It is officially Iron Bowl week, can we get a civilized discussion?
Unlike last year's Auburn team, I expect your guys to come out fired up. They see a chance to ruin our perfect regular season and they have not quit on the season. I believe they will be over matched on both LOS and AU lacks much depth. If AU pulls off the upset, it will be a monumental upset and will go down in AU lore with Punt BAMA, Punt. I was at last year's IB and I enjoyed the game, final result and singing Rammer Jammer at the top of my lungs. It was the exorcising of 6 years of frustration. I do hope AU can build up their depth in the coming years. Don't get me wrong, I still want BAMA to beat AU every single season but beating a very good team is much more satisfying.

Civilized...
…..is what I try to do. I think Auburn’s got a better chance than last year, but only by a little bit. This week’s melt-down by Georgia doesn’t help. Maybe Bama’s overconfident after a dominant whitewashing of UTC. Maybe.
…..Bama’s defense is one to watch. And copy! I’m not quite as sold on the offensive strategy. We had a few years of “bash ’em with superior athletes” under Dye, and it worked great, Till you played folks on the same level. “Pat Dye (cough-cough) can’t win the big game,” Finebaum and the papers blared. Whether Auburn’s 4.4 yards per carry run defense can take advantage is anyone’s guess. I’d like to think that a week’s rest will help. I’ve also seen weeks off destroy chemistry. We’ll see, come Black Friday!
…..I REFUSE! …to speculate on the title game, or the BCS, till the Iron Bowl is over. We Alabamians should celebrate the great rivalry and holiday we have. An Iron Bowl victory is WAY more important! We’ll debate poll madness, when this EVENT is over.
There are trolls...
…on both sides. There are also true fans who love and respect this game. Even though I respect AU, I still want to beat their brains out every season. I do not want AU to lose to everybody else like some fans desire though.
As far as our offense goes, I think we have ironed out some of those woes. Do we have a juggernaut offense, well no, but I think it is good enough to complement our defense and lead us to the top of the final polls.
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
its interesting
to see someone actually want to discuss the game and not just talk shit on each other, which is fun too, but its still refreshing.

We can start another post...
…the Get ye some hate post…but there are already plenty of those to be found on the net.

Auburn does have a better chance to pull the upset this year.
But not by much. We’ll score points this year I’m sure, but I’m NOT sure it will be a lot. We’re just simply over matched. The two programs are at very different places right now. I’m not gonna get my hopes about this game. Bama is a very solid, disciplined team this year with talent to boot all over the field. AU is in a big time transition, a ‘Motley Crue’ if you will. Its going to be interesting to see how it turns out. I want our guys to experience beating Alabama. Guys like Tate who have given blood, sweat, and tears for this program. But there are stories like that on both sides of the debate.
Its a tall task for sure, but I know Chizik will have the guys fired up and ready to play. We’re gonna have to pull out all of our tricks to have a chance and have Bama play a down game.
War Eagle and keep the faith!

If AU gives him a few years
Chizik will have AU back in contention again. As long as Saban stays in Tuscaloosa, we will be in contention every year but AU can still be a contender. Les Miles is doing a lot less with more talent at LSU, Chizik seems to be getting more out of less. You guys need to build up some depth, especially at both LOS and then this will truly be a fight for the West crown again.

well put
your right we dont have much chance but stranger things have happened. War Eagle
How would a similar post be recieved from the other side? (with more hostility?)
AUBURN is back!
I am sure you would get some flamage
but if it is couched in a civil manner, the real fans would want to discuss rather than flame. I ahve been on a couple of other sites for a long time. One of which is an SEC site, where we have been posting together for about 12 years. There we rooted out the flamers and those that only wanted to swear constantly. I just found the SBN blogs last year and just joined recently. I enjoy talking with my upcoming opponents. I am also one of those rare BAMA fans that roots for AU except when we play or it has a direct effect on our fate. If I had my utopia of college football, BAMA would go undefeated every year and AU would have one loss, the Iron Bowl. I take much more satisfaction from beating a good AU team than a lame duck AU team. Last year was an exception because it ended a streak of futility for us. I had really got tired of wearing an Auburn hat the week following the Iron Bowl(I don’t bet money, but I will bet embarrassing things, never will I take a BAMA-UT hat bet though, never shall that orange touch my skin, heh). This year I have a bet with a co-worker, loser has to sing winner’s fight song at company x-mas party.

There are...
…..wise folks at RBR, as much as it pains me to say it! They are people who know their football. Unfortunately, some the al.com morons are finding SB Nation blogs, and venting their garbage all around. I’m kind of loath to waste time on a post that’s not going to entertain over there. I have only limited internet time, and I stick to reading on sites like Charles Goldberg’s blog and RBR.
I quit even reading...
…the comments on AL.com. They are posted by the likes of one of my co-workers. If you read another of my posts here, you will see where I had a running hat bet. Last year was the first year he had to wear a BAMA hat. He has taken to the hat so well that he jumped ship and claims to be a BAMA fan now. I do not accept him as a BAMA fan. That kind of switching can be understood from a kid, not from an adult. This year I have a different bet with a different AU co-worker to sing the fight song of the winner by the loser.
As far as the sites I frequent, I go to Tidesports boards for news, the private SEC site(we are old veterans of CNNSI boards from about 12 years ago) for talk and recently the SBN sites. Also EDSBS for humor.

just my .02
The writing of Charles Goldberg cannot be described as anything but biased. The tone he takes in his newspaper articles is non-journalistic (did I just coin a word?), but his blog is pure homerism.

