other sports of concern ie. NFL, NBA, NHL?, MLB along with other attractions I am sure so I dont expect you to have a clue on this subject or me personnally because you are way of on your thoughts of me. Oh yea by the way when you guys can win the recruiting in your own state let me know and maybe when I am in town we can meet up and talk about all this fun, whitty banter! thanks and have a good day man!

weak plausible deniability

Your “explanation” notwithstanding, your motives remain transparent. My thoughts on you are based on your posts. I’ve read them more than twice. I’m an excellent reader. If I have gotten an inaccurate impression of you from your posts, I am comfortable concluding that the fault lies in your posts and not in my reading of them.

"whitty [sic]" banter

One more thing and I’ll leave you to brag about records and then get offended by wisecrack responses. On UGA’s recruiting: It’s been good enough so far to beat Bama in three out of the last three tries and go 2-2 against Saban-coached teams, so don’t worry about us too much.

by NCT on Jun 4, 2008 11:22 AM CDT up reply actions

way off

I actually feel sorry for ya man cause you seem to judge without any knowledge just writing on a computer but hey what ever floats your boat I have to much more important things in life to worry or be affected by then you or your thoughts so dont get to excited. As far as geogia again who owns the all time record that means we have been beating you longer and will continue down the line. You guys cant even get in a championship game when you have the best time in college football so I aint to concerned.

Not judging you

Just judging your posts. I know bragging about records isn’t all you meant to do (but it does seem awfully important to you), because you have, in fact, had more to say. I’ll freely admit that stepping into this was a misstep on my part. The internet’s a dangerous thing; it’s early June; I want actual football, but take what I can get. These tiny windows (internet posts) into people’s ideas, beliefs, values, and personalities are poor bases for judging anything more than the tiny window itself (that goes for you and me both). We’re all college football fans, so the chances are pretty good that we have a lot in common.

I forget sometimes. Sorry about that. I’ll try to be more mindful if our paths happen to cross again in this great, wild world. Peace.

thanks,

I agree who knows we probably would get a kick out of watching the bulldogs and the tide battle I say that because I have close friends that came over to watch the game last year it was fun until we lost but we still had a great time. Good luck and seriously no hard feelings hope to chat with you again next time we will be better suited to each others stance.

Wow. Why so condecending?

Its not like Bama owns the recruiting in Ga either. Isn’t that why they agreed to move the Clemson game to the ATL? I actually think it was a good idea as far as exposure in the state goes, but Clemson is no joke. Losing any home game is tough so it could really end up biting y’all in the butt.

by GumptownTiger on Jun 3, 2008 9:00 AM CDT reply actions

Yeah,

your right on on clemson I am concerned and pretty sure we will not come out with a win there. But on the recruiting topic we have actually owned the top recruiting in GA. the past year and definitley this years class as well. We currently have 3 of the top talents out of georgia so far with a few more on target. I think the only team to steal the top talent from that state along with us has been AU. As far as the reply post I honestly am good with people who good in return I give what I get I guess and I just dont have any patience for anyone being disrespectful with out cause or prejudging. If the only post I have done has affended any AU fans that was not my goal and I hope that if any one had any questions they would ask so I could clear up my stance or what I mean because in the end I really do just want to make some friendly connections and enjoy the passion of ALL ALABAMA football with the only other people that truely understand. My thoughts is AU and UA fans should be able to get along not hate and joke give crap until the following year that is what makes the tradition and iron bowl so great.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless
