Leach Fired at Texas Tech

We knew this was coming when Leach's attorney filed for an injunction so he could coach in the Alamo bowl, but ESPN is reporting that Mike Leach has been fired from TTU. More coming as this story breaks. The timing is interesting as TTU would owe Leach a $800,000 bonus if he was still the coach by December 31st.
Here's an interesting link from a local station in Lubbock who interview Leach's attorney and take a look at the alledged 'closet' where the confinement took place. Seems that initial reports may have been exaggerated a bit.

My boss...
confines me to a box everyday. I wonder if I can get him fired. My cubicle is way smaller than that shed and it doesn’t have a fan or ice maker!
I guess we've establiswhed that the James kid is a liar.
I’m trying to figger out why TTU is backing ther kid. THe only rationale I can speculate is that the TTU PTB awant Leach out so bad, they’ll jump at any opportunity. This will cost TTU a lot of money when Leach wins the suit.
Leach’s tell-all book deal will embarass TTU further.
This firing comes from...
…the school that was glad to hire the notorious athlete abuser, Bobby Knight ? What’s up with that ??? Got to be more to the story.

Hoopie’s got it right. The powers at TexTech have been at odds with Leach for awhile. Granted, he has a big fat ego and likes pirates. He tells them “Aaaargh, heave to” and stuff like that instead of “yessir, yessir, three bags full, sir. Thank you may I have another.” And they don’t like him because he goes his own way.
.
The same thing that drew Leach into moderately “abusing” the player is the same thing which is driving his bosses to get rid of him. The kid was passive/aggressively disrespectful to Leach, just as Leach is probably a little more in-your-face disrespectful to his bosses.
.
What gets me is that what he did to the kid is pretty minor. There was no physical abuse. So we’re into the fuzzy aea of mental cruelty. Imagine that. A football coach who is aggressive and says mean things. The game has got to change. Or maybe it is changing. Anyway…
.
Leach got his team to a bowl game, and the school will still get all that bowl money. I’m sure his lawyer will get him some or all of his $800k. But once the college fired him for cause, he lost a lot of rights to his separation parachutes.
Mostly.
I’m sure Leach’s attorney will be disputing strongly Tech’s assertion that the termination was “for cause”, and if this is the best Tech has to support Leach’s ouster, well, someone had better buy their AD and administration some good lube, because Tech will get screwed in court.
What he did to the kid is something I would’ve sold my soul for several times when I’ve had moderately severe migraines, or the time I was concussed. Dark, cool room with medical personnel nearby? Had it been me, I might’ve asked to unplug the ice machine to reduce the noise, but beyond that, that’s a huge shed, and I would’ve been happy. Not letting him fall asleep in that shed? Aren’t you supposed to keep someone with a suspected concussion awake? WAAH! James should be off the team, and Tech should hire a new president and AD, after those individuals are forced to grovel to get Leach back.
Just because I'm an occasional to frequent troll, doesn't mean I lack a heart or don't have a point. Rocky Top Talk blog ban: I did it for teh lulz.
What about the players quotes they keep playing on ESPN about how
happy they are that Leach is gone? And what about the ‘stern talking too’ that James got from Leach (ala Chancleor interview on ESPN)? The whole situation smells. Does anyone think it would be a big deal if James ‘s Dad didn’t call games for ESPN??
