Chizik's Stock Is Rising

Fellow Tigers,

I think most of us felt dynamically different four weeks ago about our program. After our new fearless leader made some outstanding moves including the hiring of two of Okie state's best asst coaches, Taylor and Luper both excellent recruiters. We have the #1 prospect in the country visiting courtesy of Luper. Bastrop La. Reuban Randle a Five star receiver is set to visit the plains later this month. This is huge, you never know he could fall in love with AU like we did and be a TIGER ! Luper was in Wichita Kansas making a visit to Bryce Brown, the two watched thenatl title game together. If your not fimilar with Brown he is an absolute stud. Brown is rated one of the top 5 backs in the nation. Both recruits are still outside shots but when was the last time we had two of the top 10 recruits in the country with a sincere interest ? Raymond Cotton is also back n the mix thanks to Willis being retained. Lastly, I know most of yall watched Malzahn who I  refer to as the Zohan coach the Golden Hurricane to a rout and a 40 plus point performance over Ball St Tuesday night. Chizik's stock is rising in my book.

I agree for the most part.

I still want to know about our defensive line coach. Plus, while he is working hard on the recruiting trail, he doesn’t seem to be bringing many guys in to commitment. I love the attempts but we’ve got to pick up somebody or we’re going to be in really situation. Who knows, we might get one or two off these ultra studs. Next year, I expect better recruiting results. We have the talent to carry us through this upcoming season. I’m not really worried about that much. With these great new hires, 7-5 doesn’t seem to improbable. Furthermore, I’m okay with 5-7 if we look headed in the right direction. Hell, I could even stand 4-8 if we’re improving. Though, if we’re improving I have a hard time seeing how we’d be 4-8. That’s one game worse than last year.

Ted Roof just concerns me the more I think about him. Everyone’s defense has been that he’s not that bad. I’m not too thrilled with a “Not that bad” coach. That means everybody is either saying he isn’t any good or he isn’t all that great. I have yet to really hear anybody come out and say that he’s awesome and they’re terribly excited he’s coming to the Plains. That, does really concern me quite a lot. In addition, what other spots do we need filled and who are the names being mentioned at this point?

Well I'm excited about Roof...

Yeah he wasn’t a good head coach at Duke, but he is a hell of a DC. There is a difference. I live in Atlanta and see a lot of Ga Tech games. Roof really had a good defensive scheme and put a lot of pressure of QB’s and stopped the run when he was at Tech under O’Leary. That is something we really struggled with this year. I didn’t even know he was on the radar screen until I heard about Chizik hiring him but I think it is an exceptional hire. For as much of a cheerleader DC Wil Muschamp is, Ted Roof is a cerebral DC….I’ll take him over a Muschamp any day of the week…working with Chizik makes it just that much better. If they can check their egos at the door and allow themselves to help each other, we could see some exciting defensive play.

On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?

I agree Angus....

Roof is a very good DC he just hasn’t been at a top program to show exactly what he can do. At Tech you are only going to get so many great atheletes. At Minnesota he inherited limited talent and improved them significantly in one season. Get him in a major program in the SEC with top Defensive talent and he should do well….especially with Chizik there to consult. I would think that after his Duke HC experience he doesn’t have too much of an ego to contend with so that should’nt be a problem. I will be dissapointed with anything less than a .500 season and won’t be thrilled with that….it would be different if the cupboards were bare but they are not….a 7-5 or 8-4 season is realistic and anything better would be a bonus. As far as the recruiting goes I am very optimistic that we will finish strong and end up with a top 15 maybe a top 10 class if everything goes very well. I am thirsty for imformation but not much is being supplied by rivals or scouts at the moment as to whom is close to committing but there are quite a few blue chippers that have added AU as a school being considered as of the last 10 days or so.

I hate to see Blackmon going to the CFL and Slaughter dropping out. Blackmon could have gone to the NFL as at least a 3rd rounder had he stuck around and had a full season to showcase what he is capable of. Slaughter from my understanding has had a rough time of it the last couple of months and his head is not in the academics or the football program. Good luck to them both. War Eagle.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
