Darvin Adams Not on Coaches All SEC Team?

I guess im just trying to figure this out?   Not picking on Julio Jones  apparently he has great blocking abilitys but when it comes to catching balls i have seen him drop more catchable passes then make great catches.

Darvin Adams     48 receptions   855 yards   17.8 per recep  10 Touch downs

Julio Jones          42                       573                 13.6                       4

AJ  Green             47                       751                    16                        6

Shay Hodge        63                      1023                  16.2                    8

Brandon LaFell   52                      705                     13.6                   10

To me it looks like he is atleast the 2nd best WR in the SEC

Here is the list decide for your self    Bold names are Auburn players   You would think since we had one of the best offenses there would be more offensive players on the list?   But im glad False start Ziemba made the list.

So are you going to make a case for Adams or just complain that he didn’t make it? I don’t think Adams would have even been on a third team had their been one…

I didnt have time to research the stats

They are up now. Happy i disagree comparing his numbers to the rest of the all SEC he stacks up nicely or better then most

Ask and you shall receive....

Darvin caught more passes(48) for more yardage(855) and more touchdowns(10) than Green(47, 751, 6) did. Caught less passes than Lafell(52) and tied on touchdowns, but had a better pre-catch avg. for more yards(705). Hodge had more yards(1023) and more catches(63) but had less touchdowns(8) and less pre-catch avg. I couldn’t even find Julio, media darling, Jones in the top 100 receivers in the nation. But he just magically appears on the All-SEC team. He’s a great receiver but the numbers don’t show it. So why else would they put him in there unless they are simply judging “potential”.

Now considering the numbers if you’d still leave him off your 1st, 2nd, and “3rd” team All-SEC then something else is up with your evalution. I would say simply that your being a homer but the LSU Junno that i know is a fair and unbias person. So i ask you why wouldn’t you put him in there?

by Paratiger on Dec 9, 2009 10:20 AM CST up reply actions

Keep in mind...

All those are National numbers. Shay Hodge came in at 21, Darvin Adams is next at 43, Then Green at 64, LaFell at 81, and Jones is a “No Show” in the Top 100. Hell they left out Riley Cooper(55) and Aaron Hernandez(68). But Jones is “THE MAN”! So he has to be in there, Right?

by Paratiger on Dec 9, 2009 10:27 AM CST up reply actions

Here we go...

Julio Jones has 573 receiving yards for a grand total 4 TDs. And he deserves to be in the discussion? I’d be willing to bet that our 2nd leading receiver, Terrell Zachary, has more yards and TDs than Jones. But Adams doesn’t belong on the All-SEC team. Come on!

by Paratiger on Dec 9, 2009 10:44 AM CST up reply actions

Terrell Z has 24 recept 466 Yards and 5 Touchdowns

About 100 less yards and 1 touch down better in half the receptions :)

I think its called a Man crush

And all the SEC coaches have it

Well...

you’re one the first team of dickheads. Damn, LSU fans are assholes.

Dang Sparkey....

Jump on Junno! I don’t think he meant anything by his comments. Although they did seem a lil arrogant. I just think he is ignorant of the actually numbers. Atleast give the man a chance to explain himself. If he can…..

We’re waiting LSU Junno.

by Paratiger on Dec 9, 2009 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

No kidding Sparkey

It is a legitimate question to ask. Don’t complain about your home team player not making the All SEC list. Make a claim and support your claim with facts. I didn’t say “DARVIN SUX AHAHAH LOSER” I asked you guys to make a case.

Darvin Adams 48 receptions 855 yards 17.8 per recep 10 Touch downs
Julio Jones 42 receptions 573 yards 13.6 per recep 4 Touch downs
AJ Green 47 receptions 751 yards 16 per recep 6 Touch downs
Shay Hodge 63 receptions 1023 yards 16.2 per recep 8 Touch downs
Brandon LaFell 52 receptions 705 yards 13.6 per recep 10 Touch downs

These are the stats we are looking at…My immediate argument is what did these players do in conference? Did they pad their stats against the cupcakes or where their numbers consistent? I’ll be honest, I watched every AU game this year, and my opinion is that Darvin disappears against good defenses. Let’s see what the stats say…

SEC Stats
Darvin Adams – 27 receptions 522 yards 19.3 per recep 2 Touch downs
Julio Jones – 32 receptions 425 yards 13.3 per recep 3 Touchdowns
AJ Green – 32 receptions 546 yards 17.1 per recep 5 Touchdowns
Shay Hodge – 41 receptions 619 yards 15.1 per recep 5 Touchdowns
Brandon LaFell 39 receptions 475 yards 12.2 per recep 4 Touchdowns

So Darvin is competitive with these guys but he has the least receptions, least TDs and he is middle of the pack in yds.

