Auburn should produce a LOT more yards against Arkansas, this year!
(Auburn at Arkansas, open thread!)
War Eagle, everybody! It's football Saturday in 2009, and you know what that means! Rain, of course! Luckily, the weather's supposed to be much more fall-like, in Fayetteville, today! The Tigers hope today, to avenge an ugly 25-22 loss to Arkansas, a year ago. Both teams have upgraded on offense, and many folks feel that the scoreboard at Reynolds Razorback Stadium will get a workout! Auburn comes in 5-0, and is looking to stay atop the SEC West race. Arkansas is 2-2, and is hoping to avoid falling to 0-3 in the league. I'd say Arkansas has both the home field advantage, AND the desperation edge!
We'll be here this morning, for the early kickoff, at 11:00 AM Central Daylight Time! I had thought that I'd not be at the computer for this game, but family illness has changed the plan. I'll be here the whole game! My comments may be more fractured and nonsensical than usual, this time. When the game kicks off, I'll have gone 25 consecutive hours without sleep. It might be bizarre...

Watching ESPN this morning, the Sportscenter guys think that Mallet will pick apart our D and Arkansas plays well at home. I don’t think that our D is that bad, but definitely their D is worse and our offense is more balanced. Go Tigers!!!

Arkansas beat a top twenty ranked Malzahn last year, we’ll beat him again today.
And yes, Auburn’s D is awful.

I believe that Arkansas is a formidable foe, but I still believe in our Tigers. They will bring it today!

I saw a little bit...
…..before the half. Strange strategy, by coach Dooley. Had “Saturday Night” Livas fair catching, after he’d already taken one to the house, and was running up the middle, down 10 points, with over a minute left. La Tech’s REALLY had trouble getting separation at wide receiver, and teams are camping out on their running game.
…..Corso just picked Arky over Auburn. Kiss of death, Mike!

Eltoro Freeman is hurt still. I don’t think you make that much noise and be that bad. We’re playing mostly nickle today right? We won’t have many linebackers in most of the game. They may take somebody from the safety position and have them play the hybrid position. We’ve got some good defensive minds on the staff. They’ll do well with what they have I think.

I think if our D can put some pressure on Mallet early and often, you won't see me complain.
As far as tailgating, it is hard watching all of the Southern scenes on the TV. It is a balmy 20 degrees and we got a freak October snow event yesterday morning. So, I am wearing my parka ready to go…well not really, but you get the point….

……Thunderstorms, and a LOW of only 74, Thursday night! It’s a SLIGHT bit cooler, this morning, at 66, here in the Tragic City. And gray, and drizzling.

….weather! Snow sounds SO great! We haven’t had a freeze, since March 2, on a rare Sunday morning snow.
I was in B'ham (Homewood actually) in July, it was tough.
Here we basically went from bluebird 70 degree days to barely getting out of the 40’s, and again a freak snow. It may be Montana, but October snow in the Valley is really rare and temps that dip in the teens at night are also rare. But I have to say enthusiastically, that I do not miss the muggy humid mess that is the glorious Tragic City.

It looked like it was blocked.
In all other SEC games, Arkansas has come fast out of the gate and then petered out. I would not be surprised if at some point we are down by two TD’s. I still think that we can come back.

…..Stan and Rod have NEARLY a 45 second delay, behind the game. I don’t know if WJOX is doing that, or the ISP folks. Either way, they are way too late to be of much help.
That's also how it is on the internet connection.
Radio is helpful in injury situations.
This is not the game to have an offensive melt down. Com on guys.

…..On defense, we’re at the mercy of bad throws. We can’t even get in the same zip code with Mallett, on the pass rush. Can’t cover, either. Luckily, they keep calling the draw right into unblocked Josh Bynes, and Mallett is making a few bad throws.
…..If Mallett gets his arm straight, we might give up 4 scores in the 2nd quarter.
…..This has been a REALLY grim quarter on both Auburn lines of scrimmage, so far. Terrible, uninspired play up front, on both sides.

There have been...
…..about a half dozen garbage calls against us. Even if we get those calls, and we’re still down double digits. Can’t blame this loss on the refs, only the margin of defeat.

I have totally supported him this year.
I have said repeatedly that we will go as far as he takes us. Today he has been total and unapologetically AWFUL. Thats the truth. I still support him but he has just killed us with bad throws and mistakes.

I can only see that Chris is confused, holding onto the ball too long and taking sacks, not reading the defense before the snap, not making his progressions, overthrowing, throwing behind, dropping snaps on an absolutely critical 4th down, fumbling on another sack he shouldn’t have taken and….he smells bad.
No really. He just is haveing a horrible game. I have heaped tons of praise on him thus far and he had been instrumental in our wins. HE IS THE KEY TO OUR SEASON!! Everyone is going to make him beat them and if he does we will, if he doesn’t then we will lose badly. Our defense isn’t good enought to cover for average or poor QB play.

The problem with that is it puts a lot of presure on Chris Todd and as we saw today, if he plays poorly we are going down….hard.

Appreciate what you said to Col. He was ticking me off more than the game. But I got beef about the only 7 wins. There is A LOT of season left. This was a horrible game, but those guys did not give up. I think that this game will build character. I can’t wait to see how they handle it.
