Powers to NFL

Per AL.com, Jarraud Powers is gone.

Auburn junior cornerback Jerraud Powers will forgo his final year of college eligibility and enter the NFL draft, the Press-Register has learned.

The university will release the news later this afternoon, but Powers will not have a press conference.

A native of Decatur, Powers was one of Auburn's most reliable defensive backs the last two seasons. He was a freshman all-SEC selection in 2006.

Are you for real?

I mean, he was a good DB, but leave college early good? I’m not seeing it…

Here’s wishing him the best, though

Prob better to have stayed one more year

I wish him luck. Maybe he isn’t as optimistic about Chizik as he was to start out.

That sucks...

I was really hoping he would stay. Who is going to replace him do you think?

Now's the time...

…to really start pressing that dog bite incident….

Good for him

I hope he does well.

uh, ok.

Not sure about this one, I thought it was a joke when I heard he was considering and now I think that this might be one of the dumbest things I have heard. He better really impress at the combine to just get drafted in the third. But I am not sure that I see him even being drafted by the fifth or sixth. This doesn’t make a lot of sense.

As far as who will replace him, Neiko and Lipscomb got a lot of playing time this year and grew up a good bit. A spring under Chizik will forge those two into solid corners.

Powers is a good DB...

He’ll get drafted but likely not on the first day. I think the whole rookie signing cap thing has a lot of kids thinking about coming out that normally wouldn’t. I don’t know the specifics of all of that but maybe he feels he’ll get more green this way.

Good luck to the kid.

To leave early

without being a day one pick is just foolish.

Not a great move, but he might make it.

I don’t blame him. I don’t think he was that good, but if he needs the money now he needs the money now. I wish him the best and maybe he’ll be another great AU pro-product that will cause more recruits to look our way in the future.

Powers is a long shot.

…..A very long shot. He’s only 5’9", and even when healthy, is slower than SEC receivers. He makes up for it with smarts and good technique, but he’s not NFL material. For at least half of this past season, Rhodes had Powers playing 10-12 yards off the line of scrimmage, to keep him from being beaten deep. Powers SO needed another year, to get stronger and faster!

…..This will be one of those deals where he ends up either in Europe, or in the Arena leagues, playing for $200 a game.

You mean Canada....

the NFL Europe and the Arena League are no more. I agree that he is a late round pick right now at best. One more season of hard work and improvement could have seen him sneak into a 3rd round or even late 2nd round realistically as it is he will be lucky to make the squad that drafts him. Someone is giving this kid bad advice.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

the Arena Football league announced its demise this past summer or fall.
