Final Post of 2009
I still have the in-laws in town so forgive me if this post is off a bit. They have that effect on me.
I would like to talk a bit about the coaching things going on in the SEC. Lets start with Urban. What is he thinking? If he has something seriously wrong with his heart he needs to get that taken care of. It is obviously bad enough that a doctor told him to "step away." In my opinion the whole thing is just odd. The presser was weird, and very cryptic. I am sure there will be more after the Sugar Bowl.
With said... what about Saban coming out with his statement about not taking the "open Florida position?" It seems that he is trying to dominate the media, or maybe that is just me being anti-Saban.
If Urban steps down (which I think he will) what is the line on Dan Mullen? What about Kyle Whittingham (which would be my pick)?
Speaking of coaches... what is Mike Leach thinking? Punishment for players doing something wrong is obviously fine... but to punish a player for having a concussion? First Maggini and now Leach? Who is next?
I am liking what we have going on here in Auburn. Chizik seems to have Auburn in a good place. Although Auburn has some issues with players’ grades and a couple of off the field issues, every program has that. At least they are not huge issues, and the coaches are keeping their noses clean. Hopefully the Tigers can pull in more recruits and put us in a better place. Is anyone a bit worried about the lack of big name offensive lineman in the class? That is the one position that Auburn needs help now, not later... now.
My quick thoughts on the game Friday. Auburn better not overlook the Wildcats. They can score. Auburn is typically not very good in early games, and this one is really early for the Central Time Zone folks. It is also hard to stay focused on a football game when there are so many appearances and "fun" things going on. I am not so much worried about the offense, but the defense is going to have to step up from the start. It took the Georgia offense almost and entire half, but they finally got going. But the defense was there from the start. Auburn will need to play well, or Northwestern could sneak up and win this one. I will be yelling like a crazy man from my living room, and hope that all that those in attendance do the same.

Actually, I’m a little more worried about our offense than our defense for this game. I didn’t like it one bit when Coach Chizik mentioned that the guys were “rusty” on Monday, which I took to mean as “not focused.” He said he got their minds right by Tuesday.
.
Todd will have to be at his best, and Lutz will have to be over-the-top good to replace Smith as a starter. We should have McCalebb, which is always a good thing. But Smith is one of those ice berg kinda guys. You only get to see about ten percent of his play-making contribution.
.
I agree that it would be nice to have some more OL candidates on our roster. Haven’t-been-to-a-bowl-game-in-30-years Temple had to rely on teeny, tiny, teeny, little 5 foot 5, 165 pounds #22 as their main running back after their other not-so-big guy went down. But their OL consisted of 300+ pounders across the board and the little guy made gains, usually at the corners. But still, those big eaters really made a difference for the first three quarters.
Happy New Year WarDamnZach...
I think the cat is not out of the bag for offensive linemenin this recruiting class. Coach Chizik and his staff play things real close to the vest. The more mature players are doing the same thing on this year’s team. It makes sense to me, that some of the recruits would too.

crazy CFB times for sure...
i said it before… AU needed to keep it clean/steer clear this bowl prep period. this outback game is BIG for Auburn. i think that this game is not a typical SEC / big 10 match-up in the traditional sense. the spread offenses and their unique uses of them will really make this and interesting game. I also don’t see NU matching the ‘slow team’ mold of the big 10… i think they are going to have some quickness to them on both sides of the ball that will be competitive.
post reg. season… AU has managed to stay out of the mud mostly,…the E.Smith crap was unfortunate…and i was really hoping for A&M to throw UGA and the Richt deal into an offseason tailspin,… but really, i’ll settle for this urban meyer nonsense and a bama loss in the NC(crossing fingers). i can just imagine the awkward position of the UF staff having to field recruit’s questions over and over again about whether or not meyer will coach in 2010. i do think he has completely changed his mind and will coach in 2010. changing to AU: i wonder about the recruit targeting that is happening at particular the RB and QB positions… are we getting greedy and focusing too much on the “skill positions” … just because we have some momentum right now?… can’t forget to fill in and build some depth where we need… especially the offensive line like you say. i do think that it will be good to have OMac, Fannin and a 2 solid RB duo (Dyer & Lattimore?!)going into 2010… how is Malzahn going to call a damn play?
the bleacher report on AU’s 2010 receiving corp is exciting… to say the least. put some pounds on adams in the off season and he is going to tear it up.
on these coaches,… the hammer must come down. war eagle everbody.

...
oh,… AU beat NU 28 – 16 on PS3 last night… thanks to me.
Tate ran a kickoff for a TD…and NU scored a TD with no time on the clock in the 4th.

when I did it. I like your game better, but I’d take either one. WDE
"We're at AUBURN. I think that says it all. We're going after the best in the country -- no matter when, what, where, how. That's how we're going to do it. We're going to work really hard to try to get that done every year -- including this one." -- Auburn University Head Football Coach Gene Chizik
There is probably more
to this Leach thing than meets the eye. Rumors abound about the kid in quiestion being a primadonna (sp) all year…I’ll wait till all the facts come out before making up my mind on this issue. It’s hard to believe that the coach would fight this so hard if it was as simple as the media first reported.
Upon moving to AL, I let my wife decide who she would root for. After one day at a new job full of Bama fans, she met me at the door with a hearty cry of "WAR EAGLE"
