The teams come in,
…..And LSU looks HUGE!. Look at those fireworks! The fans are fired up! Let’s hope the players are…
Byrum to kick...
……and it’s to the ten, and it’s returned all the way out over the thirty. Not so great.
3rd and 15
…..overthown and incomplete, but Ohhhh, Toliver was WIDE open deep against Merill Johnson.
LSU gets the roll,
…..and it goes down to the ONE. Dunn lost it in flight, should have been fielded.
Gotta punt!
…..Shoemaker, and it’s a shank. 39 yards, but out of bounds. 8:21 left in the first, and LSU has the ball at their own 31.
Shoemaker getting the surprise start at punter,
…..but not the best first attempt. Still no return, 39 yard net, we’ll take it!
So, LSU back on O.
…..Read option keeper by Hatch, and Blackmon has to track it down after a nine yard gain.
Punt formation
…..LSU will kick it deep, fair catch Dunn at the 23. 43-yard punt. 6:06 left in the first. War Eagle! How ’bout that defense?
Auburn starts their second possession...
…..with considerably better field position. Todd GUNS on on the out route for Trott, who can’t handle the hot pass. Nearly picked off.
3rd down.
…..Big blitz coming again. Todd guns it for Trott, can’t catch it again. Trott is NOT open on either throw!
Who punts?
…..Shoemaker. LSU called fair catch, but a DROP. Whose ball? LSU. Weird play. Not a great punt.
So, it's 4th and 4 at the Auburn 28, 2:09 left.
…..And this time, LSU goes with the kicking team. 46 yard attempt is good. 3-0 LSU.
For the kick return...
…..Auburn will go with Tristan Davis and Mario Fannin. To Davis, for nearly nothing short of the 20. High, high kickoff.
Todd comes back in.
….The Tigers will deal an inside shotgun handoff to Tate, who’s buried for a loss.
3rd and 16.
……Blitz, they hold and give Todd time, but he finds no one, and is lucky to not get called for grounding.
End of the first,
……and it’s NOT looking good for the Tigers. They are playing decent defense, but LSU is going to get some points off of individual athletic plays. The Auburn offense CANNOT run the ball, at all. Outside of Smith and Billings, none of our guys can get open, or catch the ball if it gets there. As usual, Chris Todd has at least one ball that should have been picked off. LSU has dodged TWO bullets with Trindan Holiday fumbling a pair of punts. War Eagle!
…..But we’ve got to move the ball better, or we won’t score today.
I misstyped.
…..LSU starts from the 3, and slams Charles Scott inside for a yard. Michael Goggins is down, possibly with an ankle injury.
LSU 2nd and 9.
…..I set. Scott, hit in the backfield on the sweep, but he surges forward for about 6
Possession play,
…..3rd and 3. Double tight end option. Hatch will be close, probably has it on a generous spot.
LSU 1st and 10 at the 13.
…..I-formation. Scott up the middle, hit immediately, but gets about 7, blue shirts bouncing off.
It's going to be...
…..3rd and 4. Shotgun, 2 backs. Delayed blitz, brilliant coverage by Jeraud Powers, not the best throw. 4th down!
Auburn goes on offense again...
……And it’s time for the line to get something going. LSU is playing without a free safety. What ever Auburn lines up with inside, LSU is adding an extra defender. We’ve got essentially man coverage. When we go empty in the backfield, LSU goes blitz with 6, and Todd gets clobbered. We’ve GOT to get that hot route going to the open man!
3rd and 8,
look for the rush! Empty backfield, Todd CHUNKS one up, and finds Hawthorne for a big gainer!
The point...
……is good! 7-3, Auburn! War Eagle! Great running by Tate, and a HUGE 3rd down catch by Tim Hawthorne!
Jarrett Lee in
….at QB. from the 43. Scott busts out the back side for 9 yards. Again, great blocking by LSU.
They stay in the I
…..Scott on the draw for 13. Ran into Zach Etheridge, plastic cracked, and Etheridge is down.
We're getting hammered up front.
…..LSU is manning up and blocking well. Etheridge is up and running off.
2nd and 11.
…..from the 33. Play fake, chased, Lee throws it away. Coleman contained, and pressured.
3rd and 10.
