DEFENSE DESPERATELY NEEDS CHANGES!

ITS TIME FOR CHIZIK TO EARN HIS PAYCHECK AND TAKE OVER THIS MISERABLE DEFENSE!

Star-divide

As for the defense, or lack of one we need to immediately get rid of this Ted Roof. If we can ditch Tony Franklin in his first six games, why in the world does Ted Roof last through eight? I totally understand us not having any depth but that has nothing to do with teaching the kids we do have to TACKLE! I have seen more missed tackles in the first eight games this year than I have in the last eight years of Auburn Football. Not to mention our defense is as conservative as Tommy Tubberville, we havent blitzed but maybe two or three times all year. Lets face it I am still not sold on the Gene Chizik project but Im willing to give it a try at least he has very little but some credibility with being a D Coordinator for Auburn & Texas. Why not let him take over the defense? And what experience does Ted Roof have anyways? Oh yeah he was a coach for DUKE, not for Coach K the basketball Duke but for Duke Football. Yes they do have a football team. And to add further insult to injury if you have noticed last years D Coach Paul Rhodes is 5-3 with Iowa St. this year, YES thats the same Iowa St. that Chizik won just 2 games with in two seasons.

As far as the offense goes, Gus Malzahn is a good coordinator but lets face it Todd threw his arm out again and looks like last years Todd the last three games. Caudle is going to be our QB next year so lets get him out there already.

This...

Is the ignorance that will do us in screaming for a coach’s head. Those are Gene Chizik’s players Paul Rhodes is winning with right now. Who knows, he may come back to Auburn one day, but damn stop screaming for Roof’s head. He has NOTHING to work with right now.

Nothing to work with

That wasn’t even an issue when we were 5-0 and ranked 17th in the country. But after three straight losses, now all of the sudden we have nothing to work with. Maybe we are thin but the way our secondary was giving 15 yard cushions to LSU receivers Saturday night was awful. Jefferson could drop back and eat a $5 foot long and then complete most of his passes. And after the catch my grandmother would have tackled better. Thin yes, but coached poorly HELL YES!

There are a variety of psychological responses to stress. And there are a few personality types that have been identified. Here, we think of the airplane that crashes in a remote wilderness and chances of rescue look bleak. Or we think of those GIs captured on the Philippines in WWII and have to make the death march to Bataan.

Some will just lose hope and die while others will get busy with doing the best they can to make through the days ahead.

It’s time to realize that we have a very thin roster of inexperienced players, of which some are undersized by SEC standards. They are playing as well as they can, but the constant pounding without substitution is taking its toll. Other teams have big guys and are two or three deep at some positions. Those other teams have senior squads who have played together for years. Kentucky’s offensive line was like that.

My gripe is about the penalties, turnovers, and missed tasckles, things which can be addressed and corrected via coaching.

As the season wore on, our opponents learned how to counter Malzahn’s misdirection, making his current slate of plays less effective. Add to that the small but nagging list of injuries which depletes the limited firepower we had at our disposal at the beginning of the season.

These are the same coaches that coaxed a miracle from these very same players. How are they now so awful they should be fired, any of them?

If we keep going to a different quarterback we will destroy continuity. Todd is suffering a bit because the pocket collapses now, unlike the first five games. He was really cool in the beginning about waiting until just the right second to take a step or two forward to elude pursuers. But he has been crunched a few times and now, for what ever reason, is not taking that step out of harm’s way. He did run the ball okay a couple of times against LSU.

Many have criticized him for keying in on a few targets at the exclusion of open guys. Might be a valid point. Or maybe he doesn’t have confidence in those open guys to catch a pass even if he gets it to the guy.

In any event, we have some more games to go. Whereas Ole Miss looked beatable a few weeks ago, they look stronger now. But we all saw what Tennessee did to Bama and what Miss St did to Florida the first half. I am not willing to throw in the towel on this season and say let’s put all the cherries in for some game experience and concede the coming games as losses.

I was really happy when Chizik went after that last touchdown at the end of the LSU game. He’s a fighter. Me too.

