End of Regular Season Thoughts

With all the "moral victory" talk and "Bowl" talk I thought I would throw my two copper pieces in about Auburn this season. I do not believe in moral victories, a win is a win and a loss is a loss.  What I do believe in is a fan base believing in what a coach and a program are doing. No one really gave this Tiger team a chance in the Iron Bowl, but the staff got the players prepared and ready to fight. That shows me that Chizik and the boys have that never give up attitude, and that was not the case last season. In my view, Auburn has a lot of great things going for them as a program.

Gene Chizik was not my first choice as a coach for "my" Auburn Tigers. I could not tell you who my first choice was, but Chizik was not it.  Some members of his staff on the other hand were my first choice. Gus Malzahn has been great for Auburn, Trooper Taylor as well. Curtis Luper has been a surprise for me. I thought that Eddie Gran should be retained, but I guess it is good that he was not. No chance of dissention in the ranks. Ted Roof took a lot of heat from me and others, but he did a lot with very little. It will be a great thing that our young players got serious playing time this season. They will be veterans next season, although they might only be sophomores.

As far as the bowl situation, it really should not matter to the fans where Auburn ends up. The players will have the ability to practice for another month because they are bowl eligible. That is huge, especially for the younger guys… and for next years starting QB. I have no idea who it is yet, but it will not be Chris Todd, so someone is getting extra practice time. Auburn and its players will also get the goodies that go with going to a bowl game. Besides the extra practice time, I think the best thing about going bowling this season is it is a reward for a team that came together and overcame their short roster and coaching changes. I think that there are too many bowls… I bet I have said that at least 100 times, but this Auburn team deserves one this season.

Being selfish, I was hoping that Auburn got to play Georgia Tech in the Chic-fil-A Bowl so I could attend, but I think that it will be UGA and Clemson playing in that game. I though that would have pushed Auburn into Shreveport to play Texas A&M, but somehow Tennessee got out of playing the Outback. Just goes to show you that no one really has a clue when it comes to bowls.   Too bad it is a 10am kickoff.

If you have not read AubTigerMans fan post you should.  It just goes to show you that playing with the heart of a champion can bring everyone closer together.  Auburn fans are the best, and I am proud to be one.

The Tigers have certainly come a long way since last season

I submitted a post prior to the mid season meltdown stating that although I’ve never been a huge Jay Jacobs fan, that he may end up looking like a genius at the end of the season. I’d be really curious to know everyone’s perception of him now that Auburn appears to be headed to a New Year’s Day bowl in a rebuilding year.

Jay Jacobs is an idiot......

Chizik’s success no matter how huge cannot change that.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

hehe....

Just when you thought it was safe to go out again. Is this guy serious? FAIL is right!

Come on Jay, get rid of this obviously dilusional knucklehead’s DA comment before i get emotional involved again…hehe. Nooo, i’m not gonna do that again (sorry again about that guys). Eventhough that other guy deserved exactly what he got, and so would this idiot.

I guess their mad because it was their monumental win over Auburn that probably helped get us a good Bowl bid. Now beat it bammer before WEA has to beat you up with words….hehe.

Opps...

That was directed at TiggersBlow, and not the writer.

Thats a shame really...

I hate that he had to get banned for being arrogant, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. Especially considering that the guy was being a prick from the 1st word he typed.

wow. you know, everyone has the right to be a fan of any school/team, but this is getting ridiculous if you can’t even blog on your own “turf” in relative peace. i have actually run into more bama fans congratulating (as difficult as that was for me to hear) Auburn for their good game in the Iron Bowl than have turned around and thrown mud once again.
college football is competitive world for sure, but Auburn and Alabama take it to another level for sure. there is much to get excited about if you’re an Auburn fan, but it never feels good to lose to ‘bama. i suspect ’bama learned some about their team last Friday…something they can use to prepare this week. i do think that Saturday’s game between UF and ’bama will be a good one. I wish we had the opportunity to play UF this year. I actually think that we would have a better chance than ’bama does Saturday. just my opinion.

i’m happy so far with Chizik, (with a few little exceptions)…
bama… you can have Saban, no thanks. that guy is going to try and win another championship, then follow some more $.
UF… same, you can have Meyer,… don’t expect us to make the same mistake twice…we’re no spread.
when the ego of the head coach dominates the perception of TEAM, then you are no longer are growing. i would put my sense of Chizik’s personality against both those guys on the recruiting couch.

if you're so happy about your bamas...

why are you arguing a point regarding coaching?…Blow, why are you knocking chizik?… worried about something? you’re really having fun aren’t you?
bama blogs too boring?

Auburn and Alabama are two VERY different places… two incredibly different programs. …logical to me that the two schools would attract coaches & players of a different “brand”. why do you care?… you said it yourself, you got Saban.
… a great coach, but hardly an Auburn guy… good luck with that.

sure there were lots of worries with the chizik hire coming from the AU folk, but the coordinator hires started to make things interesting quick. looking forward to 2010.

Yeah Gene Chizik sucks

and he almost beat you, TigersBlow. 5 point game. Let’s see, you have far superior depth and talent, but your defense got scored on because of creative play calling and your offense got shut down for much of the game.

What happened? Can you chalk that up to COACHING maybe? Did Nick Saban almost get outcoached? No way, he won by five points, he’s way better…..

by flemico on Dec 2, 2009 2:09 PM CST reply actions

hes not really a better coach

he just has a talent for recruting and stacking his team to where he dosent have to out coach. See his first year. How can you get beat by Louisiana Monroe or as the people on the radio call it…. “the yellow school bus college”

AUBURN is back!

How are bama fans concluding that

Auburn was stealing signs? sounds like an excuse as to our success against their mediocre play calling

AUBURN is back!

by auskip07 on Dec 2, 2009 4:24 PM CST reply actions

One of our players (I think Darvin Adams) said so

He said their signals were easy to pick up on or something like that

And, in a related story, this week marked the 5,000th performance of the Broadway musical "Cats." It also marked the 5,000th time a guy turned to his wife and said, "What the hell is this?"
