damn it.

My first instinct when I look at any poll is to look for Auburn and I forgot that we stunk this year…

Check...

…your second instinct. How’s they end up 6th in both polls after dropping their last two games? Obviously, I’m biased, but I thought they’d end up around 10th…

Me too...

but we all know they are in that spot because the POLSTERS ARE BIASED toward them and always have been !

yeah.

I am not sure how they ended up 6th, but I didn’t think they would end up 10th either. I was thinking 8. But in the defense of Alabama, they did lose to 1 and 2 so I guess 6 isn’t a far stretch. The same can be said for Texas Tech after getting destroyed in the bowl game by a team that ended up lower ranked than them.

i mean i hate Bama as much as the next guy...

but who the heck should be ranked ahead of them? 6 sounds about right. they lost a close game to #1 and got drug up and down the field in a game they didnt care much about.

i still think USC and Florida should have to play each other on a neutral field next weekend and then i’d feel like an actual champion was crowned.

In the AP poll yes

However, in the Coaches poll Utah was 4th, which if you ask me is ridiculous if Alabama is 6. Rankings-they never make any sense.

2nd straight year there will be much debt on who’s really the best team in the country. Our sport is turning into a joke!!! But I don’t care, this is only helping us get to a playoff. Read a article the other day about the $2 billion the NCAA has turned down because they like the tradition. The only game that still has tradition is the Rose Bowl and for that I HATE the Pac 10 and Big 10 even more then ever. I now sole blame them for continuing to ruin college football.

Evolve

tradition is for oldmen stuck in the past. PLAYOFF PLAYOFF PLAYOFF. storm the castles and bring me the heads of the presidents. quit screwing us out of a real champion.

Because...

Enough time has passed from USC dropping a ho-hum conference game for everyone to start to believe that they’re invincible again…

Vegas laid down some hypothetical odds yesterday: Florida would be a 14 point favorite over Utah, 5 points over USC…

14?

Wow that seems a little bit high. Utah beat Alabama worse than Florida did…

And there’s no reason USC should ever lose a game. They may be the most talented football team I’ve ever seen.

Give Pete Caroll two or more weeks to prepare and they are unbeatable

There's no reason they shouldn't be on about a like 50-2 streak

Really the only losses they’ve had recently that weren’t complete upsets were to Oregon last year and to Texas in the MNC game a few years ago. The only team that has beaten USC recently is itself. The talent is there to beat anybody in the country, including the Detroit Lions. However, they can’t avoid the monumental upset year-in and year-out.

I don't disagree with you....

that they are one of the most if not the most talented teams every year. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the best team. As far as who has beaten USC, I watched them get pounded up the middle by Oregon State, that was no fluke, Jaquizz Rogers continually ran between the tackles and ate up the yards and the clock. And no they are good but even the Detroit Lions are more talented than USC…..there is not a college team that can play with an NFL team…that is no slight towards USC it is just the fact of the matter. And whether its a brain fart or a Laisez Faire attitude it does not matter….if they want to claim they are the best they have every opportunity to prove it on the field. If Pete Carroll is as good a coach as they say then why with such superior talent are they prone to the “upset” every year. If indeed the talent is as good as billed at USC then Pete Carroll should be considered an “underachiever”. I for one think the answer lies somewhere in the middle and that USC has considerable talent every year but not necessarily that much better than most perenial top 15 schools and no better than the top eschelon of the SEC and Big 12. And in saying that Pete Carroll is certainly one of the best 10 coaches but not necessarily that much better than most of them if any. That same Oregon State team, by the way, got trounced by Penn State and beat by Utah, and while I subscribe to the train of thought that one team may match up against one opponent better than another overall better team, that is the coaches responsibility to put his team in the circumstances that will overcome any weakness created by matchups. Having said that you can say that Mike Riley “out coached” the coach whose team “given two weeks to prepare is unbeatable”.

The difference is...

…that the Pac 10 teams don’t panic with USC like other teams do. It’s just another game for them, and they can show up and beat them.

Another things hampering USC these days is the fact that the PAC 10 is pretty weak and it doesn’t have a conference CG. Sure, all their teams play each other but it’s not the same as having that one last definitive layer of competition…
