Auburn to play Northwestern in Outback Bowl

For everyone who thought we would be playing Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl you'll be surprised to learn that we will actually face Northwestern.  Northwestern defeated Wisconsin in their head to head matchup.  For more on this feel free to read what Charles Goldberg had to say by clicking here.  Northwestern will be brining their overall record of 8-4 to the Outback Bowl.  They were 5-3 in their conference.

Don't forget that if you are going to the game to order your tickets through the Auburn Athletic Department.  You can contact the ticket office or visit the Auburn Athletics website by going to www.auburntigers.com

Big Ten fan here

This makes no sense to me. Feel free to add this to the list of confusing Outback Bowl deicisons. Wisconsin has a better record, a bigger draw, a larger fanbase, and Northwestern hasn’t won a bowl game in more than sixty years.

I just….this totally confuses me.

I'm not trying to dis you guys or anything

Fitz is a great coach, and I have respect for him, but this is just odd, is all.

But, hey, win this and all is forgiven.

Good luck

After getting....

…..iso-blocked into Oblivion in the 2006 Capital One Bowl, by Wisconsin, I am relieved! We lost 24-10, but it could have EASILY been 51-3. I haven’t seen the Tigers get whipped that badly up front since the Bear Bryant years. We’re a little bigger in the front seven these days, than in 2005. But still defending a spread offense sounds easier to me, than dealing with a 248 pound Wisconsin running back.

……Win or lose, I’m hoping Gene Chizik and the staff get great use out of the bowl practice period, and it helps us go foward. War Eagle!

oops -

As for me, I’m excited about the two teams; and being in Tampa; and (hopefully) the warmer weather, etc. Should be a good game… Hope to see ya all there!

I think playing Northwestern will make it a more entertaining game

I’m not sure if either team represents a tougher test than the other, but I haven’t followed it too closely.

And, in a related story, this week marked the 5,000th performance of the Broadway musical "Cats." It also marked the 5,000th time a guy turned to his wife and said, "What the hell is this?"

Bad choice by Outback

Game will be boring. Should have been Tate vs. Clay.

by MikeinArkansas on Dec 6, 2009 7:20 PM CST reply actions

I disagree

The game would have been boring if it were AU-UW. AU-NU will be high scoring, and exciting. Kinda cool that we’re playing in the first game of 2010.

something tells me these bowls...

don’t lean SEC Ws as much this year. I think LSU is going to have a tough time against penn st.,… i think kentucky and georgia will find themselves in trouble

ketucky vs. clemson
georgia vs. tex A&M
tennessee vs. va tech.
ole miss vs. oklah. st.
south carol vs. UCONN
arkansas vs. e. carol.
UF vs. cinci

your thoughts? D, D, Defense.

I think the SEC will be fortunate to go .500 in bowls this season

I agree with most of that.

I think Ole Miss is a big Maybe and If GA plays like they did against Tech, they’ll win.
So I would just switch those 2.

I agree --

All depends on which UGA and Ole Miss teams show up… And, as far as that, which AU team will show up…

We need to have a consistent game!

I remember hearing a Bama player or coach saying he knew that Malzahn was great at scripting the first 15-20 plays in a game, but once he had to call plays on the fly, he didn’t do as well. Look at our recent games against UGA and UAT, and it makes sense. Hot start, cold finish.

don’t see georgia with the go – to guy that equals up with mccalister…i’ll go with mccalister and the senior QB snead against the poor performing ok st. – they didn’t even show against oklahoma recently…and aren’t going to have much more success against ole miss’s D.

not sure anyone wants to try and outscore Texas A&M after their game w/ texas (they scored 39 on texas!) and still lost 49-39 i think.
that QB for A&M is damn good.

we shall see… s.
