Saban Hedging Himself By Blaming Fans?

That roar you hear, Nick, is the coming backlash...
My minions brought me this little piece that mostly went unnoticed over the weekend, with the exception of Ian Rapoport of the Birmingham News, who caught a little diddy blurbed by Saban after the crimson A-Day game this weekend. Talking about how fan support waned after the regular season last year:
"There's very little interest from our fans, our players or anybody else to play in the Sugar Bowl, which to me is a tremendous opportunity," Saban said. "I tried to tell everyone, you're only going to remember one thing about this game and that's the outcome. So there's no interest, there's no passion and everybody is embarrassed because of how we played. Well, it's because you didn't have any passion for it, you didn't have any interest in it, you didn't have any enthusiasm to do it, and that's across the board. And that's not right. We go to a BCS bowl game, everybody ought to be positive and enthusiastic about what we're doing."
Now we've heard Saban cautioning fans before about their expectations, but any statements made have always stopped short of blaming them for lackluster performance on the field. Could the Capstone Pressure Cooker be gettting too big a head of steam, or is Nick hedging himself for a possible letdown this fall? Yours truly made the claim back in February that Tide Fans weren't going to settle for anything less than a SEC and/or National championship this fall, despite their claims to the contrary and that they were all truly level-headed about the direction and speed the program was moving. Yea, right.
But regardless if this is just casual banter from the mouth of the savior, who sometimes drivels on when not on teleprompter, (Whoops! Sorry. Wrong savior) you have to question the timing of it all. You're coming off your second recruiting national championship in a row, an undefeated regular season and a beatdown of your hated rival. Why chastise your fanbase so, especially now since this is the dawn of the return to greatness? I'd sure love to know. Could it be that all-knowing, all-seeing barometer, A-Day Game Attendance? Hmmm....

Saban Is A Headcase
I don’t know why is trying to stick the blame on everyone else? I know plenty of Alabama fans who were psyched about going to a BCS bowl game. It’s sad because i’m pretty sure once he stepped foot in Tuscaloosa he saw the zombie like attitude towards having a championship. It’s half him and half stereotypical UA fan pressure.
Oh well...
As long as the recruiting level doesn’t drop to mediocre and he doesn’t finish 5-7 next season, and our AD fires him for only winning 5 games, yet hires a coach who’s also only won 5 games (in his entire career) all else looks promising to me. :-)
Mark my words......
if Bama has a season with 4 losses then this event may be the begining of the end for Saban. I think the fan base will let this pass with only a little if any ridicule for him because of last years results. If it goes bad this year then this will come back to bite him.

no
there is no way in hell Bama is gonna fire Nick Saban now or anytime soon, not when he’s landed 2 straight #1 recruiting classes and an SEC West title in his 2nd season. Bama could go 5-7 and he’d keep his job (unlike some other school that i root for). maybe if the Tide had 2 or 3 straight 6 or 7 win seasons then yeah..he’d be gone. but they f-ing love him right now and they don’t care what he says.

finally
some reasonable level heading thinking..
‘When you build a house and you make it hurricane-proof by putting certain kinds of windows in it, and use cement instead of stick construction and all that kind of stuff, you’re getting prepared for what? A hurricane that may or may never every come." ’We’re going to have 12 hurricanes next year, we know they’re coming.’
- Coach Nick Saban
Strange.....
a reasonable level head describing some of the most unreasonable least level headed fans in all of sports.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
It's hard...
…to get my level head around that last statement.

Bammers...
Are loving it predicting us winning only 3-5 games next year, but I’d like to see them define abject failure for themselves this coming season. 7 wins? Not taking a return trip to the SECCG? That’s how I would define it for them. Only one trip to ATL this year—in September…

Seven wins...
is still more career wins than Gene Cheez-it will have at the end of the 2009 season. :-P
The pic reminds me
of when Hulk Hogan used to do the thing in the ring where he held his hand up to his ear.

It is true
that bama fans can have high expectations that can sometimes border on delusional, but I think this quote prob reads worse than he meant it.
The guy is no wordsmith. He proved that with the Pearl Harbor 9/11 quote. It seems to me he was more or less looking to give a reality check to fans and say “Be happy with what we accomplished” since he walked in the door the program has improved by leaps and bounds (the sonofabitch) and I think he just wants to keep that fresh in fans’ minds.
As far as losing 4 games and getting the boot, I don’t see that happening, especially if they continue to beat us by 30 points.

pretty much right on
he was trying to say to those who were pissed about losing a BCS game ….get over it. Just 5 months earlier few had us in the top 25. That fact that we made it to the SECCG and played in a BCS game is simply amazing. NOw we just need to finish the job and win the SEC and win a BCS game. MIght happen this year…might happen next year…

Might not happen at all.....
thats why they play the games.

so....
why is it whenever i do my rounds on the enemies web sites (rockytoptalk, andthevalleyshook, and here) this is the one place that has a topic about Alabama at least once every six posts?
Because we want to make slow sweet passionate love to you

He's hedging himself--just in case!
I give him credit for even knowing who Wallace Wade was, though…

Bama
I just hope Bama doesnt lose 4 games this coming year because that means 9/11 will happen again and I dont want to go to war again.