I completely agree!

This is just embarrasing! Auburn had prided itself on having a great defense whether the offense was good or not. The defense used to keep us in every game we play. Yes, we’re thin, but big freakin’ deal! That doesn’t explain how teams continue to come out game after game and march right down the field on us on their first and second drives of the game WITH EASE! When you give up 31 points and nearly 400 yards to the 112-ranked offense in the country, it’s more than just a lack of depth. A whole lot more.

*we played

That 112th ranked offense

had a week off before playing us, has more speed than us and is more experienced and has a lot more playmakers than we have. Minus a couple bogus penalties on the opening drive and a 69 yard run to the #1 recruit that came out last year, our defense played pretty well against a much faster team than we will see this year.

What we really need right now, we can never have, a week off. This would be a great time for a week off for our Tigers to get their crap back together and rally around each other and get rid of some nicks.

We're thin, big freakin' deal

Just plain stupid.

That doesn’t explain why teams are able to march down the field on us during the opening drives? How do you not put two and two together?

We are starting freshmen and sophomores who haven’t seen these kind of minutes before in their careers.

It’s not just depth, it’s a lack of talent. Can you tell me these D-linemen are up to par? These kids would be second stringers on a good Auburn team.

We have three linebackers. That’s it. For the entire season. Yeah, that’s a depth issue.

I’m sorry but you sound like an idiot.

Im glad some people see things right!

Im glad your not one of the Jay Jacobs, Ted Roof is a great D-Coach kool-aid drinkers like some of these bloggers are. We’re thin, we have nothing to work with, at least we scored a TD at the end of the game to make it 31-10. Give me a break if your happy with what we’re putting on the field right now just wait until next year when all of our recruits jump ship. Our recruits are watching these games also.

by WAR EAGLE DAVID on Oct 27, 2009 9:00 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not happy

with the way our defense has played. But that doesn’t change the fact that’s they are playing the best they can be expected to. Depth is non-existent, the offense puts them in horrible field position.

This is a transition year and you guys expect this defense to be a world beater. Get a grip, you guys need to be more realistic. This was not going to be a 8 win season. You have to come to terms with that, instead of acting like petulant children.

And if the recruits jump ship, then they really weren’t coming to Auburn for the right reasons and I’ll be glad to see them go. But if this staff recruits well, then the record won’t matter, just ask Nick Saban.

Let me get this straight

you’re argument for getting rid of Ted Roof in the middle of the season, is we did it with Tony Franklin?

That’s a sound argument. Tell me, how did that season work out again?

Man, you Fire Ted Roof-ers need to shut the hell up.

by flemico on Oct 27, 2009 12:15 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

GET THIS STRAIGHT

The reason Ted Roof should go is he has had eight weeks and all of the spring and he cant even teach them how to TACKLE. They dont even know how to take angles on making tackles. So for all of you sticking up for this guy for some reason should be the ones to shut the hell up. Our pee wee football teams around here at least know how to tackle.

by WAR EAGLE DAVID on Oct 27, 2009 8:48 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They couldnt tackle before he got there

Wow

you need to quit drinking. This is not the end of the world. Get a life. There is no reason to get this upset over something so minuscule. There is more to life than football. Calm down.

But look, if you know better than Gene Chizik and Ted Roof, professionals, then why don’t you send them your resume. By the way, what ARE your credentials? I’m not pretending I know better than people who coach for a living, I’ll trust their judgment, especially under these circumstances.

You go ahead living in your fantasy world though. We can’t tackle because we have been practicing without pads all year. Why? Because we have NO DEPTH.

So I’ll say it again, all you people freaking out, wanting to fire someone, need to shut the hell up. You’re embarrassing Auburn fans who realized this wasn’t going to be a great year, who aren’t getting blinded with rage over a football game, who don’t want to be associated with people who bitch constantly (if we did we’d be Bama fans.)

Seriously??

