Quick Hitters
Most of the time, at this point in the season Auburn and Georgia fans seem to get a bit snippy. But this season it is not happening like it normally does. Is it because both sides of the conference are already decided and neither the Tiger nor the Bulldogs are in it? Is it because no one really knows which team is going to show up on Saturday?
Trying to break down this game into simple terms is a follows. I am guessing that Acid will break it down further like he normally does.
Chris Todd vs. Joe Cox – This is really not a contest. Todd has had his bad games, there is no denying that. But Joe Cox has been just down right terrible most of the season. He has thrown at least one interception in every game is year. He has arguably the best WR in the SEC in AJ Green and still has trouble completing passes. I also look for Logan Gray to play some QB against the Tigers. Hopefully Roof will have everyone prepared for that.
AJ Green vs. Darvin Adams – While Darvin has had a great year and has stepped up huge for
Ben Tate vs. Washaun Ealey – Much like the WR battle this one is no contest. Ben Tate has put up great numbers for an Auburn RB, and that is saying something. He has toped the 1000 yard mark already and looks like he could break the big one on almost every carry. Ben Tate is also a Senior and has been in the big games before. Ealey is a Freshman, while playing great, Freshman are known for making key errors under pressure.
Josh Bynes, Craig Stevens, and Eltoro Freeman vs. Rennie Curran – In my opinion Rennie is one of the best LB to ever play at Georgia. He is in almost every play and his motor never stops. He leads the Bulldogs in tackles and quite possibly is the all time leader. He is on almost every defensive award watch list. He is the bright spot on an abysmal defensive unit. While Bynes and Stevens are leading
So far there has been no contest across the board. Now to where it matters most, in the trenches
Georgia Offensive line vs. Tigers Defensive front – I have to give the edge to Auburn. While the D Line has struggled at times this season, the Tigers have really stepped it up in the last two weeks. Antonio Coleman and Antoine Carter have come alive. Georgia has started four different offensive fronts this season. Injury has plagued them again, so look for Auburn to get plenty of pressure. Also the Georgia ends have the same issue that Auburn has on occasion… the over pursuit of the running play, and opening up the screen pass or bootleg.
Auburn’s Offensive line vs. the Bulldogs Defensive line – The key to the offense in this game is going to be the offensive front of the Tigers. Auburn has been pretty good all season with giving Todd time to throw. The issue is that Todd has been known to hold the ball too long. They are also going to have to open the holes for the Auburn running game to get going. The Dogs are going to load the box to stop the run. If Lee Ziemba and the crew can keep for getting the killer penalty all will be well. The Georgia D Line has been improving every week. Early in the year holes were opening up, but over the last couple of weeks they have held strong. The Dogs start three seniors and all three have plenty of experience
Although a 7-5 season was to be considered a success for the 2009 Tigers, it is not any longer. 7-5 now is a disappointment. This is a much win game for Auburn and I think that this game is theirs to lose. Georgia is reeling, and is just plain lost on offense. The Tigers should build a bit more momentum heading into the Iron Bowl in two weeks. 8 wins puts Auburn into a decent bowl and who knows 9 wins could make it even better with a New Years Day one.

I just worry
that georgia is more desperate for an SEC win than we are. They are 5-4 (3-3 SEC). Granted, we have the same SEC record, but they are still fighting for bowl eligibility. Hopefully our guys are anxious to put that 3-game losing streak behind them. WDE…
"We're at AUBURN. I think that says it all. We're going after the best in the country -- no matter when, what, where, how. That's how we're going to do it. We're going to work really hard to try to get that done every year -- including this one." -- Auburn University Head Football Coach Gene Chizik
Most importantly....
Will Auburn’s O’ line keep their emotions in check and not misfire again. They have a chance to be an outstanding unit, they just keep getting senseless penalties.
I know you covered that in your article, it just seems to me to be that important against SEC opponents.
Auburn can win this game. They must play mistake free offensively. Create a few turnovers, and find someone to catch a dad gummed punt.
Keep the faith. Auburn can win this game and build momentum heading into the future.

I read this and laugh
Create a few turnovers,
Look at the stats. Georgia is 2nd worst in the nation in TO margin. They’ve been negative or even in every game. Creating turnovers is going to be the least of Auburn’s problems.

Just some thoughts from a Georgia fan
But Joe Cox has been just down right terrible most of the season.
True, but he was voted national player of the week after the Arkansas game in which he threw for 385 yards and 5 TDs. He has the ability to shred a porous defense which Auburn has shown a tendency to be this year.
He has thrown at least one interception in every game is year.
False. He did not throw an INT in the game against Tennessee Tech last week. We al know that the Tennessee Tech defense is not one to be taken lightly…
Green is in my opinion the best WR in the conference.
You’re just asking for Alabama trolls to bombard your site when you post facts like this.
I also look for Logan Gray to play some QB against the Tigers.
God help Georgia if you’re right.
Just thought I’d have some fun here. This weekend should be fun, but I still hope you lose by 40 points. I fear that that the Willie Martinez led-defense will make another SEC QB appear to be a Heisman contender, however.

