Iron Bowl on Fridays now

For the next two years, we will be playing Alabama on the day after Thanksgiving on CBS. Check out the following webpages:

I can't say I'm thrilled about this. I understand that the game will get more coverage and more viewers than if it were slated up against other games on Saturday like it usually is, but damn it, it just doesn't feel right. I was against moving the game to after Thanksgiving to start with, and now this? Let's go ahead and play it on the second Tuesday of the season, eh?

I'd post my true feelings,

…..but the “no cussing” crowd would tar and feather me! This $%^#&@ing BITES!

…..Mind you, I do take a week of vacation every Thanksgiving, anyway. But this pretty much hoses up our traditional family Thanksgiving plans. In the past, we assemble on Thanksgiving Day on Lookout Mountain at my parents’ place, and feast. On Black Friday, we’re up early and hiking around DeSoto State Park, and enjoying nature. They’ve got basic cable up there, but only one 20-year old 19 inch TV, and no internet. And of course, we might actually score tickets to the game. Sounds like couple of years of messed up Thanksgiving…

…..I thought Black Friday was LSU and Arkansas’ day? That’s the Battle of the Boot Day, and has been for a long time.

Iron Bowl National Championship on a Friday?

When will they hand us the trophy after we get ’em done next year?

Rest of the Nation be damned

Regardless of time or location i will find a way to watch the game and root for Auburn. It isnt like they are going to respect our team more if people watch it nationally.

Not the best time...

But the national exposure doesn’t hurt.

Hopefully, they won’t make a tradition out of it…

Fine by me

Just means we get our revenge a day sooner, right? WDE!

What do an Auburn fan and a bammer have in common? (Neither of them ever attended that school in tuscaloosa).

If it’s at night then okay but if it’s the same time as the Colorado Nebraska game then I’m gonna be pissed!

Not ok

As a student this is going to really put a damper on things. School is out for that week. So we will have the Georgia game then a week of school, then our off weekend then our week off with the iron bowl on Friday. Not to mention Thanksgiving is going to be on Thursday. Work is getting out quickly on campus about the changes. Everyone is trying to make sure they will get back early enough but that means alot of flying on thanksgiving day for students if they want to get there for the 1:30 kickoff. I dont see it happening for alot of students. :(

The day after Thanksgiving games blow. I’m glad to give it up for 2 years. Spread the pain around.

You're not off the hook yet

With a 1:30 game that means CBS will show a 5:00 game as well. In the past a 1:30 versus 2:30 meant a double header…

Nah,

The Friday game is always early. Not a double header.

That Boot battle...

…..has been a pretty entertaining game, most Black Fridays lately. But it’s also been a “catch a few plays here and there” game, and maybe watch the whole 4th quarter as it gets dark and everyone starts up on Happy Hour. I’m sure it’s no fun at all when it disrupts your whole holiday setup.

…..Yes, I’m sure it goes without saying, but we SEC fans will work around ANY holiday, if it means possibly missing a big rivalry game! We’d reschedule Christmas, if they put the Iron Bowl on December 25th! That’s the way it is….

by Acid Reign on Apr 11, 2009 7:24 PM CDT up reply actions

The problem with the Friday game...

Is not that it keep people from watching on TV, you are right we work around that…

It’s that it keeps people out of the stadium. And those who DO go to the game are likely to be driving in that morning and with a 1:30 kickoff it severely affects tailgating. All that to say…I’ve been to more entertaining Tulane games than Arkansas games. The Arkansas ticket is the easiest to get every year, easier than Miss St.

This blows

Sucks for me, but sucks twice as bad for the students. Exposure? Tell that to Arkansas.

It sucks big time......

The Gadsden Sportsmans Club will not be having their Iron Bowl party outside the stadium for the first time in many years. There will not be enough time to set every thing up…and no one is going to do it on Thanksgiving day. This is a travesty. No free booze, food, big screen Hi Def TV’s at the tailgate………this just sucks.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

by Todd92 on Apr 14, 2009 11:28 AM CDT reply actions

Yep, that's my....

biggest disappointment. The atmosphere of College football’s biggest rivalry may be hampered by an early Friday game. The late games (4-8pm kickoff) traditionally have a more intense & exciting atmosphere. Traditional tailgaiting (like Gadsden Sportsman & others) help build that “Unique Iron Bowl Atmosphere”. As we said in ‘89 we’ll play bama anywhere anytime. However I would like the nation to get a glimpse of how special this game is !