…..Auburn showing zone. Thows underneath, Merrill blanketed the tight end, incomplete! Great play!
Dalfrey to punt...
…..a HOWITZER, Dunn lets it go, again. ???? 58 yards. Dunn had only one defender down there, too. We’re backed up to the 11.
A little more than 4 minutes left in the half...
……And we need Todd to settle down and make good decisions!
2nd and 5.
……Trips to the short side. Fake, Todd slips, but he’s still SO open that he gets 11! There’s a flag…
4th and short,
LSU calls timeout with 1:47 left. Big series coming up for the Auburn defense! Trying to preserve that 7-3 lead!
Lee back in for LSU
…..Shotgun. McKenzie snares an EASY pick six! A screen, and Lee bloops it to a former tight end! They’re NOT… GONNA… GET ‘IM!! Touchdown, Auburn! Byrum’s kick is good! 14-3 Auburn!
Clock runs.
…..Under a minute. Option. Hatch fights for about 9, hammering. Clock down to 31 seconds, 3rd and short.
LSU will kick off to start the second half.
……Auburn puts Mario Fannin and Tristan Davis back again. LSU kicks it DEEP into the end zone.
Here come the Tigers!
……Todd from the shotgun. Rolls left, scrambles for his life, then finds Billings, who turns it into an 8 yard gain.
Stepping it up.
…..Awkward chuck to Rod Smith, who slithers for another first off the hitch. LSU should bite down on those. Too much cushion!
Moving quickly...
…..Press coverage, read option, they shove him out after another first down! Todd the runner!
Possession play for Auburn.
…..Handoff Tate, and he loose a bunch, but LSU mugs Tate out of bounds, and we get a flag!
3rd and long.
…..Expect a blitz. Todd cowers, and is buried out at the 35. Saw it coming two hundred miles away.
The read option worked a little, when Todd kept it,
…..but LSU came up and really took the backs away. Todd REALLY didn’t need to take that big sack, either. Cost us three points.
Lee will go in,
…..shotgun. Auburn blitzes, but doesn’t cover the tight end. Dixon picks up the first on the quick throw.
From the AU 40
…..LSU shotgun. High screen pass, over LaFell’s head. Had a blocker, but probably not much room to run.
3rd and 10.
……A huge blitz, he had time, then got nailed, threw falling, to Mitchel at the goal line, caught, TD LSU. Big play for LSU, beating a freshman Auburn corner.
Biggest downer of the night.
…..Neiko Thorpe was there on the post, but couldn’t knock the ball out. Perfect throw.
Auburn's back is now against the wall.
…..At the LSU 42, Lee throws short over the middle to Murphy, hit immediately.
On 4th down,
….Dunn fair catches at the 12. Good JOB! Hats off to the Auburn defense for bowing up, and keeping this game from getting away!
On first down, backed up to the 13,
…..Auburn goes two back, hands off inside to Lester, and he fumbles. We got it back, somehow, with a gain! Tyrone Green falls on it.
2nd and 3
…..Swings it out to Lester, to the LSU 41, first down, twisted down, and oh no. That looks like a bad knee injury…
Tate comes in for Lester,
…..at the LSU 41. Tight press look. Todd checks off. Back to zone. Todd doesn’t recognize, an throws into it. Lucky it wasn’t picked!
Possession play.
…..Todd will face a big blitz. QB draw, very close to the first down. A little short, I think.
It's...
…..Under center. Fake, roll out, throw to Tristan Davis, terrible throw, picked off. About like a punt, though.
LSU has a chance, but...
…..they’re backed up. From the 11, Lee hands to Scott, hammers for 11 right up the gut!
At the Auburn 22...
…..LSU lines up again. I set. Pitch to Keiland WIlliams, half back pass, secondary totally LOST. TD, LSU.
LSU leads...
…..17-14, at the end of the third. an 89 yard drive in 4 plays, and Auburn trails 17-14.
Gary Crowton has made a commitment to...
…..Throwing on first down with his young quarterback, and Auburn can’t both stop the run, AND cover all of LSU’s options at receiver. What will Paul Rhodes do, during the break?
Auburn's back is to the wall, in this one.
……It’s up to this team, and this crowd, to come back up off the mat and knock out a victory.
