Weis Out at Notre Dame.

Weis_medium

The New York Daily News has broken the story that Charlie Weiss is out after five seasons in South Bend, where he dropped his last four games in a row and finished his career at 35-27. That would give him an even worse record than previous coaches Ty Willingham and Bob Davie. Weiss now claims to have no fewer than six offers for an OC position in the NFL.

Irish AD Jack Swarbrick informed the coaching staff of the decision earlier today. Further pending is the school deciding whether or not they wish to go to a bowl game with a 6-6 record. Player input will be part of that decision, but so will the appointment of an interim coach as well.

Much speculation was made after the Irish's loss to Stanford this weekend, where Weis refused to do halftime and post game interviews with the media. He allegedly also cleaned out his office on Thursday before the team even made the trip to California. Also curious is whether or not QB Jimmy Clausen is done as well, as speculation might have him declaring for the NFL draft after this, his junior year.

Now comes the circus that comes with filling the job that was formerly the biggest in college football. The rumor mill is still burning with one big name--Urban Meyer. Others being circulated thus far are Brian Kelly of Cincinatti, Gary Patterson of TCU and even Butch Davis of North Carolina. What? No Tubs?

In the crazy rumors section, I hear that the Domers *may* make a run at Saban, although I discount that tremendously. Smart money still says that they back a Brinks truck up to Meyer's door, but wouldn't it be funny  for the SEC title game this weekend that the winning coach goes to Pasadena and the loser goes to Notre Dame?

Well..

Who saw this coming? Now, we will hear 30 different coaches names associated with the opening. Honestly, in my opinion in the off season Alabama will get in trouble for the Ingram and Julio Jones incident and since they have already been in trouble and under a close watch Saban will jump ship so he doesn’t have to go through that. You may say they were cleared to play, that doesn’t mean the NCAA isn’t still investigating the university. But who knows.

uhhhh,... who cares?

sorry, not me. i am so tired of hearing about notre dame and Weis…especially when there are so many other teams worthy of time. i swear ESPN’s college football Live and other outlets have had permanent slots for N.D. talk all season long, (then they plug in a Bowden or Paterno update gimmick to fill in the holes) i know this drama for the college football media is intoxicating, but really,… is this even a story? who really cares except the teams that are hot and who now may have to worry if their head coach will be around next season.

I'm just a redneck

who went to school at Auburn, so what do I know, but isn’t it a little cocky / arrogant / ?? to vote on whether you want to go to a bowl game? Who gives a crap if they’re Notre Dame; they played the games, they made their record. Certainly Notre Dame doesn’t need the money, but they are kind of thumbing their noses at the whole deal if they decide not to go to a bowl. I grew up Catholic and I have always liked those guys, but I’m starting to get a little sick of hearing about them.

They have turned down a bowl bid before to stay home.....

and they could do it again. But in this economy I’m betting they take the money to help with Weiss’ 15 million dollar buyout (yikes).

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

And I vote for Brian Kelly....

Urban Meyer would have to be out of his mind to leave the deal he has at Florida. Nick Saben and Alabama deserve each other too much. I understand that Kelly is Catholic, he is the up-and-coming hot shot, and it makes too much sense.

How about Tuberville to Louisville? Anybody heard that one?

What else does Meyer have to prove at Florida?

Assuming he wins the NC this year, that’s 3 in 4 years. Nowhere for him to go at UF but down…

And, in a related story, this week marked the 5,000th performance of the Broadway musical "Cats." It also marked the 5,000th time a guy turned to his wife and said, "What the hell is this?"

Oooh! New poll, new poll!

Who would the SEC rather get rid of: Meyer or Saban?

I'll take the Music City Loser Bowl over anything at Legion Field in a heartbeat...

I agree

Florida has reached it’s peak. You can’t go up from where he is now. Plus, I think Urban is from somewhere up there. But with Saban, remember he has no buyout.

He's a god....

He doesn’t have anything else to prove, but everybody thinks he is a god. He’s got a Bobby Bowden kind of gig for the rest of his life, Florida has the top of the line in terms of facilities, etc., etc. I guess it’s all about ego, but if I was in Meyer’s shoes, I think I could be pretty happy with what I’ve got.

Bob Stoops

Oklahoma had their fun, I really want to see if a proven coach can turn that thing around or if Notre Dame really can’t be saved

Darth Lord Saban has two things do blame for any rumors he has to deal with. His own rep and poorly moderated message boards.

And his past actions

Saying he wouldn’t leave LSU, then once again saying he wouldn’t leave Miami, both times right before he jumped ship. So prior actions will be the cause of some accusations.

Sorry,

misread that part of your comment. In that case you are entirely correct.
