SEC Championship Game Prediction Thread

It's hard to believe that 13 weeks and 12 games have come and gone, and we are just a bowl game away from the long, empty stretch that is the college football offseason. There is, however, one more SEC game before bowls are announced, and it is the championship game between the hated Florida Gators and the even more hated Alabama Crimson Tide. Personally, I think this is going to be an extremely boring game featuring almost zero offense, and even though I'm in the minority, I also believe that if/when Texas gets by Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game, they will beat whichever SEC team they meet in the BCS title game, and probably handily. One interesting thing to consider is, what if Nebraska beats Texas? Would the loser of the SECCG get a rematch in Pasadena over TCU or Cincinnati? I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility. It's a moot point since Texas is going to win by 40+, but it's something to think about. As for my prediction for the SECCG score...

Alabama 13
Florida 17

Texas win by 40?

Really? Have you seen Nebraskas defense? No way it will be that bad. I think Texas will win because McCoy is on a mission. It will be pretty close I think though, within 10 points. If Texas were to lose I think Cincinnati would get the nod over TCU because of the confrences they are on, however I personally believe TCU is playing the best football in the nation right now. Prediction: Alabama 17, Florida 24.

Texas Tech put 31 on 'em

Texas has a better offense than the Red Raiders. Maybe 40+ was an exaggeration, but Texas will win the game handily and the outcome will hardly be in doubt.

The Florida Tebows....

win by 12…Tebow throws for an impressive 80% completion rate and even more impressive is the fact that he throws over half of them to himself making him the leading wide reciever in the game also.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

El Nino will stop La Nina...

and Satan.

The world will be a better place after the Tebow child ends the red tide infecting our beautiful conference and sends the evil one back into his cave to ponder what might have been for another year.

Florida goes on to beat whoever the BCS decides is worthy to compete.

Tim Tebow is one of the greatest college football players I’ve ever seen. And he is certainly at the very top of his generation. He will have a career in the NFL, despite what his envious naysayers wish were true.

by KungFuPanda9 on Dec 1, 2009 5:17 AM CST reply actions

No doubt

about his college career. It has been one of the best by a single player. But NFL? What position would he play? The wildcat isn’t going to be around much longer the d’s in the NFL are way too fast for that. At QB? I don’t think he could be a solid QB at the next level. So if they could find a way to use him to there advantage, maybe. He won’t be a big time player though.

by auburn1125 on Dec 1, 2009 6:33 AM CST up reply actions

Let’s use Jamarcus Russell as an example of a guy who looked great in college. He is a physical stud. And emotionally, I doubt he gets rattled. But he does not have the mental ability to think on the fly. He also can’t make reads.

Tebow is equal to Russell emotionally and physically. But he is far superior mentally.

Yes, Tebow’s throwing mechanics are bad. But there are a number of successful NFL quarterbacks who have and have had bad mechanics. But he is one of the most intelligent quarterbacks around. There are a number of pro teams who are gonna fight to take this guy and let him make their program successful.

by KungFuPanda9 on Dec 1, 2009 7:09 AM CST up reply actions

You can get away with bad mechanics in the NFL if you have a quick release

Tebow goes into a windup before each throw

So

you are saying he can throw like Jamarcus Russell, but is smarter? Okay, I will agree he may be smarter. Look at some of Russells college clips, he was a far better passer than Tim Tebow is. No comparison, I just don’t see Tebow making it as a true QB in the NFL. But, I could be wrong, guess we will have to wait and see.

by auburn1125 on Dec 1, 2009 9:57 PM CST up reply actions

My comparison was that Russell was a first round draft pick, despite what I’ve considered a lack of mental acuity. All the negative talk about Tebow is that he shouldn’t even be a quarterback in the NFL. That just doesn’t make sense. Russell has been a bust, despite all his physical prowess. The two main drawbacks to Russell is that he isn’t smart enough to be an independent force on the field, and secondly, he is LAZY.

I can forgive his lack of candle power. But his laziness is unforgivable. Tebow has a strong work ethic. He watches film, he puts in hours of analysis, he is willing to learn and capable of learning. He has risen to the level of skill required of him to perform the job he is currently hired to perform: lead a college football team to victory. By hook or by crook, with his arm or with his legs, he makes plays. The team he captains is winning.

The thing about college ball is that there are restrictions on practice time. There are no such restrictions in the pros. Thus he will put in the time to perfect his throwing motion. Hopefully he can learn to stop the long wind up which I think makes him vulnerable to turn overs against aggressive blitzers.

Tebow can do what Jamarcus Russell either cannot do or will not do. He can learn. I have no doubt that Tebow will make some NFL team a fine quarterback because he is a playmaker.

Tebow has less than 100 yards rushing and less than 150 passing.

My comments are of my own and do not represent any other bama fans or blog or website or blackberry whatever else can be connected to the stupid internet.

So if you don't like what I say grow a set or ban me and ANYONE else can ban me to if they want. I don't care about your nancy feelings anymore than you care about mine.

Deal with it. (I have for the past decade)

Florida

I think that we showed a lot of things Florida will be able to exploit on Bama. Shut down the run for the most part and McElroy will struggle. Florida’s secondary is far better than ours so it could get nasty for McElroy. We showed that you don’t need to be that successful rushing the ball to score, which is good because Florida doesn’t have a go to RB, unless you want to count Tebow who WILL get shut down- guaranteed.

The key seems to be quick pace and creative attacks to throw the Bama D off guard. Florida can do that.

Everything we did against Bama, Florida can do and better (especially on D). That said, this Bama team is so close they can taste it. They are focused. They are better than they were last year and Florida is worse. Florida should win on paper. On the field, I predict a Bama win.

That said, any SEC team going to the BCS championship is going to lose to Texas. I know I’m in the minority on this one, but that’s what my gut says.

"Shut down the run for the most part and McElroy will struggle"

McElroy didn’t struggle against us. I agree that this is the best gameplan to beat Alabama, but McElroy was the difference in UAT winning and losing the Iron Bowl.

I think that it is close

I think that Tebow pulls is out in the end. His experience and leadership will make the difference. Bama might even be leading in the fourth quarter, but then it becomes Tebow Time and he takes over. Sort of like last year.

If you are a War Damn Eagle, you can War Damn anything.

infecting "your" beautiful conference?...

KFP9 I would say that if it is anybody’s conference it is Alabama’s with 22 SEC titles. And “infecting” the conference??? If winning SEC and National Championships is infecting the conference then I guess you’ve got us on that one. Roll Tide!

Don’t get your panties in a twist. It was mostly a little metaphor for fun. See, El Nino is both a weather phenomenon and also Spanish as a reference for the baby Jesus. And Tebow has been referred to as the Tebow child. See what I did there?
*
Then La Nina is also a weather phenomenon, which used to be connected to the formation of red algae, (but that may no longer be what marine biologists think). So that was the reference.
*
Now, would you guys please beat Texas just this once and make the SEC look good out in the world? Just this once?