Yeah....
and Cecil hurt and Gentry Estes are examples of unbiased journalism……NOT!
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Uhh....
I agree that Cecil Hurt writes with a certain degree of bias.
However, I was specifically responding to the mention of Charles Goldberg and, MORE specifically, his blog. I enjoy quality writing about SEC football—most of which I find on SBNation—but it is my opinion that Goldberg’s writing is extremely biased.
P.S. That’s why it’s only worth .02!

Kinda like bitching about the T.V. channel with the remote in your hand isn't it?
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
trying to say we aren't civilized?
Just kidding, you do need a disclaimer to have a discussion about this or it turns into a mess. I just want to watch a game that is worth watching. I know I’m going to watch it anyway, but I’d like to enjoy myself. And I think it will be more fun than last year although I have blocked out that memory and cannot remember if I did watch that game. Auburn is more likely to have success moving the ball this time. Auburn was basically a broken team last year and we appear to have corrected that. Looking forward to seeing our guys leave everything out on that field!
I too hope for a good game
with no injuries for either side. I will be honest though and say that it would be nice, in a way, to be able to rest our starters some in the second half. We have another battle coming up the next week. I do like that we get an extra day to recover from you guys before we go to Atlanta.

Then keep Pugh away from people's knees.

And, yes, I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment...
games should be punishing and physical, but not injurious.

but there it is folks Stuck in the Plains managed to screw up a good thing.

we got alot closer than i thought it would
nice try, still made it farther with out hatred and swearing than anything posted anywhere last year

i wasn't aware snark = douchebag...
I was more hoping that the game is injury free on both sides.

Your overblown and ridiculous statement about Ryan Pugh.....
certainly qualifies as a douchebag statement.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
He's a serial offender.
NB: I didn’t call out the entire offensive line, nor coaches, etc…One guy who has certainly earned his reputation.

The play in question that you use as impetus to start.....
this Bullshit is the Glen Dorsey chop…which the blocking assignment was to cut (legal) as soon as the ball was snapped….the missed assignment came from Ziemba who stood up and engaged Dorsey while the rest of the line cut….thus causing the Chop block (a cut block by one player while the defender is engaged with another player)….now that might be too complicated for a real estate attorney but do your best and study on it for a while and maybe you can come to the correct conclusion all by yourself.

Google thinks otherwise

And that makes it fact?
Pretty lame…..didn’t think you could look at the play and understand it much less be objective about it. Kinda fits the “douchebag” M.O. that you can’t escape anymore than you can get out of Omaha.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
If you're stuck in the Plains...
by all means, I will help you get out of there. Far be it of me not to grant a Bama fan’s wish. I’ll even help you pack and give you a good route to get you out of Auburn the quickest you can get out of there. How much is that price tag?? Wow, that’s the best part of this deal-I’ll help you leave Auburn for free!!!!
Far be it from me to point out
that the “loveliest village” is not, by any stretch, the only Plains in this great big country. Heard of the Great Plains? The Northern Plains? The Desert Plains?
Thus, when one’s frame of reference is so piteously regional, assumptions are made, and we know the old saw when one assumes.

So tell us....
which Plains is it? I also thought you were attending Grad School at AU.

Never mind....
I read your profile. Also, you shouldn’t get on Sparkey too much…..after all it is an understandable assumption that the plains which you refer to were the coastal plains and in particular Auburn. I will offer my condolences to you for being stuck in Omaha or any part of Nebraska for that matter.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
This game should...
be much, much more competitive than last year’s itteration. Alabama is a better team than we were last year, more complete, and out offensive woes seem to have been mostly fixed since the Tennessee. Auburn is also a much better team than last year- there are some big question marks on defense, but overall what I am loving about this Auburn team is that your guys are playing with a kind of passion and intensity that I haven’t seen out of them in several years. Coach Chizik has his guys ready to play and fired up, and the chance of ruining an archrival’s national title hopes will only add fuel to the fire.
I still see Bama winning this game, simply because I don’t believe Auburn has the talent or the depth to get the job done…that being said, I expect a hard fought, hard hitting, absolute freaking war on the field….and that’s exactly the way it should be!
I’m looking forward to one hell of an Iron Bowl this year, and I hope neither team lets me down. Roll Tide!!
"You have to create six seconds of hell, every time the ball is snapped..."

This is THE GAME of the year
for both sides, no matter the W-L record. I believe that last year was an exception and this year will not be such a blowout. I do believe that Alabama will win because of our talent level and depth. But, Auburn is playing with much more fire and pride this year. It may take Coach Chizik a couple more years to get the depth and atheletes to compete at what has been your normal level in the past, but I can see it coming. I think all of us want this game to be THE GAME, not only for us, but for the whole nation. For that to happen, we both need to have great teams and undefeated seasons. We have done it in the past. Let’s all hope for a hard fought, injury free game!
Congrats...
…on your team leaving everything on the field. I will need some time to recover from my heart palpitations. Good luck in whatever bowl game you guys get. Cya next year in Bryant-Denny.

Not the ending I had hoped for.....
to say the least but it was a helluva game. Proud of our players and coaches. I also appreciate your civility…..well done.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Thanks Bamamachine,,,,,,,
,,,for the attempt at making this a non-bashing post. It was a great attempt, but bama fans that do the bashing simply could not stay away.
Stuckontheplains loves to come here and bring up things that he knows nothing about, but forgets that his team was called for the same penalty this year.
I am very proud to be an AUBURN TIGER today. Both teams played hard. Auburn did not give up and had a achance to win.
WAR EAGLE!