This time,
…..It’s to the 10. Davis tries to cut inside, but the blocking isn’t there. Down at the 25.
With 12:15 left,
…..must punt. WHERE is Durst? Shoemaker will hit another lousy punt, but Auburn gets the roll inside the 10! It goes for 49 yards!
It's first down,
……for LSU. Handoff Scott, for 9 to the 25. The Auburn line is being MAN-handled. Double team Marks, stand everyone else up.
Throwback screen,
……Auburn flails helplessly at the ankles. A 24 yard LSU gain. This one is getting away.
Second and nine,
…..Lee misses LaFell on an out. He was open, would have either been 9 yards or a first.
3rd and 9.
…..LSU wound it down, and had to call timeout. 9:19 left in the game. Huge play coming up. I would not be surprised to see Miles go deep down the middle on this one. Our safeties have been absent against the post.
It's on Lee.
……If Jarrett Lee makes a big play, he attains folk hero status. Should he make a mistake, and turn it over… A lot of pressure!
The defense has clawed and scratched us to this point,
……but now the Auburn offense must produce. Chris Todd will be measured by the Auburn fan base on the throws he makes during this drive. He must be accurate. He must make the correct reads. He CANNOT throw it to LSU! Pressure on Todd, because if we don’t move it this time, the game’s probably over.
Kickoff coming...
……We’re too far back, but it’s not onsides. Davis fumbles, but gets his hands back on it!
Chris Todd in.
…..Throws a hitch, too high, into zone. Smith hung out, and it could have been picked off.
Todd Rolls,
……improvises, and finds a WIDE open Tim Hawthorne, and a foot race out of bounds to the LSU 15!
On 3rd down...
……Empty again. Here comes LSU! Todd under pressure, LOFTS it, DUNN is WIDE OPEN! Back of the End zone! TOUCHDOWN, AUBURN!
A tough situation for LSU
…..Zone for Auburn. 3 man rush. Deep out, missed. Missed communication, I think.
Now, we face...
…..The question of how to run the clock with the spread. And Tate gets the shotgun handoff for a yard loss. That didn’t fool anyone…
2nd and 11, clock running.
…..We go empty backfield, and throw the ball way out of bounds!?! What was THAT?!
2nd and 4 at..
…..midfield. AU leads, 21-20. Slip screen to Mitchel, first down at the Auburn 42. Took a long time to develop, but blocked well.
At the Auburn 17, clock runs.
……I set. Brandon Lafell on the out, beats Zach Etheridge, and Lafell turns the corner for the score.
LSU leads 26-21, going for two...
……Spread, throws out of bounds. Auburn trails 26-21, with 1:03 left. Auburn has two timeouts.
SO, on the kickoff, what does Tuberville have left?
…..Time for a big play. LSU will kick it to Tate at the 25, out across the 35.
1st down...
From the LSU 47. Todd will get sacked for a BIG loss. Can’t hold it when they blitz. Ziemba was cooked, on that one. Thinking about the after the game party, I guess.
Last chance....
……What will happen on 4th and 25? 32 seconds left. Todd will throw it short, and it’s over. Rod Smith, 4 yards short.
LSU takes a knee,
…..And it’s over. LSU wins, 26-21. War Eagle. Good effort by the Tigers, but it’s not enough.
TUBERVILLE AND COACHING STAFF OUT COACHED!!
I am not sure if if is b/c Auburn lost , but I think they were out coached! 2 trick plays! I have no confidence in this crap offense. Play calling was terrible. Seems like they can go option right or option left! I know I can’t be the only one feeling this way!!
Way to go Defense!!
Old School...
Old school Auburn could have definately beat LSU… The spread just isnt working yea the game was close but thats only because we have a defense putting up points. And there have been tooo many situations Kodi should have been in the game to get needed first downs… I agree with you Acid the spread hasnt proved anything imo… War Eagle!
Wait a minute!!!!!!!!
I didn’t say this. Someone was on my computer. Yet I agree Auburn should have won but they didn’t manage the clock at the end of the game. Roll Tide!
Wow
We have the ball. I learened in Midget football to use up the clock as much as possible with the lead and under 5 min to play. We go 3 and out? That cost us the game period!!
