Auburn offers Rocker

Rivals.com Bryan Matthews is reporting CGC has extended an offer to former Outland trophy winner and Tiger great Tracy Rocker the D line coaching position. Any of yall that have been following out tiger team for awhile remember what a stud Rocker was. Rocker currently coaching the D line at Ole Miss  who had a pretty darn good defensive line this year. Rocker, who was also awarded the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award as a senior, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. This would be GREAT for our team if it comes to fruition

My answer to the poll question would be

“It shouldn’t be the first factor we look at, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.”

Example: If we hired Pat Nix to be our OC, that would have been a bad decision, and one likely based solely on his being an alumnus. However, if we look at Tracy Rocker as a solid coach already, AND he went to Auburn, then that’s just icing on the cake.

I tend to agree, it should not be the only factor, however in Rocker’s case he is a proven coach as well as tiger legend. Nix would have been a debacole, I see him a a qb coach at best.

Ah, yes,...Tracy Rocker,...

I can still vividly remember sitting in Jordan-Hare stadium many years ago and all Auburn fans chanting his name over and over again on a very important defensive stand on 3rd down. I forget who the opposing team was right now, but I believe it was one of the upper echelon SEC teams that season. Anyway,…Rocker was so pumped on the play,…when the ball snapped,…he bull rushed right over the opposing offensive lineman like he wasn’t even there,…and then went right through a big running back simply trying to slow Rocker down,…all to no avail. Rocker ran right through both of them hardly breaking stride and sacked the QB. Needless to say,…Auburn fans went wild on that play. Definitely an awesome player in his day. Rocker had several plays like that over his career at Auburn, but that one in particular stands out in my mind.

Would love to see him come back to Auburn. Bring him home, Coach Chizik and Coach Roof.

Tracy The Beast

My CSC for the sake of our beloved players and especially the recruits, lock on to Tracy Rocker. He’s an Auburn Man. Skills in coaching, Class, Carisma, compassion for positions of trust and responsibility. He’s a winner.

I really

want to cry for joy right now. If we can get or guys to play up to half what he did….man it would be great. You know he is going to be pumped to come back to Auburn. I see him maybe being the DC in 2 years. It would be a great move to learn under Chizik.

The guy is good.

Chizik might just be assembling the best coaching staff at Auburn pound for pound we’ve had in a long, long time.
