Zac Etheridge Out for the Season

Various media outlets have broken the news that Auburn safety Zac Etheridge suffered a neck injury in the game against Ole Miss, and will miss the remainder of the season. Gene Chizik said that the doctors expect a full recovery.

The most amazing display of compassion on the play was by an Ole Miss player, Rodney Scott, who was tackled on the play and pinned under Zac Etheridge. Somehow, Scott knew that there was a neck injury involved, and stayed motionless for the entire time. His actions may well have prevented a worse injury to Etheridge. Kudos to Scott for his actions. We'll be cheering him and his Rebel teammates on, from here on out!

Mike Slade filled in admirably for Etheridge, Saturday, and will likely hold onto the job for the remainder of the season. Former starter Mike McNeil is not a likely option, said Chizik.

In a Birmingham Hospital...

This injury must be worse than was first thought. Let’s pray that he makes a full recovery. Football is irrelevant at this point.

of course I couldnt say anything if I knew anything...HIPPA and all...

my GUESS would be that he has an incomplete C4 that will result in his being out for the season and possibly out of football altogether…his family is one of the nicest families ever…they really need our prayers.

They aren't coming out with any news

Someone posted on another forum that he updated his Facebook as saying that he would be in the hospital a few days to have some tests run and he had a picture of him in a neck brace.

Maybe he will be alright, all we can do is hope for the best, whether he can come back next year or not. War Eagle Zac, get well soon.

I would be an Alabama fan too but I didn't go to Troy. Instead, I am an Auburn man because I went to Auburn.

Chizik commenting on Ole Miss player Rodney Scott...
"It was one of the most amazing things I’ve seen," Auburn coach Gene Chizik said. "… I have to give that young man a lot of credit. I don’t know how he knew, but he knew he couldn’t move. He sat as still as the night, lying right underneath him. It was one of the most phenomenal things I’ve witnessed in doing this."

It’s without question the best sportsmanship I’ve ever seen in my life.

Great Post

Great Post. With all the non news worthy crap that goes on, this truly reflects the best that college athletics has to offer.

Get well Zac. WAR EAGLE!

That truly is an amazing display of sportsmanship on Scott’s behalf, which is something that’s seldom seen in this day and age.

But more importantly, Zach will be in my good thoughts and prayers and we hope to see him on the field again soon. Thankfully his injury wasn’t as serious as believed and he truly is blessed.

PS: ROLL TIDE!!

As a fan of the Tide...

I wish Etheridge a full recovery. Sadly, a speedy recovery is not in the cards, but full is looking very likely. Granted, I trolled the crap out of the Rocky Top blog here at SBNation (and enjoyed it immensely, hence the sig), but even I have my limits. He seems like a great guy to have on the field, and I’m sorry he won’t be lining up against my Tide in the Iron Bowl.

Got banned by Rocky Top Talk in only one real day of posting. Damn, that was a good day!