AJ vs Juilo
This in my mind is no contest as well. AJ is a stud. Julio is one of the most overrated players in the country. He does make a great catch every game, but he drops at least an easy one a game.

Never underestimate Georgia. They are a strong bunch of guys who can play hard.
Auburn has to stop giving up momentum with false start penalties. Granted, the Dawgs are giving up more yards to penalties than we are, but we can’t count on them making mistakes. We can only capticalize on them.
As far as punt/kick off returns. I doubt it’s possible to teach depth perception. I would seriously have their eyes checked, and I’m not fooling about that. You’d be surprised how many young people don’t wear glasses out of vanity.
This will be a rough game. I just hope nobody gets a season-ending injury.
Since Georgia has won the last three, and have never won four in a row, the odds suggest we should win this one. But then we lost to Kentucky this year, so…
Our guys have to stay focused and not make any penalties. If Todd is on his game, we win 27 to 24
I want this game
I am sick of losing to Georgia. Especially this Georgia team that is their worst in several years. I still consider 7-5 basically a successful season as long as we show up in these last 2 games and play hard. I really think if we keep our penalties to a minimum, we should win this one. I might not have said that after the LSU game, but we have bounced back, I think. If the AU team that bounced back shows up, that is the real key.
I like how our defense has been getting more effective. I feel that it is inevitable with Chizik as HC. He will not be comfortable with fielding a second rate defense in years to come. We really had nowhere to go but up with some of those early performances, though.
Which ever team has the most effective ground game...
will win the game. Neither team can afford to be one dimensional but neither team can pass without the run game being effective. Both teams like to move the pocket and use the play action pass and you can’t do either if the opposing defense doesn’t respect the run. I have to give the definite edge to AU in this regard…..too many weapons to run the ball starting with Ben Tate and going down through McCaleb, Fannin, Smith, Burns and the wideouts on the reverse sweeps….this added with tempo will make for a very tired Dawg defense.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Also UGA's musical chairs on the OL......
have been a problem and will continue to be a problem. Just my two cents worth if you don’t like it tough titty.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Records
While georgia is 5-4 and Auburn is 7-3, both teams have the same SEC record (3-3). You have to remember that with the exception of tennessee tech, georgia’s tough out-of-conference schedule might be partially to blame for a poor record. Although I don’t think Oklahoma State is any better than West Virginia.

Better than...
Louisiana Tech/Ball State/Furman if we’re going to go that route.

THIS GAME IS HUGE. doesn't seem like much...but it is absolutely HUGE for Auburn... perception.
the recruits are making REAL moves NOW. now is the time to bag a hard road W no matter what it takes.
really think that UGA has improved much since Crompton and Tennessee lit them up passing and running? over and over again it is a D’s strategy to make a well balanced offense 1 dimensional, and i agree,…that this will be UGA’s primary effort sat. night for sure.
there is a 3rd dimension to this offense that i’ve been seeing more and more lately though… passing to the backs fannin and smith. this is a play that can work well especially with a team that is overpursuing the run. look for this to hurt the dawgs big.
ever since mccaleb got hurt, you sensed it took a bit for the AU play calling to readjust itself to the new “cast”…it seemed that there was some experiementing in the furman game that was real time and VERy valuable going into this game. i think that until this AU offense settles in, it will be key to get Todd a few easy passes under him… be sure to emphasize getting rid of the ball quickly… until the game settles…
By the way, i think Darvin Adams is closer in skill to AJ Green than folks talk. I hope he really uses this offseason to bulk up 10-15 lbs of muscle and he will be a monster next year.
with pace of the new Auburn offense, both these teams will enjoy many more possessions than previous meetings, Auburn has too many offensive weapons finding some stride late in the season in Tate, Fannin, Adams, Smith, & Zachary?(did he even play against Furman?)…
there will be turnovers…
with the hype of the game in the nasty hedges, AU will be held slightly below their average…AU 33 _ UGA 24

Richt going to pull the penalized
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia football coach Mark Richt said Tuesday that he will pull players who commit penalties Saturday against No. 25 Auburn.
The Bulldogs are tied for last nationally with Texas Tech among the 120 Bowl Subdivision teams with 9.44 penalties per game, and Richt sat players for the remainder of the series in last week’s 38-0 win over Tennessee Tech. Richt has not revealed how long players who commit infractions will sit this week.
“I know Coach Richt is trying to clean things up and make sure we play with a little more discipline,” left tackle Clint Boling said.
Most of last week’s 11 penalties were false-start infractions on the offensive line, which made for an eventful second half once some starters exited the game.
“It was probably more comical than anything else watching people coming in and out of the huddle,” quarterback Joe Cox said. "You saw A.J. Harmon come in one play, and he was supposed to go to left tackle. But because of the play, (center) Ben Jones was like, ‘No. No. You’re not going to tackle.’
“He pulled him inside and made him play left guard so he could tell him what to do. It was pretty funny, but I hope we don’t have to do that the rest of the year.”
