Ups and Downs

Hopefully WEA will not mind,  I am posting a bit early to bring you some breaking news...

The ups and downs of College Football at Auburn is upon us.  Aarion Savage is out for the season, and maybe his career with a torn Achilles Tendon.  There is nothing like having a good leader off the playing field two years in a row.  This will not help our defensive backs situation at all.  In fact, this is a killer blow.  Another young buck is going to have to step up.

On the flip side of that, Auburn picked up another good recruit today in Jessel Curry.  I am sure that you have heard of this kid… he is the one that was committed to West Virginia and de-committed after attending the "Big Cat." He is a FB in High School, but will be a line backer here on the Plains.  He is listed as a 3 star on Rivals, but again that is not as a LB.  I don’t take much stock in the star rankings anyhow.

Michael Dyer should be in the AU Camp by the end of the month.  He is preaching Auburn to anyone who will listen.  Apparently Dakota Mosley is listening.  He is a teammate of Dyer and will be an Offensive Lineman.  Lord knows we need all the help we can get up front.  There is nothing waiting in the wings should the starters go down.

Are you serious....

Damn your right. That is a huge blow for us on defense. He was not only talented but experianced. Our most experianced corner to boot. Mmmm, It will be interesting how this is handled. No doubt it should open some recruits eyes at the possiblity of early playing time at that position.

Damn!

Who is handeling strength and conditioning? Anyone know?

Is it still Yoxall? Last year injuries were one of several major problems. We had torn this and torn that all year. Do you think these kids are as physically prepared as they need to be?

It must be Mike Shula

cause ya’ll are having a lot of issues we had with injuries in The Dark Ages (AKA Shula Years).

That sucks to hear, I hate for any young athlete to go down like that.

In his defense

We didnt have alot of injuries the prior to last year. Maybe its just a run of bad luck

Last years injuries

Last years injuries were mostly all on the d side of the ball. It may have had something to do with them having to play 4994839438 extra plays because the offense couldnt walk without tripping.

SAVAGE

This is VERY unfortunate. Aaron Savage was a very good player when he played.. I thought we were going to get him back. Good luck Mr. Savage. Do the best for you and if AUBURN is in your plans…then that would be great.

With

The quarterback situation and lack of depth overall, i would have to say this might not be Bad for auburn. We will get more young guys in and go through some growing pains sooner then later. War Eagle

Definitley a setback...

but as auskip07 stated; this may be the best time to get hit with injuries. Run those young kids out there and let them learn on instincts and through mistakes. I’ve got no problem with that if it gets us to a better place in the long run. I’d rather see a freshman making freshman mistakes than juniors and seniors making freshman mistakes.

Chizik

Coach Chizik is being quite low key about the injury to Savage. He is calling it a “slight” injury. We shall see what comes of this. For what it is worth, Chizik takes the Belicheck side of discussing injuries. To say that he does not discuss them much at all.

Concur.

AU’s secondary wasn’t very good last year, and this year it will be sans Powers. Horrible news.

Is Dyer really that close to committing? Man the Arkansas guys are going to crap themselves. I’d much rather him at AU than Arky. The biggest worry I’d have as an AU fan right now is hanging on to some of these commits if the losses start piling up. It could avalanche quickly without a strong start to the season.

i can't tell

if that was a dig or compliment…

I would take it that way. Because you guys are raking in the recruits.

Zach, where did you here he was out for the season?

If the achillies is just torn and not ruptured, he still has a chance of getting back on the field this season with the proper treatment. If it is a complete rupture, it most definately will require season ending surgery. But from what I have read on various sites is that it is a slight injury, which leads me to believe that it is only a slight tear.

by Jumpn_JackFlash on Jun 17, 2009 9:35 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Using personal experience

I know someone who tore the Achillies and it was called “Clean Tear.” Granted they were not a D-1 level athlete with the best trainer’s money can buy, but he was playing NAIA basketball. He was out of action the entire season and never regained his quickness. It virtually ended his basketball career. This close to the season, with missing last season and practice time this year. If it is his Achillies… IMO he is done this year.

If it is not a complete rupture or severe tear/strain of the tendon...

then it is very possible he will still be able to play this year. I would look for him to miss at least the first 3-5 games, but after that, (provided the injury is minor) he should be back close to 100%.

Stretching

I do not want to see a repeat of last year where we injured all the players off the field. Conditioning must include stretching as well. To stretch the achilles you can do calf raises on a step or 2X4 and get a good stretch by dipping below the step.

Warm ups and stretching are not sexy, but they do prevent pulls and tears.

I don't remember where I heard this...

But I heard that Under Armor is inferior equipment and that some (other SEC coaches) blame Auburn’s injuries on their equipment deal and use that “fact” during recruiting.

Now that I think about it, I feel like I heard it on PF, so maybe this is a crap theory.

by LSU Jonno on Jun 17, 2009 11:32 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Correct me if I'm wrong but......

did’nt Tez Doolittle have a ruptured Achilles and came back from surgery to have it reattached? Either way I hope for the best with Aarron Savage whether that includes AU football in his future or not. And this will probably mean that the Juco CB/RB recruit (Demond Washington) and Taikwon Page from Georgia Military Academy will see plenty of time in the defensive backfield early on. It does suck but its not the end all……AU played lots of young talent last season in the defensive backfield as well that should be much improved this season.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Um..how do you know Savage is out for the season again?? I haven’t seen it reported anywhere.

Some other AU guys are discussing it over at Tigerdroppings.

They are saying he’s had surgery already.
