Hmmm...
I don’t really know alot about the guy. Sure like you i can look at his stats at the various schools he has coached at but i don’t really know how good the guy is, what kinda recruiter he is, motivator, game day planner and adjustor.
Todd, Acid, POD i’m gonna have to rely on ya’ll for input on this one.
I remember...
When Tubs talked about getting him a few years ago when Muschamp was hired. But thats about all i know.
All I really know about the guy is he didn't do too much at Duke as HC
I’ll have to research further

Cool thanks
Its a mess on al.com trying to get information there. First off its over-run with errogant bammers. Not that they should be talking after that beating. But hey its bama fans we’re talking about here. And i don’t trust most of the other comments cause i don’t think they really know.
I hope he can recruite
regardless of his record at duke he does have experience at HC position which means he shows alot of progress as a Defensive coordinator so i feel good about this hire
Gotta Love those "classy" Tide Detergent Box Hats
Coaching Highlights
- Veteran defensive coach comes to Minnesota after serving as head coach at Duke University for four seasons.
- As Duke’s defensive coordinator and interim head coach, coached two players – Chris Douglas and Matt Zielinski – to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team. It was the first time the school had two first-team all-conference selections in 10 years.
- Improved a Duke defense that ranked 113th in the nation in total defense in 2001 to a No. 58 ranking (and the top spot in the ACC) one season later.
- As defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, his 2000 unit ranked No. 12 in the nation in rushing defense and No. 20 in scoring defense. Roof was nominated for the Broyles Award, given to the top assistant coach in the nation following the 2000 season.
- In 2001 under Roof, the Yellow Jackets were again one of the top defenses in the nation, ranking 23rd nationally in total defense and 32nd in rushing defense.
- Roof’s defensive units at Georgia Tech helped Yellow Jackets to a 35-1- overall record, four consecutive bowl berths and the 1998 ACC Co-Championship during his tenure.
- Inducted into Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.
- Spent 1997 season as defensive coordinator at Western Carolina, where one of his charges – Marcus Bradley – set a school record for single-season tackles (145).
- Coached at Massachusetts for three seasons, two as defensive coordinator. Three Minuteman defenders earned All-America honors and during Roof’s tenure.
- Recruiting efforts during first stint at Duke (1990-93) helped lay the foundation for the Blue Devils’ 8-4 mark and Hall of Fame Bowl berth
His pass defense ranked dead last in 2000
Not only in the state of Georgia, not only in the ACC, but in the WHOLE COUNTRY. This is sending up a HUGE red flag for me.

He didn't have the talent at Defensive Back....
and I still wonder if Chizik won’t have the Tampa 2 installed at AU again? Regardless with Chizik being a defensive guy I doubt that the Defense will be a concern.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
fair enough
I just hope you’re right on this on, Todd.
the roof
the roof , the roof, the roof is on fire,, we don’t need no water let the mother ###### burn.
Recruiting
I’ve heard he’s a good recruiter. Besides, Chizik covers the secondary. I’m not worried about that at all really. He’ll handle the rest.
