Outback Bowl News and Notes...
If the early bowl season is any indication, Auburn's perceived cake walk against Northwestern on Friday may be fool's gold. Underdogs have now won six of the first ten bowl games of the year. Auburn enters the Outback Bowl a touchdown favorite...
War Eagle Atlanta's post yesterday on the Forbes Magazine story about college football's most valuable football teams, seems a little off in my estimation. How can the South Carolina program be more valuable than Auburn's and yet the Tigers are one spot ahead of Southern Cal which sits in Los Angeles with no professional football team?
One of our own loyal readers and contributors, Kool Bell has a new gig I want to tell you about. He's started blogging about Auburn at Phil Steele's website. I'm pumped about him getting the opportunity. As you know, Steele puts out arguably the finest preseason college football publication in America. His site is a must visit. Click here to check out Kool Bell's work...
There's a good story out this morning from Chris Low, the SEC blogger over at ESPN. He spent time this week with Auburn coach Gene Chizik and captured some of his thoughts on his first season at Auburn...
What is it with these Florida coaches? First, basketball coach Billy Donovan tries to bolt to the Orlando Magic only to change his mind a day later, and now Pope Urban Meyer has a change of heart after one practice following his announced retirement. I guess the heartwarming story about his daughter proclaiming she finally gets her father back was not as real as first thought...
If you missed last night's Monday Night Football contest, you missed a great one. Former Auburn wide receiver Devin Aromashodu caught a dramatic 39-yard touchdown pass in overtime to give the Chicago Bears a 36-30 win over Bret Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. He finished the night with 150 yards in receptions. You may remember that Aromashodu got one of the last roster spots on the team back in August...
The Mike Leach story taking place out in Lubbock with Texas Tech is just strange. In case you missed it, the Red Raiders coach is accused of locking sophomore receiver Adam James in a closet for several hours after he received a concussion in practice. James is the son of former SMU great and ESPN personality Craig James. If you saw the 60 Minutes spot that ran last year on Leach, you know he's one strange dude...
As Auburn goes for its eighth win on Friday, you have to wonder what might have been had Mike McNeil, Aairon Savage and Zac Etheridge all been healthy this season in the Auburn defensive secondary...
I recently picked up the 20th Anniversary Retrospective DVD of Auburn's 30-20 win over Alabama in 1989. I highly recommend it. It contains a ton of raw footage from the game that's never been seen before. It also has the entire locker room speech by former coach Pat Dye. It can be ordered through any of the Auburn bookstores.

I'm on pins and needles about the Outback Bowl.
This is a very important game for the program moving forward. I think it is important for Chizik to establish himself as being able to have the team well prepared heading into a game like this. At the end of the day, I do expect CGC to do this. I think he is very good at keeping players focused, level headed, and humble. I’m looking for an impressive showing in Tampa.

Let's go Tiger Fans!!
Yeah, the ‘Cats are beginning to be a worrisome bunch! I think it should be a good game but it’s certainly not one that I’m taking for granted…
While we have to trust in CGC and his staff to have the players ready, it’s time for us Tiger Fans to get pumped as well…
Leaving ATL for Tampa in the morning — Hope to see plenty of Orange there cheering on our Tigers!

It could have been us....
Didn’t Auburn briefly consider Leach last year in our coaching search?
He wanted us.
Bloggers wanted him, but I don’t think the Auburn leadership ever wanted him.

We just THOUGHT...
…..that the tension between Tuberville and the Auburn administration was bad. Leach is supposedly going to sue to get his suspension lifted. I’m guessing things are downright poisonous in Lubbock, right now!
……And furthermore, its starting to sound a lot like Leach has been vilified a little too quickly…

Not only McNeil, Savage, and Etheridge....
Imagine if Jerrad Powers and Sinderek (however you spell it) Marks had stuck around for their senior seasons. I know the what if game is always a game of false hope, but it does make you wonder what our record may have been.

Thanks Jay...
I will do my best over at philsteele.com.
Your kind words , and inspiration, are a true blessing.
Let’s kick off the new year with a win, and enjoy our Auburn Tigers.

One of the cooler back stories on Aromashodu
is that he spent a couple of years on the Colts practice squad, but NEVER gave up his dream of being an NFL star. It was one of the coolest plays that I have ever seen in an NFL game! War Eagle, Devin!!! One of the weirder sights in NFL games was Jay Ratliff coninuously sacking poor Jason Campbell. My New Year’s wish for Campbell is that he gets a chance next year with the Redskins under Mike Shanahan. And hats off to Jay for becoming a force on his Cowboys’ team!
