Can someone enlighten me?
I see that Jonathon Evans and Terrence Coleman are heading to Tennessee this weekend and Coleman is quoted as saying "My aunt wanted me to go to Tennessee and see what I like about it. But like I said, I like Auburn. Things might change, but right now I like Auburn." I don't understand this mentality.
Auburn isn't the only school, by far, with players that are "committed" that have this attitude. Why commit to a school if you aren't committed to it and are still looking around? I understand that circumstances change, it is bound to happen and this could instigate a change, but if you are continuing to look while nothing has change, then why commit to begin with?
At this point, I am so sick of Coleman's crap and attittude that I kind of hope he doesn't make to the plains. He has committed and decommitted, then he recommitted and now he is looking around again and saying that we are tied with Arkansas but he is still committed to Auburn. None of this makes since to me. Look around until you decide on a school and stick with it. How hard is this? Don't commit to a school unless you are sure.
Last year showed me something that Auburn is in desperate need of, heart. We don't need to pick up players that don't want to play for Auburn, we need players that want to be there.

You don't understand...
because you have never been in their position. They have several schools vying for their attention daily. Can you blame a kid for visiting a school where he will receive a exorbitant amount of attention, eat well, and meet other top recruits? I can’t.
It’s got nothing to do with “heart” or any other homer BS attitude. It’s got to do with their future and where they will succeed.
hey jackhole.
I am just trying to figure out why they would commit before they are ready to commit. I am not bashing them for changing their minds, but I am asking why they commit before they are 100% sure of where they want to go. This isn’t homer BS attitude as you put it, this is an honest question.
What else do you want?
How about you look up his number and call him yourself? Because that is the only way you will truly know. You asked and I offered my opinion. No one is 100% sure of ANYTHING. It has been said 1000 times over the recruiting season: these are 18 yr old kids and you can’t expect them to make a decision and stick with it.
I hope AU recruits are reading this and see your attitude. You don’t have their best interest in mind, you have your own.
The only baby I've ever wanted to punch in the face...
Hey BABY!! Matt is expressing FRUSTRATION! You should be familiar with it, if you were a fan of the Turds prior to this year. If you can’t understand why someone would be frustrated with a person who commits —or gives his word -— and then de-commits —or breaks his word -- then obviously you aren’t a big believer in values, convictions, honesty or truth. Those of us who DO believe in those things, get frustrated by those who cavalierly discard them at their leisure. I don’t believe anyone begrudges an 18yr old the opportunity to change their mind, but if you aren’t sure about your decision why commit? There is absolutely no need to commit early whatsoever unless you are looking for something in return….such as an incentive to break your commitment.
I agree with Matt, if you don’t want to be at Auburn, don’t commit. We know we can’t be all things to all people, but if someone wants to be a part of a family where your contributions will always be appreciated, in a lovely small collegiate town setting, then Auburn is a great place to go to school. If you are looking for “the best deal” offered on your way to the NFL, Auburn is probably not where you need to enroll. We need guys that play as a team and who want to win for themselves AND Auburn, all others need not apply. Hope that explains it for you, baby.
On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?
I didn't need an explanation...
Mattco did. Your entire post missed the issue entirely (not a surprise). I see how you called me a ‘baby’ because of my profile pic…that was a good one…no really, we all laughed…I promise.
But seriously, it’s like you guys were the last to get the memo on how recruiting operates. Recruits change their minds…and if I were an early recruit and I saw the disarray that Auburn underwent, I would probably rethink my commitment too. The kid (and many other recruits) obviously want to see what else is out there. Stop whining about ethics and honesty – you are dealing with athletes that are making decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. They have a right to change their minds.
Little word of note: If you want AU to try and find their own identity, it would be best not to mention an AL coach in your signature. Please let the Bear die, as you all like to say so often.
If appears that you're the one with an identity problem.
You’re an irrational BAMMER hanging out in an Auburn Forum and giving advice to someone who has told you that he doesn’t care what you think. Why don’t you just drop it, get a life, and find an identity of your own in a BAMMER forum.
After the $200K Albert Means fiasco, I don’t think that anyone here wants any recruting advice from a BAMMER.
While you’re handing out advice, maybe you could give “Nick the Prick” some advice on how to stop Utah. He could probably use some advice after the disaster in New Orleans.
ok. let's try this again.
Brandon, lil fella, try reading the post again before you start attacking someone. I am not bashing Coleman for his decommitment, I am asking why he would come back and recommit and then start talking about other teams being tied with Auburn for his time. I actually do have their best interest in mind. I just don’t understand why they commit so early if they aren’t sure and that is the entire point of the post. Angus was actually much closer to answering the actual question than you ever did.
If I were being highly recruited by several large schools you can bet your ass I would take all of the visits I was allowed, but I wouldn’t commit to a school until I knew where I wanted to go.
I can’t blame a single player that was committed to Auburn before Tubs left for decommitting and opening up their recruitment again. They don’t know if they are going to fit into the new coach’s game plan or even if they want you at all. What you gave me in your first post wasn’t you opinion as much as it was a piss-poor attempt to bash someone asking an honest question.
I think you need to brush up on your diction...
and figure out what words mean. They ACTUALLY have a meaning when you say them, you know. For instance, when you say you “commit”: definition: to obligate or pledge oneself: to carry into action deliberately: to put into charge or trust.
I know most of you “know” what that means but I assert that you don’t understand the meaning if you feel that saying you commit means nothing, especially to a 17 year old kid. I would hope a kid has better morals than an adult. If he doesn’t its our obligation to educate him. I know how recruiting works and, to be blunt, its whats wrong with college football, but thats another debate entirely. I know that people understand this deep down because when a recruit de-commits everyone feels at least a little betrayed.
I find it really amusing, but not at ALL surprising that a Bammer dismisses the notion of living by values and ethics…I mean you do pride yourself in churning out individuals that pervert justice and subvert the laws of this country. I’m not at all opposed to a kid changing his mind, they just need to get educated about what giving a commitment is and take that seriously. I think our kids need to be raised better than this.
Oh and as far as my tag line is concerned, I only bring up the Bear to annoy you guys who always bring up the “tradition” that has been over since long before any current student was ever born. I’m proud of Shug Jordan, but he has about as relevant to a debate on Auburn football today as a helmet with a two bar face mask. If you want to come on our site, why don’t you debate intelligently, and be a tad more respectful like LSU Jonno. But then again your profile pic is of a petulant and angry infant….rather apprapo, so I should be more understanding of your conduct….but I suffer fools rather poorly.
On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?
I agree with almost everything you say
But don’t give me that “You don’t have their best interest in mind” crap. What if Julio had to transfer to Auburn “for his best interest”? Would you be angry at him? What if Fluker changed his mind and went to LSU? You would just be all peaches? No, you wouldn’t. Most of these kids will have a great career no matter what school they choose. So as far as “best interests” go, there’s not too much of a difference.

