Looking at this list I see some glaring issues. First and most noted is the Offensive Line. We only have 12 guys and some of them are no where near ready to line up against SEC guys.
Also when you have six Quarterbacks on scholly… that means you have two too many. Does anyone but me think that it is sad that with six, none are able to take the reigns and lead us? Maybe we will get lucky and Kodi or Neil will emerge. Todd and Trotter being hurt kind of take them out of the race at this point.
The Running Back pool will get smaller; I see at least one of these guys heading over to the defensive side of the ball. Same thing at Wide Receiver… we have a ton… maybe
Our Defensive Line and Linebackers look fine to me. I know that they were suspect during the A-Day game, but I think with the summer to prepare we will be fine. Spencer Pybus should be much improved at the LB position.
I still question the scholarship to a deep snapper, but what the hell!

Receiver...
……I’ve been screaming about Knox-coached receivers for YEARS. On A-Day, there was only one good pass that was dropped, and that was Harry Adams, who’s just switched from corner. The other two drops were on questionable balls, an underthrow on a post (Derrick Winter), with safety contact as a result, and on a way-high hitch pass (Carr, who frankly showed great leaping ability to even just get a hand on it!).
…..Receiver-wise, I think Brent Slusher is one of those “medical scholarship” deals. I think he’s done playing. Gabe McKenzie might be, too. Finally, Montez Billings was held out of spring drills this year, because of an “academic reason,” but he was on the list of guys who graduated from Auburn, this week. Huh? How does THAT work? He might be done, too.
…..I’m not upset at Dax getting a scholly. If they can get that thing back there accurately 100% of the time, it’s worth it. I remember one of those walk-on snapper years, in Knoxville. It was raining cats and dogs, and the offense was going nowhere. Reggie Cobb was tearing off huge chunks of yardage. Tennessee’s ball-boys were in on it, too. Nothing but wet balls, until Auburn needed to punt. Then, a dry ball would appear out of nowhere, and the walk-on would snap it over the punter’s head.
…..Late in the first quarter, Ron Burchfield ballooned one 20 yards over over rookie punter Chris Dickenson’s head, and it rolled out of the end zone for a safety, giving UT a 2-0 lead. Exit Burchfield. Six minutes later, it was Travis Galloway’s turn, and he sent one all the way to the goal line and beyond. The line of scrimmage was the 35! Dickenson had to fall on that thing for a safety, too!
…..Reggie Cobb rushed for 225 on the day, including a 79-yarder that put the Vols up 14-3. Auburn would get an 83 yard bomb from Reggie Slack to Alexander Wright, but it wasn’t enough. The Tigers fell, 21-14. Cobb’s career game was his curtain call. He was kicked off the team shortly thereafter.
Addendum.
…..Before the Rocky Top crowd strikes! That WAS Cobb’s 1989 swan song, but he did return from suspension for the 1990 season, I think. It was the Majors Cup, before the Fulmer Cup, after all!
Brent Turner earned a scholly as a long snapper...
He was a walk on with us for the Bowden/Oliver season. Then the next with CTT. His senior season he was so dependable, he earned it!
WAR EAGLE!
I played HS ball with Brent. The Wetumpka Indians.
All he did in his spare time was practice the long snap. It had some serious zip on it.
Also on that team was Reid Tankersley, Tim Castro, and a few others that played college football and baseball elsewhere.

If memory serves me correctly....
AJ Greene and Darrell Roseman were DE recruits who moved to OL prior to last season….not much has been said about their development as OL but I would assume OT considering the mobility and explosive capability that a DE must possess. Perhaps with some good coaching they may contribute considerably.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Concerning Long Snappers...
Ask the 02-03 NY Giants how important a long snapper is…
They’re just like punters: you hate to spend money on them, and you need a reliable one, so you might as well get the best one out there. Better than using that scholly on a 3 star WR who will never see playing time.
