Signature Win

For the second year in a row, we finish without a victory against any of our top trio of  rivals--Alabama, Georgia and LSU. That again begs the question, which of the seven victories is our signature win this year? We beat an upstart State team, which wouldn't quit all year. We snuck by a solid OOC opponent in West Virginia. We edged a rebuilding Tennessee team, which showed both flashes of brilliance this season and despair. And we took a resurgent Ole Miss squad who looked like they were turning it around in mid-season. Which has your vote?

You know me on this one WEA

I don’t believe in signature wins so I’m not going to vote. I don’t believe in moral victories either. You keep working and keep working and losing no matter how close or to who it is is good enough for me and my program. I demand the best and that’s the way I think. I want to win and if we win enough, then we do not concentrate on one game. Rather, it becomes a combination of one big winning season after another. What is the signature win for Gene-all 7 of them.

I don't

think there’s anything bad or non-inclusive about signature victories. It’s not a zero-sum proposition. I don’t think we really had one last year, and our choices aren’t that much better this year. I think Ole Miss will get the nod over WVU, only because it’s a conference victory, but when was the last time we said that about a win against the Rebels?

Banned in Boston. Banned in Bama.

Well I mean

in the sense that we’re better than signature wins. You might have a signature season-but one game is never a signature, it’s only one game. But, you know me WEA. I’m always going against the grain. Hell, why else would Todd92 give me such a hard time every post in response to me. Heh heh, just joking.

I would have to say Tennessee.....

for several reasons….it wasn’t necessarily that much more impressive of a win than Ole Miss or WVU but since it was on the road and against another rookie coach in the SEC I think it was the signature win of the program and of Chizik in his first season……serving as a reminder that as far as this season goes Chizik certainly came off looking better than both Mullen and Kiffen.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Tennessee because...

… they have some of the best resources to fight with ( facilities, money, long time SEC power, and a highly touted DC) Also they had the glamor hire for new SEC coaches.

I wouldn't call any of those a "signature" win

Our best win (record-wise) is over 8-4 Ole Miss, but they played two 1-AA teams, so that’s more like 6-4 Ole Miss.

And, in a related story, this week marked the 5,000th performance of the Broadway musical "Cats." It also marked the 5,000th time a guy turned to his wife and said, "What the hell is this?"

Ole Miss

Jevan Snead and McCluster have given plenty of top programs fits. We managed to stop those guys where others have not. The preseason hype lost its luster, though. And their inexplicable meltdowns mirrored our own inconsistency. For them to lose to Miss St typifies the quality control problems they faced all year.

Same with West Virginia. Their quarterback and running back were tricky, slippery, and elusively quick. The Ears were ranked as well. But I don’t think they were ever quite the same after we nicked up their quarterback.

Tennessee played Alabama right to the end. If not for a kicker with a gamey leg, they’d have upset the apple cart. We caught them just as Crompton was finding his mojo. But their defense has been consistently stout.

There was no

True signature win this year. But if I had to pick the best win I would go with WVU. They did pretty good this year and it was also a revenge game for last year. Ole Miss and Tenn. Would tie in a close second. I wouldn’t pick Ole Miss because of there inconsistancy.