Just wait until Wednesday...
At least one of Bama’s current commits WILL be going to LSU. And then you’ll be able to ask brandonh how he really feels about it.
Old news.
everyone already knew he would commit if LSU offered. He has been an LSU fan for life and Miles wasn’t interested until Saban was. You can have him. I feel fine.
It's not the same as giving your word
You know who takes the word “commit” seriously? Fans. No one else. Coaches don’t stop recruiting a player when he “commits” to another school — so why should we expect the player to mean something different by the word than anyone else does?
Look, imagine you’re 18, and a coach you’ve seen on TV has spent a weekend telling you how great you are and showing you a locker with your number and name, and flashed your picture on the stadium JumboTron, and introduced you to 1,000 sorority girls who all know your name, and then takes for a walk and puts his arm around you and says, so, can we count on you committing to our school? And you’re flattered and impressed and starry-eyed, and you say yes.
But then maybe that coach leaves for another job at the school he was just bashing to you, or he gets fired, or you find out he’s recruiting four other kids at your position, or you read something about how he always signs more kids than he has actual scholarships for, and all these other coaches are still calling, and they’re also telling you how great you are, and they have JumboTrons and sorority girls and locker rooms, too, and what’s the harm in listening to what they have to say …
If it were unethical for a kid to keep taking visits once he’s committed, it would be 1,000 times more unethical for coaches to keep recruiting kids who are committed to some other school. Look, it’s a cynical business, and it’s really, really unfair to decide that every little thing that comes of some kid’s mouth is his absolute and finally binding word, and that if he even looks at some other school, he’s an unloyal backstabber.

It's like this
Matt I’m not gonna bash you like most everyone else has cause that’ll just get ya no where. The answer to your question goes like this. First off some of these kids might by at the youngest 17 years old, most of them are going to be real fickle at that age. I don’t like it, you don’t like it and a lot of others feel the same way but that is just the way things are. Please don’t take this as me bashing you or hitting you but I doubt you can tell me with any honesty that you ever de-committed from something in your lifetime even if it isn’t about football. I know I have. A while back I was committed to play Outside Linebacker for a division IIA school but de-commited and enlisted in the Army instead thus giving up football altogether.

I really enjoy the fans from other teams who have nothing better to do than sit on an Auburn forum saying stuff as if they’re giving some sort of logical input. We’re not on your boards, go away.
I really enjoy whining when fans from other teams who give their opinion to spark some conversation on an Auburn forum saying stuff as if they’re actually contributing to the blog. We’re not crying all over your boards, please stop making us look foolish.
You gotta take it easy man. You can’t stay mad at the world forever.
A commit isn’t really a commit until they send in their LOI…..that being said, people change their minds. A school has only a set number of commits that they can take and need to have a prospect at least give them some indication of whether they will sign with them or not so the school knows whether to continue persuing or not. A player can give a soft verbal to a school and still be looking around to keep his options open in case his offer is pulled because the school took someone else at the same position. If a kid says he’s commited and never looks at anyone else and then his offer is pulled or multiple players are taken at his position and he thinks he might not se playing time…..the kids scrwed cause by then the offers from other schools are gone because they’ve taken someone else. You can’t blame a kid for having a fallback plan……their lives depend on this decision….let them look around.
