Auburn Ranks Fourth In Scout.com Recruiting Rankings

Fulmer_medium
Could this be Phil Fulmer's last visit to Auburn?

You can probably tell from the stories run on Track'em Tigers that I'm not a person that puts a whole lot of stock in recruiting rankings.  Count me among those who don't believe you can compare a tight-end in Georgia with another one in Oregon and then rank one ahead of the other.

Sure you can evaluate talent and acknowledge that a kid has the skills to make it.  But when looking at elite athletes can you really tell the difference between two talented kids who play in different states at different high school classifications?

For some of you, those comments are akin to being slapped across the face. Many of you live and die by where Scout and Rivals ranks Auburn each year.  That's cool.  The chase is always fun, whether it be a woman or a five-star recruit.

Why am I saying all of this? Scout.com revealed this week its top 25 football team recruiting rankings. Who says USC is number one? In this poll, Ohio State holds the top spot in the early recruiting wars.

Where does Auburn rank? They come in at number four nationally. That's quite an improvement over a year ago. The top five looks like this...

  1. Ohio State
  2. USC
  3. Texas
  4. Auburn
  5. LSU

The SEC places seven schools in the top 25, with Auburn leading the way. Alabama comes in at number 12. If Tommy Tuberville can get all these guys committed to sign on the dotted line in February, it could be one of the best classes ever... if you believe in these kinds of things.

Call me strange, but I've always been fascinated by webcams. Now before you start calling me a pervert, let me say that I'm referring to the clean ones - those put in public places to view mountain scenes or beaches. It's cool to be able to watch what's happening in other parts of the country. Jackson Hole, Wyoming is my favorite place on earth behind Jordan-Hare Stadium. I regularly check the place out on various webcams. It's just plain cool.

Now the University and the city of Auburn have gotten into the act in a big way. Recently, they installed 16 cameras around the University to allow alumni and fans to peak into the community and see what's happening on any given day. There's also a camera placed on Toomer's Corner that's run by another group.  Be sure to click on the links below and check them out.

And.....

Can the kid:
  - Get up on time to get to class??
  - Be on time to meetings when mom and dad aren’t there to remind him and get out the door??
  - Handle adversity on his own when he fails a test or gets beat out at a positiion??
  - STAY OUT OF TROUBLE
  - Have the attitude to compete for his position since he is going to against the best of the best
  - Handle seeing his girlfriend at the bar or party with another man (or woman)??
  - Be able to handle criticism from the fans?? :-P

You get my point!!! Rankings are important because they at least give an indication of the skills and athleticism of the athlete. But as we all know having gone through school (which ever it was) and now being in the real world. There is so much more to combat than what happens on the grid iron. That is why I agree with Tuberville and his importance on character. We are VERY RARELY in headlines for anything other than what happens on the field. AND THAT MAKES ME PROUD OF THE PROGRAM!!! That in combination with a competitive team(s) is what MAKES AUBURN FOOTBALL and AUBURN UNIVERSITY!!!

War Damn Eagle…..Lets whip UT and show them why they appropriately chose Pansy Ass Orange!!!

Good Article

I glad you posted the rankings. I’m with most of you in the sense that i don’t put a whole lot of stock into recruiting service rankings. However, In this case hopefully it wil shutup the fans who keep screaming that we don’t get any good recruits. That CTT can’t compete on the recruiting trail. I mean if the services like Rivals and Scout.com say that we aren’t that good of recruiters then it must be so, right? Well guys it appears that we will finish in the top 10 of those services this year. So quit whining…..

I hope we beat the snot outta Tennesse. Its always nice to have winning “STREAKS” against strong teams in the SEC. Knudge, Knudge….Poke, Poke….

# recruits?

How many recruits is Auburn allowed to bring to the plains? I see that they have 25 verbal commits, but how many are they allowed to sign and give scholarships to?

Going by this roster it looks like you only have about 15 SR’s. The chances of those all being Scholly players are low so you’ve probably got 12-14 scholly’s opening up due to graduation. Let’s pretend that another 3-5 leave the team due to medical reasons, breaking team rules (or fights with Auburn DB’s). You are looking at a max of like 20 scholarships I’d think. Combine that with the probability of 1-3 of your current signees not making the grades to enroll, and then you are looking at 3-5 guys taking gray shirts. Of course the recruiting services don’t take all of this into account when they rank your recruiting classes, just the total number of guys who give Tubbs their verbal.

I think yall will have a better class than last year, but I doubt it finishes in the top 10. I’d say a consensus top 15 is probable though.

I just looked this up as a comparison...

Right now, AU has 3305 “points”, if you look at where that would have placed them last year, it is 18th, which is exactly what AU was ranked last year. Only last year you had 3236 “points” with 28 commitments so your average per player wasn’t as good as it is this year.

I still say AU ends up with a top 15 class though. If the numbers are to be trusted, there is a lot of speed in yall’s signing class this year.

I guess my question is how many more players can Auburn have verbally commit to them, because I know that they are going after some top-tier wide receivers.

And what I’m saying is it looks like you are already over the limit, so who knows…
