QB Rollison cleared by NCAA Clearinghouse, starts classes next week
The speculation is over concerning highly touted QB Tyrik Rollison. Rollison has been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse and will start classes next week, according to AuburnSports.com. Rollison was a four-star recruit out of Sulpher Springs (TX) High School as well as the No. 2 ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country, but there were major questions about him qualifying academically for the 2009-2010 school year. Honestly, I didn't think he was going to get in. There were numerous reports about his coaches and even himself saying he would get into school, and obviously they were right, but I thought this was going to be a long, drawn out process where Rollison wouldn't here anything until early August and the news wouldn't be good. But he's cleared, he's in school and he will compete for the starting QB job this season. This is great news for the Auburn nation.

That's very good to hear.
It’ll bring another option to the coaching staff, and probably push the current quarterbacks on the roster to step their games up, but I doubt Rollison will see significant action this year. I think his playbook knowledge will be too far behind the other guys.

Good news
It’s great he got in. I hope he can keep his grades where they need to be and be able to commit the time needed to learn the offense. He’s got the physical part down pat let’s hope he can get the mental stuff down. I also don’t see him playing this year, but it will be good for him to start learning the offense and learning from the older guys.

That is great news
I would not be shocked if he is starting by midseason. If the other qb’s struggle to grasp the offense and move the ball, I see no reason why he wouldn’t play this year.

I hope that doesnt happen
Burning Kodi’s red shirt (Burning Kodi, Ha i crack myself up) still bothers me. I think it was a major factor in his inability to make good decisions on the filed.

I agree....
that its bad for a young QB to get “bad” experience and that its a factor for Kodi’s lacking in the decision making to this point…..but I think that with the right coaching and positive reinforcement that he can still be the QB we need…time will tell.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Ohio State, LSU, & Baylor all started athletic true freshmen at QB last year and each of them played pretty well. if he’s the best QB then it doesn’t matter, Auburn has to play him.

Agreed…No, I don’t like true freshmen QB starting because they need a year to learn the system and to mature before facing SEC defenses, but at the same time, if Tyrik Rollison is the best QB on the team this fall (which he very well could be) and gives you the best chance to win, then you have to let him be your starting QB. I don’t think Rollison will be the starter coming out of fall practice, but if Caudle and Burns aren’t getting the job done in the first 4 or 5 games of the season, I would expect to see Rollison take over as the starter. If he’s the best, play him. Simple as that.
The problem was not associated with Rollison....
it was with Burns. And the point of the conversation was getting “bad” experience which I don’t think anyone can debate that is what Burns recieved, And I wouldn’t want to put in Rollison unless it was only the QB play that was at fault……last year we didn’t lose soley because of who was at QB, it was a complete and utter meltdown that was team wide and started at the top with the coaching staff. I still think that, with the proper coaching, Burns can be the QB we all thought he would be when he first came to the plains. All that being said if Rollison can step into a good situation and he is truly the best option in that scenario…..more power to him, but I doubt it.

i agree 100%
playing Burns as a freshman def screwed him up. also 3 different offensive coordintors in 2 years didn’t help either.

Maybe he will have a Jason Campbell like transformation under Malzahn.....
it isn’t beyond possible. Also, I would put last years debaucle far beyond Nall Ball in the bad experience factor.

I just want to see the best player play, regardless of who it is. I would love to see Kodi or Neil come out with guns blazing, lighting teams up as they go, and allowing Tyrick to redshirt. But nothing they have done to this point indicates that they will.
I also think the coaches sold Tyrick on the idea of early playing time and was one of the reasons he commited.

Thank you Jesus. We needed that. A lot!
There’s hope for the future at the most important position on the team, at last.
It’s been a long series of dry holes at QB for AU, hope Rollison is all he appears to be.
I must say, it’s great to have a coaching staff at AU willing to do the heavy lifting on the recruiting trail … and one that understands — (and, it willing to go on record by stating it) — the importance of recruiting to the success of any big time college football program.
Refreshing, to say the least!
Really, Kodi has played QB in high school, and a couple years in college. So why can’t he throw a football? Seriously. I’ve seen kids in my neighborhood throw a spiral. They haven’t had any coaching at all. It comes naturally to them. Burns is a quarterback. He should be able to throw a decent ball.
Even so, after the season was over, what has he been doing all these months during the off season. I wish he was throwing a football through a tire or passing to his buddies. But by the look of A Day he was again not consistent.
The reason Chizik has not made a decision about QB yet is because no one has adequately performed to standard. Or they are waiting for Tyrik, or at least want to hold out the possibility of immediate playing time as a lure for him.
Kodi does have skills, however, which can be capitalized upon by Malzahn. But if we need consistent passing control and accuracy, we may have to consider the two-headed beast.
With less than perfect mechanics.....
the kids in your neighborhood can throw a perfect spiral and with lesser atheletes chasing him around in high school so could Kodi……but put in some great atheletes on defense that weigh in near 300 lbs and run a sub 5.0 40 and its a different story…..thats why mechanics are so important. Think of it like a golfer……plenty of club golfers can make the shots that the pros can make in their sunday morning dogfights but not many of them could do it in front of huge crowds, with T.V. cameras and lots of money on the line, just no comparison. Have faith in Malzahn to not only coach but to make the correct decision on whom to start.

Let's get real about the AU QB situation
Many years ago that great philosopher ‘Linus’ was heard lamenting to his friend Charlie Brown, “There is no heavier burden than a great potential!”
Linus seemed to know that potential is nice, that talent is great … but, all that can become worse than a negative if one’s promise never turns into something real … er, you know, never shows some tangible results.
There’s a time to stop talking about QB potential and to start talking about QB performance … and, that time is when you name your starting QB. Two different AU coaching staffs went through two different spring practices and neither staff was able to name a starting QB. That tell you something?
The AU coaching staff had 5 or 6 years to recruit and prepare a QB to replace Brandon Cox when Cox went down to injury or played out his career.
The problem we face at QB this year is the same problem we faced at QB this time last year … that is, The AU coaching staff simply did not recruit a QB that turned out to be capable of replacing Brandon Cox .
T. Rollison didn’t cause the problem at AU but he may have to play as a freshman. If he does it’s a direct result of the recruiting and coaching failures at AU the last 5 years.
That’s regrettable but that’s where the AU football program is right now.
We know, we know........
and your glass is always half empty isn’t it Eeyore. Just kidding…..but really all of the same things that people said about campbell are being said about Burns and its not hard to see where some coaching could turn his career around…..that being said my glass is half full and I’m gonna wait and see before I get all miffed about the previous 5 years recruiting…..of which we had two blue chip QBs that were both elite 11 (Burns and Caudle).
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Great News
That’s awesome and great news for the team. I found lots of sweet Auburn gear at http://www.thecollegeshack.com/category_s/187.htm.