If Ted Roof had his players in place with adequate depth, etc., your argument might be valid. If you knew the defensive schemes that Roof typically runs—it is blitz happy and stingy. He does not have the personnel to run these schemes. Recruiting will fix that. Additionally, there were actually improvements last week, as hard at it might be to believe, our offense lost the game…bless your little heart, you have no idea what you are talking about.

We SHOULD have the following starters:

……SenDerrick Marks, Pat Sims, Antonio Coleman, Raven Gray, Patrick Trahan, Tray Blackmon, Jerraud Powers. We don’t. Too many busts, and we are where we are. Tony Dungy would have a tough time with what we’ve got right now.

FIRE ROOF!

Roof is over matched by the SEC and I agree Coach Chizik should take over the defense> Our offense needs a QB with a good arm and Todd is definately not the QB he was before he took the hit in the Tenn game,,,,Quit drinking the Kool-Aid and man up and don’t waste 2 years being politically correct

well...

I gotta say 5 games in, I knew we had a disastrous defense. They’re aren’t good. Point blank. I don’t blame roof or Chizik for that. There is work to be done and patience is key here. Give it time. The last thing we need is to show a divided front. Recruiters will have no problem stealing recruits if we do that now. I’m vested in this deal and am hopeful for the future. Just keep in mind Chizik had at the very least equaled Sabans first year record. Says enough right there…..

by ArieGold on Oct 27, 2009 1:44 PM CDT via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Exactly

if the recruits are going to jump ship, it’s probably not because we lose games. It’s because part of the fan base act like jackasses when we lose. Part of the appeal of Auburn is the unity. Screaming for firing people kind of ruins the unity thing. Not to mention, who wants to play for a rabid, unrealistic fan base?

Patience. Some of you need to tattoo that word to your foreheads, not that I expect all of you to know how to spell it.

by flemico on Oct 27, 2009 3:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Patience

I agree with flemico and all of you Auburn “bashers” need to cool it. You are starting to remind me of the fans to the west of the state. We weren’t even expected to win 5+ games this year, so considering the talent and number of skill players we are playing with, I am happy with Auburn’s current position.

I will say I think we should have beat KY, but the other losses were expected, especially after how our season ended last year. The coaching staff is working hard and definitely doing a better job than Tub’s final crew did. Requesting that the school fire our coordinators will definitely run the recruits off in a “New York Second”. And if you want to see what happens to a head coach when he takes over the play calling on the “O” or “D”, look at Todd Haley of the KC Chiefs or Jim Zorn of the Redskins…total faliures.

I was in attendance at the LSU game and I did not have much at all to cheer about, but we did have some bright spots. Eltorro Freeman was an added boost to the LB corp with 12 solo tackles. Neill Caudle might be the answer to come in and replace Todd and see how he performs. He was facing the 2nd string scrubs last week against LSU, but I think it might be worth it to give him a shot. He can do no worse than Todd at this point.

Let me lay it out for the rest of the season, we will beat Furman, but lose the rest of the games. It is possible we might slip up and beat GA, but the others SEC teams are playing great ball. Let’s support our guys, give the coaches a chance, and look forward to next year.

War Damn Eagle!!!

One bright spot

I agree has been looked over by too many from the LSU beatdown- Eltoro Freeman. How great was he? Compared to all his other performances, it was night and day.

by flemico on Oct 29, 2009 7:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Where is the basics?

I understand growing pains, we are bringing in a whole new coaching staff, and ANYTIME you do that your gonna loose some games, take your hits and move on. But I have to wonder about our future when I see soo many simple mistakes that honestly comes from a lack of the basics. I have seen a pretty fast defense that is quick to get to the guy with the ball, but misses sooo many tackles because they dont Wrap up.

Also something that is bothering me is the excessive penalties we are racking up in a hurry. In the SEC often times the winner of a game is the one who wins the turnover rate and whom ever is the least penalized.

One thing I am excited about is the way Kody Burns has handled not being our starting QB, the guy has heart!!! Another is the prospect of the Caudell, from the couple plays I have seen, he looks like he has a lot of promise.