Let’s compare Darvin’s SEC numbers to a WR who also didn’t make the cut. I’ll use Terrance Tolliver of LSU as a comparison.
TT’s #’s. 33 receptions 410 12.4 per recep 1 touchdown

Tolliver had one less TD, 6 more receptions and about a 100 less yds, and he’s our # 2 WR.

I just don’t think Darvin’s numbers in SEC play were strong enough to get ALL-SEC recognition. Especially his TD #s.

by LSU Jonno on Dec 9, 2009 2:07 PM CST up reply actions

If your going to say Darvins SEC#s werent good enough

Im going to say Julios werent either. So then we should look at total stats where Darvin completely runs away with it.

AUBURN is back!

by auskip07 on Dec 9, 2009 2:33 PM CST up reply actions

We can argue all day about what stats are more worthy of consideration...

But I think we can all agree on this. When you look at straight stats it appears Darvin has a good case to be on the all sec team. When you look at SEC numbers it is at least understandable why he was left off the list, and doesn’t really look like a snub.

I think that is a fair assessment.

Oh and FWIW, if there was a third team, after looking at the stats Darvin probably should be on it.

by LSU Jonno on Dec 9, 2009 4:49 PM CST up reply actions

LOL

Third team it is….

AUBURN is back!

by auskip07 on Dec 9, 2009 7:41 PM CST up reply actions

You can’t say “Well let’s just look at his SEC stats.” It’s about the entire year. Adams got snubbed, and that’s all there is to it. It comes down to name recognition. Yes, I’m an Auburn fan, but I’m also a realist. Julio Jones and A.J. Green made the All-SEC teams because of who they are. Because they were supposed to be good. All of a sudden, Darvin Adams comes along, a guy who nobody thought would do anything, and the SEC doesn’t know what to do. Based purely on stats, the 1st team receivers should be Shay Hodge and Darvin Adams or Branden LaFell (very similar stats). I just want them to fair about it. The postseason awards are supposed to based on the performance on the field, and there’s nothing fair about Darvin Adams not making either All-SEC team. Julio Jones? Seriously? He’s a 2nd team All-SEC player with those stats? Look, the guy is an extremely talented football player, but he didn’t do enough on the field to warrant an All-SEC selection. Just be real about it.

by mspirate on Dec 9, 2009 11:19 PM CST up reply actions

Not to mention every single one of those receivers has cupcake teams that they pad their stats against

by mspirate on Dec 9, 2009 11:21 PM CST up reply actions

You can’t say "Well let’s just look at his SEC stats

I guess I missed where there are rules governing the voting. If there were a complete set of unbiased rules based on stats we wouldn’t need a “vote” it would be an automatic award. What is the fun in that?

I’m not saying SEC stats are the only stats that matter, but it may give you guys some insight into why Darvin didn’t make the cut. It appears his stats were more inflated by the cupcakes more than the other WRs on the list.

by LSU Jonno on Dec 10, 2009 8:52 AM CST up reply actions

Inflated more?

The only thing Darvin trails in is touchdowns. The number of receptions are virtually the same (with Jones and Green), and he has more yards than Jones and LaFell. You can slice this any way you want to, but the bottom line is that Green and Jones got voted on because of name recognition. Don’t act like there’s any other reason.

by mspirate on Dec 10, 2009 10:18 AM CST up reply actions

I stand by my comment.

10 TD’s, that’s good enough to be on the third team period end of story. Let’s not forget, he had a below average guy that would lock on him throughout a game yet he still found ways to get through the defense. Frankly Jonno, your arrogance is irritating at best.

by Sparkey on Dec 10, 2009 2:05 PM CST reply actions

Adams got the shaft.

Plain and simple.

But in a year when Ingram won the Heisman and there could be arguments made where he isn’t even the strongest back in the conference, stuff like that happens. Rediculous.
